[Apocalypse] + [Rebirth] + [Hoarding Supplies] + [Surviving] + [Infinite Space] + [Dark Revenge & Non-Saintly]

The world enters an Ice Age, ushering in an icy apocalypse where 95% of humanity perishes! In his past life, Zhang Yi was killed by those he had kindly helped, due to his “benevolent” nature. Reborn a month before the ice apocalypse, Zhang Yi awakens a spatial ability and begins to hoard supplies frenetically! Running out of supplies? He empties the warehouse of a super-mall worth billions! Uncomfortable living conditions? He constructs a super-secure dwelling comparable to a post-apocalyptic fortress! As the apocalypse arrives, while others freeze like dogs and would abandon anything for a bite to eat, Zhang Yi lives even more comfortably than before the apocalypse.

Green Tea b**ch: “Zhang Yi, let me into your house, and I promise to be your girlfriend.”

Rich Second Generation: “Zhang Yi, I’m willing to trade all my wealth for a meal at your place!”

Beastly Neighbors: “Zhang Yi, you should share your supplies with us, don’t be so selfish!”

……

Watching these people who betrayed him in his past life, Zhang Yi lies comfortably in his safe house, living a carefree life as if in a paradise.

Zhang Yi: “Why should I care whether you live or die? I would rather feed my things to the dogs than give them to you!”

Just being betrayed in the past life doesn't mean everyone in the apocalypse is bad. It seem more like to me that the protagonist was betrayed is just a reason the author use to write him stocking up billions of supply while just ignore everyone else.

No! Don't tell me about things like: "I just do that to survive" or "I tried to warn people about the incoming apocalypse but no one believe me.".

WELL YEAH! That's just selfish. Not just the protagonist only tried the bare minimum to convince people about... more>> the coming of apocalypse, the protagonist also bought all the supplies that could save thousands of people (Man, woman, old people and kids) for yourself. While people have to suffer, have to risk their life to find supplies, the protagonist stay inside eating generously alone. Yeah! If that's not selfish then I don't know what is selfish <<less

One of the worst protagonist i've ever read about. So full of malice and evil intent that his reasons for revenge was not enough to explain his behavior

be warned: his entertainment during apocalypse is to make others hate and envy him then kill them (or let them die) the worst way possible. Or to make his neighbors kill each others. In the early stages, he often think that helping his neighbors was useless because they would die soon anyway. A true psychopath.

i stopped reading when

he burned to death a shrew grandmother after he made sure she turned crazy by making her think she was the cause of her grandson's death

edit: adding here that my problem is not the death of the woman as she tried kill the protagonist but the way MC decided to kill her. He fu*cking burned her to death. This was not justice but simply torture to fulfill MC's sadistic revenge

in a hindsight, I should have dropout this story before that. At least I would not feel as bad a now for reading it.

It is just that the author wrote well enough and I has a s*upid hope that the protagonist would get less evil... after figuring out that revenge was pointless.

now, I do not think anymore; He is unredeemable <<less

Although this novel removes many tropes common (and infuriating) in the apocalypse genre, I personally dislike the protagonist himself.

Don't get me wrong, his motivations and personality are justified (barely) by his betrayal from those he thought he could trust, but the way he goes about it is so unlikeable.

even on the first few days, when people haven't yet succumbed to temptation and whatnot, his gloating makes me uncomfortable and is extremely hateful, causing the neighbours to despise him. Even when he himself caused it, he basically just goes 'omg human nature is so cruel I'm so glad I never let anyone in cause they'd all take everything *whiny baby noises*' like bro. In the later day (s), he loves giving people false hopes and just dropping them into the abyss below seconds later. Since we haven't really been along with him on the previous life for long enough, his revenge just seems so... unnecessarily extra.

He doesn't make an effort to save people who are 'good', like Uncle Yi, and just in general acts like a cynical beta cuck. His obsession with women even though 'oh, women only exist to distract me and are only good for s*x cause there's no other reason for me to let them in and even if I do they'll just betray me wuwuwuwu' makes me recoil in disgust. I may have oversimplified him a bit. He makes the most out of people, by exploiting their basic human needs and bragging about it.

Although he has a lot of supplies, he is extremely wasteful and arrogant, thinking that nothing can hurt him when he's inside his reinforced apartment made of steel (which I honestly don't understand how it could've possibly passed building regulations considering that he is part of an apartment complex), constantly throwing things that he 'doesn't need' away. e.g. 'Ruined food' (which he just cooked wrong cause he livestreamed it and was too focused on making his neighbours jealous)

Speaking of the apartment renovations, having a bulletproof glass wall just to look out at your suffering neighbours, and making them watch you enjoy the inside, is plain s*upid in my opinion. No matter how strong it is, the fact remains that IT IS GLASS. 'ehehe they can't break in cause I have super duper strong glass ehe' while watching them bang on it and begging for just a morsel. A single hairpin? That glass is GONE.

He is portrayed as 'ruthless' and 'cold hearted', which he is, but the sheer laser focus he has on making his 'betrayers' unhappy is ruining my enjoyment of what could've been a relatively simple survival game novel. Everyone in the apartment complex has a combined IQ of 5, with Zhou KeEr having 3, which makes even the revenge seem unsatisfying, since beating idiots in IQ says more about the person doing the beating.

He could just... I don't know... leave them to die on their own? Watching them beg and sob for help is more satisfying imo, instead of needlessly drawing aggro and wasting resources.

TLDR: love the concept, hate the execution. if you like a heartless MC with no empathy, go ahead. <<less

Ok, I have two reviews

first, the one I wrote at C76:

The concept seem quite petty, but after reading... I have to admit the novel is pretty engaging. The story is basically about seeing your scummy neighbors suffer while you enjoy a cozy life inside your super secure apartment. Of course from time to time the MC has to pepper his neighbors with arrows, bullets or fire to show them who is boss and keep them out of his property, but that's what make it interesting, right?

Overall while the novel is... more>> not outstanding, it is quite good.

My review at C121 is a little different:

The MC has become ridiculously cruel to the point of being sadistic.

Spoiler

Preventing an old woman from committing su*cide only to mentally torture her, and then burn her alive was totally pointless

Not to mention that he is using the female doctor as a s*x doll to relieve his desires whenever he wants, only to confine her in the room when she is not needed; it feels so sexist and unfair considering the doctor is treating him sincerely.

[collapse]

At this point, it is becoming more and more painful to continue reading <<less

Plot we all know, survival by having a space system, a lot of money you will never repay and lot of supplies.

One thing I like is that unlike other novels, this one doesn't spend too much time on the pre-apocalypse stuff.

Personally that's good because I get bored when novels about apocalypse take 30+ chapters to arrive at said apocalypse. So yeah.

Good stuff if you're into this genre.

The MC is the worst misogynistic and sadistic individual I know. All his actions stem from making others envy his comfy life in apocalypse and while there's not much wrong with it but his actions are infuriating and there's no justification for his actions.

The MC pretends he has a moral bottom line but he's no better than a mu*derer

He literally burned people to death. Shot them with tetan*s infected arrows and electrocuted them to death. The worst was when he forced burning hot water on to his enemies to turn them to ice cubes and then he proceeded to disrespect their dead corpse by hammering them to death and making a video out of it.

[collapse]

What's more infuriating is how MC perceives women. He only see them as objects to satisfy their lust and that's all they are good for. As a woman myself, it made me somewhat uncomfortable about it. I felt conflicted but I kept reading cause the author wrote well so I had this hope somewhere that MC can change but he didn't.

Spoiler

"Cook more, you have plenty of time to practice"

"A good women should wait for her man at home"

"You're unlike those s*upid women who asks lots of questions"

The MC even asked his teammate that he can find a women with much better condition than a single mom raising her baby. He even asked why would his teammate help raise a random baby. He called that single mother scheming but all I could see was a desperate women eager for her and her 8 month old baby's survival.

[collapse]

In short although the author wrote good, but the MC personality made it unbearable for me to have any good feelings.

Yes he was betrayed in his previous life, but so what? Other's had the same experience.

In my opinion what MC needs is to be locked up in jail and a therapist to provide him therapy.

I never hated a MC as much as now. Even villains are better than MC. <<less

I previously wrote a long review however it seems to have never posted. The MC is a complete A-hole. He's a cruel, misogynistic, back-stabbimg b*stard and you'll hate him for the first quarter of the book. After a while, you come to understand why he's like that and you can see that he cares for his people. However, there are a few chapters which were hard to stomach. There is a lot of racism when the Japanese aka Neon show up. There is also blatant racism and disgust shown by... more>> the MC and other characters about a mixed race child. The mother is Chinese and the father is black and he refuses to save them just for that reason alone because he's so disgusted about her breeding with a black guy. The anti-neon stuff happens a few times, the anti-black thing is a couple of paragraphs in the chapter. It almost made me stop reading it because the vitriol was so hateful. It makes me wonder if all Chinese think like that.

The concept of the book, the growth of the MC and the people around him kept me going. Sometimes you just want to see how things end up. If the author can keep the hate out of the book, or even drop those chapters entirely, it would make for a much better read. The problem with all web novels is as always, the lack of a good editor and the need to pump out X number of words per chapter. That of course leads to excessive wordiness and the book going off tangent.

Apparently the original review I wrote ended up getting posted on the wrong book. Here's my first review

I started off with the Manhua and really enjoyed it so I moved on to the novel. As everyone says, the MC is a real a-hole in the beginning to the point that you didn't really like him. However, he has every right to be.
Spoiler

He's been betrayed, killed and chopped up & eaten alive by his so called friends and his girlfriend whom he loved

[collapse]
. However later on as he becomes more powerful and more comfortable with those he has chosen to keep around him, he obviously warms up and begins to find love for his new found family in his heart. He's willing to do anything to protect them but doesn't care about anyone else except those he has deemed family. He'll set up, leave behind, betray and kill anyone who interferes with his life. It's a really great premise and while the MC is a little OP, his power is based on his obsession with staying alive. So he developed the absolute defense and the ability to store everything he needs so he'll never go without food or the comforts of life. Great book. <<less
