Drama Queen Salty Fish Turned Streamer (Receiving End) & Icy Indulgent Top A-list Actor (Dominant End)

Back in the day, when Si Meng aimed for stardom in the entertainment industry, her arch-nemesis Lin Hanyue was just an unknown newcomer. But somehow, Si Meng suddenly fell from grace and disappeared from the spotlight. Four years later, Si Meng returned to her home country burdened with debt and plummeted to the status of a minor 18th-tier streamer. Meanwhile, Lin Hanyue had transformed into a top A-list actor. Si Meng clenched her teeth and signed a dominant contract to become the actor’s personal assistant, catapulting them to the top of trending topics and amassing a legion of fans.

Si Meng: Your fans are shipping us in strange CPs again; hurry and clarify!

Lin Hanyue (raising an eyebrow): Alright, remember your role; I’m just your employer.

Official Lin Hanyue: @Si Meng, since we’ve been discovered, let’s make it official. [Marriage Certificate] jpg

Official Si Meng: ???

Si Meng: Haters are claiming my private life is a mess; shall we get a divorce?

Lin Hanyue: Alright, let’s discuss the penalty clause.

Official Lin Hanyue: @Si Meng, for four years, you kept yourself pure for my sake. I apologize.

Official Si Meng: !!!

When everyone looked down on Si Meng as a trophy wife, she attracted millions of wealthy suitors with her exceptional culinary skills. While ordinary fans thought Si Meng wasn’t worthy of their A-list actor, she had already become the top live streamer, a coveted favorite for various directors.

This novel is all over the place. The MC, Si Meng, is a Mary Sue but in an insane way. She's a celebrity, but she's also a nutritionist. She was a slacker in High School then she worked hard and got into a great college where she had high grades... but she was called an empty vase and useless when in college? She also helped the FL study for difficult physics exams... somehow? Despite being told that our MC is a nutritionist we find out she has a master's in... more>> finance... but when she was in college she started her degree work in the sciences and then transferred into the arts to chase the FL. She can hack computers and speculate accurately on stock. Her cooking heals ED, cures anorexia, and makes people cry about missing their family's home cooking. She's smart until she needs to be put in a precarious situation so the FL can rescue her.

The MC is trying to pay back a debt from breaking her contract and fleeing the country before, but... She might be really rich. Or her family might be. Or they both might be. The reason she can't use her money from overseas to pay back the debt is because it would tip off her parents. Somehow? This gets resolved after her brother contacts her and tells her he... hid all of her money in random places, including a dirty sock stuffed somewhere... I'm not even making this up. She makes millions working as the FL's assistant, live streaming, on stocks, and from her appearance on the first reality TV show, but the debt isn't really mentioned later.

Also... it's mentioned that she is trying to avoid her parents but she does streaming, shows up on a reality TV show, and she gains massive amounts of popularity. Despite this, somehow, her brother is the only one that finds out she's back in the country.

The FL is apparently the next in line as the CEO of a huge conglomerate... that might also have ties to the Mafia? It's not really clear and it's only ever mentioned when dealing with one cartoonishly s*upid antagonist.

Then there's the story itself, which bounces from our MC working as the FL's live in chef, to being on a reality TV show, back to being the FL's chef, and then to a new reality TV show. Characters are introduced so quick I have no idea who anyone is except for the MC and the FL anymore.

There's plot points that are introduced but the resolution of them is nowhere in sight. There's no progress made on anything that was made to seem important near the beginning of the story and I'm beginning to think the author is just going to have a single chapter devoted to resolving everything at breakneck speed.

It's so weird it's funny and I can't figure out if the writer is trying to be ridiculous and funny, or if they really do want to write a coherent story. Sometimes there's really serious topics brought up, but then the story moves on so quickly I have to wonder if they really even mattered. I'm glad the author didn't choose to try to talk about anything truly serious and only had some mild trauma's for the MC.

Just... If you're going to read this go in with an open mind and don't expect anything of substance. It's so weird. Even the romance happens at breakneck speed.

I honestly can't give this a high rating despite how much I enjoy its eccentricities. Maybe this is a brand new author stretching their legs and trying to find themself. If so, props. I hope they keep trying. Just... don't expect the next To Kill a Mockingbird here. <<less

TLDR: The story is a mess of vaguely connected scenes. The romance is superficially cute if that’s all you’re looking for. Don’t expect anything to be followed up on or for any scene to have a lasting impact. Don’t get attached to characters because they’ll only ever show up for one story arc except for the MC and FL.

This novel seems incomplete tbh, it’s more like a compilation of vaguely connected scenes than anything. There are a lot of plot points that start and then never finish, especially in regards... more>> to their past. A lot of things need to be expounded on. I also have gripes about the celebrity plot. The story started out quite interesting with the introduction of the MC’s huge debt that we’re all expecting to have come from somewhere and have huge ramifications on the story but no! Actually, it’s never mentioned. Once or twice maybe but it didn’t actually have any significance whatsoever. And that kind of behaviour happens to pretty much everything you’d expect to be mentioned more or become a significant plot point. The celebrity plot seems like something the author put in there to introduce more spice to the story once they get bored with playing around with the MC’s apparent magical nutritionist skills.

I also hate how the author just introduces characters but never bothers to properly introduce them or follow up to their story; They show up, we don’t know anything about them and some of them you’d expect would get at least more mention because they seem important but they just disappear without a trace or mention after a scene they’re in. The MC and FL are also especially frustrating as characters because even they, as characters, are confusing as hell. Their past is only ever vaguely alluded to and if you asked me if any of them have had any character development I could not pinpoint a time where I could say this was the turning point for how they became this way. They just do.

The romance is confusing because it’s introduced as this conflicting relationship that started in the past and is preventing the MC from repairing that relationship with the FL now but at one point the FL saves the MC and their relationship is just inexplicably healed forever. There’s no mention of them actually smoothing things out from before at all and their relationship sails smoothly despite what you were brought to think was some drama filled past between them. There’s some background of what happened in the past but it’s in an extra chapter and the “main” explanation seemed like such an afterthought of a scene I was baffled reading it. It REALLY should have been it’s own arc. <<less

I want to give this more than 3 stars, but I can't do so in good faith. This is less a good story and more an outline of a good story; if you took this and fleshed out all the events and background properly it would be about 150 chapters long and would easily be a 4-4.5 star story. As it stands, it's got a good plot, but the pacing, scene-building, and character development is rushed and not very expressive. It's still worth the read just for the story it's... more>> trying to tell, even if the writing isn't particularly developed. <<less
