The great paladin. The noble knight. The champion of the goddess. Michael had even defeated the Demon King, but this was not the end, only the beginning.

— “The demon is eternal and immortal, so this is your defeat, knight of illusion.”

For the goddess.

“If I can’t kill the devil, I’ll become a devil myself.”

He threw himself into the gate of the demon realm.

[You have awakened as a player.]

Then, a voice from the goddess reached Michael.

“Waaah!” (A baby crying!)

Reborn as the youngest son of Korea’s top 10 guild, ‘Holy Light,’ he was given another chance.

“Oh, goddess.” “Maybe… the name ‘Yohan’ was a mistake after all?”

A bit average in writing quality but very unique in premise - the MC was a paladin for a "goddess" in a fantasy world fighting against invading demons. Reincarnating in Korea after his death, he hears the voice of the "goddess" once again... which turns out to be the system that Hunters have. From his previous life, he has insight into the true nature of the invasion of Earth and how to truly stop it. With this knowledge, he starts his own cult/raises a fighting force in order to annihilate... more>> the enemies of the "goddess" he serves and spread her teachings (and inadvertently creates a religion based around himself, as his followers don't actually believe in the goddess but instead become fanatical over him).

Him being a "villain" has less to do with him acting like a bad guy and more with him acting "against the teachings of his goddess", aka killing people and using demonic-like abilities, in order to annihilate the demons which are his "goddess'" sworn enemies and ultimately fulfill what he believes is her will. So he's not committing crimes/slandered by the media because he's going up against corruption/transmigrated into a villainous character or something. His sense of "villainy" is all based on his own idea of what he thinks is good vs. evil. The MC's misguided fanaticism and how it drives his thoughts, actions, and gives the plot a unique flavor. And it's NOT played for comedy, which I think is important to note.

The MC has a completely serious personality. On top of this, his sense of morality is both alien to Earth while also mostly lining up with what we might consider as being a "good guy". He somehow follows a "traditional righteous hero" route while also being really weird about it; again, his moral compass and religious doctrine is determined entirely by what he thinks is a goddess but is actually his own self and his misunderstandings about the system. While righteous and capable of acting like a normal person, he's also completely unhinged in a way that's (usually) subtle. This + the fact that this isn't played for comedy makes both the MC and the story overall very different from most other Awakener/Hero/Action/"Shounen" kinds of series.

4/5 for being a solid story. The plot isn't especially complicated and, if it weren't for the nature of its interesting and unique protagonist, could even be described as "typical" or "cliche". But cliche doesn't mean bad, and it does have that protag. So it's a good Hunter/Awakener/Gate/Etc. for those who like them. <<less

Michael was the one who stopped the various calamities around the continent, praised as "the great holy knight" by the people. However by the time he managed to stop the final calamity, he saw that nothing he tried to protect was left. In rage he attempt to enter the demon realm while willing to become a "demon" in order to punish the goddess enemies as atonement. As a result he find himself reincarnated in a new world (earth). The first thing he hear is the goddess, or the "system" as... more>> people here call her, making him believe he made the right choice. He resolved himself in order to not make the same mistake again. While many things have changed, 2 things remained the same in both life - "his faith in the "goddess" and his hate for her enemies. A story about an overpowered religious lunatic reincarnating in Korea and trying to adapt to his new life while being influenced by his previous one. <<less

Although "Takes itself too seriously" is too often used to say something negative about a novel, here I'll use it as praise.

Very strong start of a familiar story. No jokes, nothing light-hearted, just a man on a mission to exterminate demons.

Which is pretty cool.

... more>> However, with time this novel takes a nosedive - it simply gets dull. What's worse, very typical in Korean and Chinese fiction, "show-off scenes" flood everything. Inconsequential characters are excessively bad and incompetent just to demonstrate how MC is cool and good.

At the same time not much is going on, so even forcing myself to continue couldn't bring me to read any further.

Can't even say I'm disappointed because there wasn't anything special to begin with. <<less

I gave it 4, not because it's great... but because it has no glaring weaknesses. The author has covered all their bases. The plot works, the characters are interesting, and the enemy is vast. I will admit the story isn't for everyone, and it's kinda brief in what it's covering, but it's competent. It feels like a book/story instead of a genre piece.

MC was a holy paladin in another world. There are major hints throughout the story that he inadvertantly created the faith/religion that empowers him. He fights and defeats... more>> the demon hordes, but they end up destroying his world. He enters a portal to go to hell and fight till his end, and either the goddess is real or something else happens. His soul gets taken to an Earth with gates and hunters. His major goals seem to be to defeat the demons, and protect his new family. There are several moments throughout the plot that he admits that he will be the bogeyman, his path is doom to the demons, not a hero to humans.

*so some of the bog standard dark Korean nonsense is starting to come out? I know the enemies are demons and devils, so certain plot points make sense. The military commander of Russia calling for help and then deciding to kill the MC and his friends cause they are more powerful than all of Russia is just s*upid. I've seen plot points like this in a bunch of dark Korean stories, and its just tiring. <<less
