Tonight, once again, he yearned for her purification.

It had been an unhappy life.

Despite possessing the power of purification, Irene was deemed the lowest rank, never having received anyone’s love or acceptance in her short life. Even in her final moments, she died alone and lonely, yet strangely, she found herself back in the past.

And not just any past but right before meeting her husband, Michael, the man she had ruined.

‘This is the first mistake I must correct in this life. That is…not getting involved with Michael.’

*

However, Michael seems peculiar.

“I… I need you. Please purify me.”

He asked for purification first.
A paladin, this holy man, comes to me every night.

“Irene. My pair. My wife. Tonight, I want to be cleansed by you. Long and slow.”

You were definitely a paladin in a previous life who wouldn’t even lay a finger on me, right?

Sigh. Don't jump the gun like others. The main plotline seems well structured, promising decent pacing and development. The premise is intriguing and offers more thought and depth than the usual stuff in this genre. The characters seem to have actual personality, you DO GET MULTIPLE VIEWPOINTS (though not much), the writing feels enjoyable and occasionally humorous, and the translator is doing very well. I'd genuinely be excited to read this even with the spice cut out (and I LOVE spice).

The tension, chemistry, and descriptions during heated scenes between the... more>> FL and ML already make my heart race. Granted, other than the preview chapter at the beginning, they haven't gone far... but I never thought caressing hands could be that hot. If going all the way is written that well, it's going to be wild.

Though the novel hasn't gotten very far yet, each chapter gets me further invested in the story. I fully expect to be following the novel to the end. And edit to warn: chapters are very short, so combined with the almost-overly-steady pace, it feels like it's going to take a long time to be complete.

If considering trying it- I would absolutely recommend reading this.

Edit: translator plz come back, I miss you bb Edit edit: new translator is filling in and rocking it... I appreciate you <3

10 months later edit: Love ittt <<less

This story is really good~ Whoever is saying it's bad is probably not the biggest fan of stories with a lighter flow and less complex. But there is a catch, I think the site crashed, or unfortunately the translation was found in the eyes of the translator or editor, who probably took down the page. Which was very sad since it was at the most exciting part and I arrived a little late and couldn't read chapter 131 (╥﹏╥).

If by any chance this novel is continued on another site, I... more>> would like to be notified, thank you.

Edit: The story was continued (•◡•) /, I don't know if by the same translator, but thank you very much for not giving up and for the effort, I will continue following. <<less

At this stage, despite the plot and pacing being unusually coherent and well thought out, the story suffers from terribly bland writing.

The FL Irene is by design an insecure and reticent person, and the ML Micheal is almost never present, and when he is he interacts very little with Irene. Since the novel is written entirely from her perspective, by extension the reader has no familiarity to the character.

Quite frankly, it's impossible to build any attachment. The most vivid character so far is the childhood friend cannon fodder.

In conclusion, good... more>> idea with bad execution. Hopefully something improves in the following chapters. <<less

The story is sold to us as a fantasy adventure with exciting smut, but the reality is that it is a slice of life with very vague references to fantasy and political intrigue (and you perceive this fantasy more from the continuous explanations that the characters give to each other than from the events along the narration; for example, there are dungeons full of monsters and treasures, but since we follow the female protagonist's PoV we NEVER go in there, we only hear about it from others, and the most... more>> interesting thing we see are the tea times with the other purifiers and the magical objects put up for auction, which says it all), and even like SoL it is slow.

It is such a slow story that in comparison the tar flows away like rainwater, there are entire chapters where absolutely nothing happens, and even the few times in which something does happen it is all so bland and diluted that you forget about what should happen while you are reading it (the fact that everything requires at least three chapters to develop and therefore takes you a month to get a general idea does not help).

For those who are here for the smut... I'll just tell you that we are at chapter 100 and the hottest thing the two protagonists have done is hold hands and kiss. In a very sexy way, that's true, but let's say that it doesn't really fit into what the smut genre (i.e. hardcore s*x that takes up 3/4 of the entire narrative) usually sells.

I'm sorry to have to give a bad rating because the translator is doing an excellent job anyway, her text is linear and it's always easy to understand who is saying what; unfortunately it's the underlying material that leaves a lot to be desired. <<less

Quite an empty story.

Although it promises fantasy and dungeons, it honestly doesn't deliver. The premise is more like a game where dungeons appear and to eradicate the danger of monsters getting outside knights are sent to clear them, which also brings a lot of benefits. But author mostly said about it rather than showed it in practice. Main leads have ZERO CHEMISTRY. Even the story tries to make you believe that Irene fell for Michael despite everything, but considering what she said about men in this universe he was good... more>> in comparison because e's the only one who never oggled her like a brute. Irene, the FMC is a reborn girl who died once and now doesn't give a sh*t about things of the past, but she also wants to get out of the situation quickly with her knowledge of dungeon rewards she thought it's going to be a quick deal, being painfully oblivious that Michael, MMC, is also reborn and acts weirdly, but also obviously does things to make her stay (this corny dog, c=h). Everything about dungeons is controlled by Alliance of Kindgoms (how and why, no answer). Meanwhile the knights and purifiers (always makes me think of a home appliance) are graded. FMC was the lowest grade, deemed worthless. But the higher grade are treated as treasures, author mentions several times how powerful they are, did not work for me, because author did not show it. I see no stakes, no aim to this story, because even if that one villainous role in the face of Princess is powerful for some time, didn't author say they have limit to years they can purify? So far the only direct idea is how FMC tries to create a circle of people to replicate that of the Princess', honestly she could have just skipped it, since mostly she cared for her newly acquired friends and not a bunch of strangers that are shitty fence-sitters, everyone flies to the Princess' circle who misled Irene in previous life to believe Michael entered a dungeon and this is where she died (and the silly and oblivious FMC of course can't put two and two together). I also find it weird as if the crowd that condemned her worthless and this crowd of people whom she wants to save from unnecessary harm are two different crowds, she has a spirit of a Holy mary inside her suddenly. But to me this is empty and just forced by author, because this Princess can't monopolize dungeons and she also rips off others to feed her own greed just because she's Grade 1. Maybe others are not as powerful, but I would expect others to form cliques too. Princess Cecilia created her circle as exclusive and high class etc. but she has several places where she demands payments, also humiliates others who are of a lower rank, but I don't see if it's worth it. I can see it being helpful to those who want to enter her circle of nobles, but for those who go to dungeons for money (as it happened when Irene offered to go to advanced one those who did not appear at her gathering swarmed like flies when they received the news of this raid) Princess fees are an overkill, according to author. It's commendable that Irene wants to break this vicious cycle, but honestly the story makes you feel like if she hasn't arrived they'd all do the same old stuff. Which is hardly believable. Not to mention these dungeons are dangerous, although you are respectable among peers, but don't forget that anyone can start morally kidnap this Princess (since she built her "kind" image anyway... though what idiot still believes she is kind when she humiliates people). Hardly believable dull plot I couldn't care about. The romance is also dull, she loves him because he's not like other guys and he is just lusting after her tbh, I couldn't feel a connection. In this life Michael just goes crazy for her, but basically it doesn't read as love.

The chapters are split, but it doesn't matter I'd still say the story is empty and dull, has no thrill to it and it drags. Author tells you instead of showing her world. Irene is boring, she led a tough life in her previous one, but mostly because her character felt weak. I still question why she was paired with Michael but never explained that she needs money and for what purpose, wasn't he supposed to help people in need. Instead she felt like she doesn't want to burden anyone and decided that hardships are her thing. It was also a normal thing to send money home as mentioned by other side characters, so I couldn't get her motivation for staying silent.

Ah, whatever, I've already rattled enuogh. I'm so annoyed at it that I want to shave more stars off my rating. <<less

Pretty good, though the middle section drags.

FL acts somewhat sensibly, ML is obviously different from past life and she notices it, but doesn't feel comfortable trusting him. She does change her own behaviour and gains a better position mostly by herself, but there is also some plot convenience making her stronger.

The middle section where it's about fortress politics and the FL/ML don't meet much is too long, and it drags out the reveal too much of why ML has changed even though it's pretty obvious after like 20 chapters.

The translation... more>> is good and it's a quick read. The post-reveal chapters are satisfying though not super detailed, but at 201 we're still waiting for the big catharsis moments. I also could have used just a little more regret.

Edit: at 256 now, and actually the regret arc is in full swing and it's pretty good.
Spoiler

there are a couple flashback arcs showing the hell that Michael went through after Irene died the frit time, and it's pretty satisfying. I'm not sure if Irene in this timeline will find out much about it but considering how rarely we get to see the aftermath, and see ML realizing how all his actions hurt Irene and caused her to be looked down on andnhating himself - I like this story just for that.

This was a massive "meh" for me. The characters, the plot, the world-building, the writing style - all extremely bland. And so slow-paced I feel I could've just read every fifth chapter or so at random and not missed much. At one point I literally fell asleep reading it (this novel = certified laptop fire hazard!) ; thereafter I decided I'd rather go read almost any other book instead - even an actively bad one would be more interesting due to mock-worthiness.

I was already well over 100 (translator-numbered, I suspect... more>> they're split) chapters deep, so I skimmed ahead a bit to get ML's POV of their shared history. That turned out to be a huge disappointment...

Spoiler

In their first life, he just barely registered MC's existence as non-repulsive (not like all the other girls!!! i.e. not approaching him transparently greedy for his power/body), right up until she held his hand for a moment of ~magical~ healing, and thus awakened his previously dormant Inner Horndog (and much fapping ensued).

Aaand... that's it, basically. He decided to commit to her due to an onslaught of horniness that she unwittingly caused not through any particular personal attribute, but merely by being in the right place at the right time. Then she inconsiderately went and died before he got round to doing anything beyond avoiding her due to awkwardness about his perpetual boner. And for this he went nuts, put himself through several lifetimes' worth of torture, and became some sort of demon (I dunno, either it hadn't been fully explained at the point I read to, or I zoned out because I no longer cared) in order to be with her again.

I sat there going "... Really???", as Peggy Lee started singing "Is that all there is?" on the jukebox in my mind. Look, I acknowledge that most relationships start with a moment of initial attraction that's in itself trivial; this part is not unreasonable. But if you want to turn that into some sort of Epic Romance - the sort that's worth enduring untold years of suffering, and abandoning your whole life philosophy and morality for - then that first moment has to be followed up by actual meaningful interaction (of which there has been none in this story). Trying to leap straight into the "Hopelessly Devoted To You" stage of things without any build up is just bad, lazy writing. Wouldn't surprise me if there is some sort of "they were in love in a previous incarnation!" revelation later on to handwave their complete lack of rapport in this lifetime (no matter how often it's relived).

[collapse]

I'd only recommend this if you're very keen on either 1) the set-up of semi-forced intimacy between knights and purifiers (ESPers and guides, by any other word) - everything technically consensual but based on practical need rather than want; and/or 2) the fantasy of corrupting a pure holy man. Even then, the explicit scenes are slow to arrive and as bland as everything else in this novel, so look elsewhere if you want something meatier. <<less

Although this novel is not a masterpiece, I enjoy both the fl, ML and the side characters. It's one of those novels which are predictable but not always, so you get suprises. The setting gets fleshed out as you go. And I read more chapters on novel toons and I really like the story. It's simple in the beginning but it gets more interesting as you go on and like I said, not the greatest novel ever but still an enjoyable read. It's one of my comfort novels.

Fl: she's not... more>> a genius or the most cunning but she isn't s*upid. She's smart enough and she uses the knowledge she does have from her previous life to her advantage and tries to plan ahead. Although things don't always go her way, and that keeps you on your toes about how she'll approach the unexpected. She's a fun protagonist to follow.

Ml: At first because the story is from the fl's perspective, you get a sense of mystery and intrigue from the ml. But once you get his side of the story you can see that he's the most devoted guy.

Spoiler

In the past life, the ML actually realised his love for the FL really late, that's due to him being inexperienced in love and no body else was there to guide him, in fact everyone discouraged his feelings.

[collapse]

I really like his side of the story. He's more fleshed out than alot of novels I've read so that's a plus.

The main villain: though she's not very active in the beginning she becomes an important obstacle later on. She's obsessive and prideful.
Spoiler

she messed up alot of things in the past life and tries to do so in the new timeline as well.

[collapse]

Side characters: they're obviously not 3 dimensional and more one note as you'd expect from these type of stories, but I'm surprised that they play actual roles here and aren't just there to fill space. Some of them have more depth than others. The interactions that the fl's friends have with the FL are fun and cute.

If you want to have a fun and relaxing read with enough action and things going on to keep you hooked, then I'd say give this one a try. The dynamic between the FL and ML isn't really toxic and certainly not abusive as in many other novels with this type of premise. The most unhealthy thing about their relationship are obviously the misunderstandings which they solve as the story goes on. <<less

So usually I would rate something that has at least 50 chapters or something but this is one of them cases

Now I don't normally go for these kinds of novels but hey you gotta have a broad taste if you want to be a good food critic I'm I right

Anyhow it was a pretty solid read all things considered it's romance is pretty good since the dynamic between the fML and ML is cute ... more>>
Spoiler

it's pretty obi that they both like each other in that new timeline but it's really in the air for if he too got sent back none the less it makes for moments where he wants to spoil her but she gets embarrassed

[collapse]

As for the plot it's ur average regression novel "oh I've been regressed so I'm going to be make sure I can leave as quickly as possible" then literally after the first chapter "ahhh I can't leave and do my own thing cause of [______]" so yea nothing new.

As for your cast it's pretty limited and almost everyone expect Michael & Irene are a bunch of dicks in order to hype up both of them and the setting is pretty bland cuz we legit get exposition dumbs every now n then bout the world. Not that it matters tho since it's mostly about the romance between the two.

Pretty great read for the romance between both of them but everything else needs a bit more work ngl so ima give it a 3! <<less
