Man I really liked this to begin with bc the MC is really my taste: unintentional salted fish who is capable and efficient and calm.

But ultimately a lot of entertainment romance novels suffer from the natural cliche pitfalls of it's genre in Chinese novels:

    • Netizens (it's not over done tbh but it is there enough) who are more wholesome than other but yea they're there. I was willing to forgive it tbh
    • Leads who are inseparable and always end up working the same show or job "somehow" by the will of the author, but it's boring to read and b. Honestly you need to have situations and friends in your life independent of your partner/interest bc it only helps a relationship thrive and also, for a book, it also imo makes it more interesting to read
    • Also on that note basically why I dnfed was when

      the ML intentionally went up to the MC during the variety show while they were filming, knowing the show can't use these shots, knowing the show wanted to avoid him for privacy sake, and the ML barely talked to his covariety partner whenever he talked to the MC.

The MC doesn't care because he's a salted fish, but when a romance is just a lack of consideration for other people and they're always together. I'm just like get me my wine, I'm done.

If you want to read this, I guess don't take it too seriously like I am I guess. It's really not that bad. Better than other cliche entertainment novels by a slight margin, but again I don't settle so no thank you from me. You could probably like this.

I mtled this novel but also read it in raws.

About the story

The story is about MC who has a time reversal back to when he was in his twenties at a turning point in his life where he makes the decision to act differently. He gives up the fight for his father's inheritance and decides to ponder pursuing finding love as a goal in life. The author does pretty decent world building in this novel. However rather than slice of life, I would almost call it slice of business. While... more>> the MC wants to avoid working, he's still caught up in intrigue and business obstacles from the companies he invests in. The author tends to jump from MC to side characters, developing all sorts of random encounters that push the plot further but also dilute the books attention away from the MC to all sorts of side business stories which frankly were more interesting than the MC and ML. The majority of the novel flits from MC and ML to side characters and social media posts without ever seeming to really focus. I found over half the novel to be dry and emotionless and I'll explain why below.

About the MC

The MC has a lot of mental health issues that stem from having pushed himself incredibly hard in his past life to win the inheritance fight against his other brothers and second uncle. As a result of a decade of living like this, he's learned to push down his emotions and has high walls that don't allow him to trust or be close to people. He also suffers from anxiety and insomnia as well as some obsessive compulsive behaviours. I have also had a period of time in my life in which I had severely pressed my emotions down and controlled them with an iron fist and I know what the author is trying to convey, but they were not really able to capture the internal thoughts well. Rather, the author made the MC feel like a robot for a big chunk of the novel. The author really was not able to show a gradual letting go of this tight control over emotions until much later in the novel when there was finally some growth and progress but still very understated almost to the end of the novel. I don't think I was a fun person to be around when I was in that almost emotionally numb state and likewise MC was not very engaging as a character because his emotions were not described aside from very little here and there. I found myself more interested in the business part of the story than the emotional part. I would describe the MC as someone who has had to restrain his emotions for a long time since his mother passed away and he's been self reliant for so long and wary of others that he's lost the ability to have close relationships with people be it friendship or romance. This novel is his journey to open up to the world again and to live his life anew.

About the ML

The ML is someone with maxed out EQ who uses everything he can to slowly draw MC out of his shell. I really admire ML's persistence and gentleness to the MC. He's really incredibly patient, always willing to slowly help lead MC into experiencing more of the world around him. The MC is super lucky that someone is patient and loving enough to help him overcome his mental health hurdles. The ML also loves to show to the public in little ways how much he loves the MC. Those moments while a little childish are also really sweet.

About the side characters

Why oh why did the author write so many one shot side characters. I didn't need to know some random blogger's small back story to see them interact nicely with MC and ML. There's a lot of time wasted on side characters that for some reason get a little back story only to show up for one scene. It's really a bit pointless. Also ML's assistant always bemoans the ML's online social media msgs, constantly afraid that ML will come out of the closet and make a big scandal. The first time reading it okay but reading chapters and chapters of his incessant complaints is way too much. The author should have cut 90% of his complaints from the novel and we would have a lot less chapters. It was just annoying to read. If the author had put more effort into fleshing out the MC and focusing on his personal growth rather than random encounters, that would have probably made the novel much more rich.

About the extras

There are 37 extras and the last 2 arcs of the extras are super worth reading. Why I'm mentioning them is because the author finally figured out how to write an emotionally numb character in the second last arc. The last two arcs are the best written parts of the entire novel. The first extra arc is a little extra sugar in this sugar deprived novel. If you end up reading this whole novel, I highly recommend you read the extras. They are totally worth it and will end the story with more sweet and touching moments that were lacking in the novel.

TL:DR

If you don't mind a novel with an emotionally numb MC, go ahead and read this. If you are looking for sweet romance and fluff, this novel has very little until later in the novel and in the extras. This is a very emotionally understated novel that tries to tell the story of a closed off MC opening up to ML over the span of the novel so if that's your jam, give it a try. <<less

A relaxing, slow paced BL about MC who just wants to cherish his life and learn to fall in love.

The romance is slow paced from strangers to friends to lovers and enjoyable to read. I like how they spent a lot of time together and that the MC put in initiative into the relationship as well. It's very cute how he goes into forums and follows all the relationship guides. ML is very gentle and cares a lot for MC. My final thoughts after finishing this novel were that it was pretty okay, nothing outstanding, but nothing inherently bad, yet it was quite lenghty for what it is. Ideally, I agree that average number of chapters 60-70 per book (for this type of story) is the most perfect number, author manages to tell the story, yet the reader has no time to get bored or get distracted before things are wrapped up.

This novel unfortunately started to feel long by the last part, so when you have such... more>> thoughts appearing as - let's get over with it - it's basically the sign. And I'm saying this because this novel has clear goals of two lines: the first is the main line having MC as its' central figure, which includes his change of goals in life, changing career and also falling in love, the second line includes the infight of the Zhao family, which re-appears from time to time, but is spread for quite some time. In the end it's spread like a very even and thin layer of butter, meticulous and took a long time.

Zhao Yao. Capable and smart salted fish. Author really spent time on "psychology" of the character. Zhao Yao spent a good decade in fighting for power in his own group. The result of it was a sick bed and all his subordinates avoiding him like a scorpion, only his eldest brother bothered to visit. Zhao Yao died from declining health and was reborn when he was 23, just before things took a big turn. In his previous life he did not know that he was a young man whose thoughts were manipulated from a young age and he was basically used as a shield, if he wasn't careful enough he would fall to the tactics of others, but in the end he fell victim to the problems with health born from all those worries and stress. Now he didn't want to fight, but it wasn't as easy not to be involved. He deemed that his eldest brother would be a perfect candidate for position, while he might invest here and there and be a shopkeeper. In his rebirth he took better care about very few people who cared for him and decided to follow the advice and figure out how to fall in love. Among many strategies and guides Pei Mingzhan came into picture, he was the one who started to take care of him slowly and pulled him out from the quigmire of insomnia. Slowly but surely their relatioship grew closer and one day Zhao Yao offered to take a step further.

Relationship. Because of Zhao Yao's family situation, which gets uncovered with time, we get a glimpse at a boy who grew in the family of a man who thought only about growing his business, but never about family matters or how to make siblings get along. After his mother's death there was no warmth and no guidance to lead him on the correct path, but there were intrigues and plans. Because ZY was led by his uncle and was also betrayed by him, this led him to be very suspicious and overthinking, it evolved into paranoia, which led to insomnia. Zhao Yao who is now only 23 still suffers from severe insomnia due to psychological factors. When he came across Pei Mingzhan, the latter was very concerned about this matter and slowly tried many methods to alleviate it. When Zhao Yao was very interested in knowing the psychology of a love relationship he was also beside him, so eventually this slowly build-up trust turned into their love relationship. The relationship development seemed quite slow (very slow))), because at first ZY tried to figure things out, before he realized that without practice everything pales in comparison, as a result Pei Mingzhan as the most suitable candidate received the offer from ZY to take it a step further and try dating. He aslo tried to change things within himself, since he didn't want to be completely dependant on care and also take part in developing this relationship. ZY feels like a studious scholar actually, because he's so serious about it. Pei Mingzhan really took time boiling frog in the warm water, both inside and outside, since he planned the development, which led to opening up about their relationship quite early. And don't tell me how he acts, the dude has a goal, the initiative came from ZY, so he followed happily. Everything else did not come into consideration. If in novels they took consideration of everything happening there would be no novels to consume, with your partner you will be selfish when it comes to your partner.

Baing vague. Despite great length and despite characters being portrayed in such a detail, do you still find that you have a vague feelings about the content? Sometime they talk like managers in general terms that mean nothing and everything. Especially it concerns meetings when ZY's character is involved, there are no details, just general terms. Like outside several dramas that were mentioned and one variety show what do you know about the entertainment company of ZY? Yeah, nothing, you know there are "projects", but many things are like that in the novel - vague~ :)

Lastly, it was indeed a read that is used when you want just to read something without great ups and downs and it is also lengthy. There was nothing catastrophic about this novel, nothing bad, pretty average events. Because goals were clear from the beginning (I mean, there's no need to be a guru to figure out that problems inside and outside will be solved, thus some things were predictable). Did it stand out among the others? Not really. Would I recommend it? Only when you want to read something like this :) Personally, if events were more compressed I'd like it more. <<less

I didn't really manage to get to the end even though there like 8 chapters left. I was done after finding out what happened to the final villain.

From the start I did enjoy the MC who was really clueless about love and want to relax. I was thinking he was going to do alot more things th and staying at home and maybe travel, play, meet more friends?

It was fine he watching films and movies, read books about relationships. But here's the parts that starts to annoying me.

- 80% of... more>> this novel is spend on Weibo or what!? I don't really care about fans have to say, I want to see the characters interactions.

- MC maintain old relationships from last life, but fails to make any new friends that build on trust, these new people are more like subordinates huh? I think making some of the talents he scouted love Rival's would help? Basically nothing out of these relationships but subordination.

- ML such a calculative rat? He doesn't tell MC about their past? When MC is in trouble tired in the past where was he? He said he love him in the past? But where was he when he was about to die in past or suffering? If he still remember him since childhood he should've talked to him?. Puke. He never be honest with MC and never really teach him about romance. I will not forget that MC have to confess first ? How long were you going to still calculate him every step? Also MC like Privacy but ML keep dragging him out to Punlic on multiple occasions. The lack of respect for MCs privacy sometimes urgh. The romance was dragged down because MC is always confused, and go ask for help ML is right there, go and just do the things and why can't ML just give him straight answers. Also he sucks in bed! MC is never tired hell why isn't MC is the GONG. ML besides having a family background I don't see him having any real skills besides acting. MC have to saving him and relies on himself 95% of the time.

ML is just a vase to me. Also is there only one movie Emperor in this world? Why are they only concentrating on ML? There's many Entertainment companies surely there's more than one good actor. The fact where he goes in different cities people will recognise him in one glance is annoying as hell. Any romance scenes is ruined because of constantly you can't relax and enjoy any moments of their interactions out in the public.

Family members are also disappointing, literally none of them stands out. 2nd sister is just a wash in the pan. She came and went. Villain dissappear most of the time and shows up occasionally because it's been too peaceful and has no impact in the story.

The romance is boring, that will leave you unsatisfied because you feel like MC still remains a robot near the end. ML failed to really add anything to the table. It's like a vase that MC happen to find suitable as a partner.

Overall I don't recommend reading this unless you're really bored and have really got nothing to read. The fact I can't even finish when near the end is the nail in the coffin. I have to rush through alot of unnecessary fan posts from weibo and alot blalallalalal informations really killed my drive to even finish. This novel have a good concept and but did not deliver as it should. Boring and disappointing <<less

Very well written! The characters are well portrayed and used well, even the passerby.

Usually, in entertainment setting, it is the MC who is the actor and the president is the ML. In here, it is the opposite. I quite understand the feeling of MC and its a relief to see him doing well in this life.

Probably the idle moments and the not so sweet dating in the middle is a little monotonous but that makes this novel quite realistic.

It's surprisingly good. I had low expectations, but it turned out nice.

The characters don't feel flat. They're not exceedingly in depth, but their personality is written in a believable way. Their personality don't only consist of one adjective, and there is logic behind their actions. The plot isn't complicated nor is it cliche. It's quite enjoyable to read, if you don't mind it being a bit slow. I do think the romance is well-paced. It's not too fast, but they get together at a nice time and you probably won't... more>> get annoyed at the pace of the romance unless you're impatient.

Most of the time, when I read extras in romance novels, I don't expect much. It's either the side CP (which in most cases I skip), or some random short stories that are entertaining to read, but won't affect my view of the novel much. The extras in this novel was really nice and cute, it didn't feel random, and it provided some nice aftertaste to reading the novel. It didn't make me view the novel in a whole new light, but I'd say they are better written extras than most novels.

Overall, it'd definitely recommend it. Excuse my terrible English, and perhaps give this novel a chance if you have some free time. Have a nice day. <<less

this book is likable if somewhat slow paced. The romance is surprisingly cute as it consists of a starting point of actual friendship, the MC has all these questions about common romance routines like going to movies, amusement parks, aquariums etc and the ML tags along with him with the ML falling first. The MC has a variety of mental issues left from his high stress last life and they are worked through gradually without the cliché trope of love cures all, although the ML does help a great deal.... more>> I actually love the mc's family both the good and bad of it and how part of his healing process was learning to let go of the bad and recognise the good in his family. <<less

Slow steady novel

not a revenge or face slapping story

id say it is a bit boring and yet I was invested enough that I kept reading till the end.

the novel being shorter would’ve probably helped. Like the online Platform story is just... nothing? Doesn’t really add much. We already know the characters are savvy and intelligent, they could’ve continued to invest in entertainment areas and the fans would’ve been excited any way. Neither ML nor MC have anything to prove and are already on equal grounds in terms of power and... more>> wealth. And with the ML already 27 and planing to retire, the impact on him is also minimal. So all the problems with the platform etc feel more like dragging out the story. Which is frustrating because the relationship really wasn’t detailed a lot and by that point should’ve been focused on more then a random guy having his tech stolen and blah. <<less

I may drop this. I like the MC and am reasonably interested in his business journey and potential development of a better relationship with his older brother.

Something about the writing feels a bit slow to actually read, though, and ML so far is boring as hell and also pretty pointless to the story. Reading some reviews, it's hard to know how I will feel about the future relationship. I might quite enjoy it, but there are enough lukewarm opinions that I suspect I will continue to find him a bit whatever and the romance a bit bland and standard.

Anyway, I'm going to pause-maybe-drop this since I'm a bit too tired and want to switch to something a bit more engaging. Pity this isn't just a career-no-romance story, ig...

I really liked the premise, but the overall plot got a little boring for me after the main couple got together. It was pretty funny watching them slowly cultivate feelings, especially since MC was dense as hell, but their actually getting together was pretty anticlimactic. This novel is the definition of a slow burn that doesn't feel slow because the characters are basically dating before they actually start dating.

The two main characters are a little bland, nothing too special to keep me invested. ML is another film emperor type and... more>> the novel really would make you think that he's the only famous person in the world with how every comment online is constantly drooling over everything he does. There's a lot of netizen comments in this novel that got pretty redundant for me, and the ML is also quite unprofessional for a guy that's supposedly the best actor of his generation. He's also only 27 and wants to retire already. Honestly I'm a bit jealous.

Overall I enjoyed the beginning of the novel, might go back and finish the last few chapters if the translation completes. The netizen comments are a pain to MTL and I just don't want to do it anymore lol <<less

It is an enjoyable light-hearted and slow read to relax with. Nothing emotionally or plot heavy. The world building is really great, the characterization, the side characters, everything is pretty good, nothing to really critisize, just relax and take everything with a light heart. I ship the MC and ML in this so hard, they are both lovable and make a cute couple together. And speaking of the side characters, I especially fell in love with the netizens, they are such a delightful addition to this novel, I'm always looking... more>> forward to their comments on situations whenever solething involving the main leads happens, be it their enthusiasme, sillyness, or witfull comments, or even their banter between themselves, all of it is enjoyable and made me almost feel part of them, such wholesome side characters. <<less

The world revolves around MC

It's quite comfortable reading their love story, I don't feel awkward and it's not that boring either.

A slow paced romance. MC is ML's childhood sweetheart btw.

The extras also good. They have the original timeline and the parallel world where MC didn't go to the zhao family.

It was good. The concept was a bit original and the characters were very lively. I wish some had more scenes in the story and character development. From tge middle it became a slow motion writing, I hoped it would progress into a more fast paced novel, that way they could insert more content on the MC ML and his family and maybe more of the side characters.

To sum it up, you can read it once, and maybe twice the first quarter cause it was interesting.

Sigh, it's really hard to find MTL that's actually easy to read and understand! This one was really good, so I was able to read past the available translated chapters.

I initially liked the MC being direct, serious, wise and decisive. But on the romance aspect... he was pretty cute for being oblivious but eventually I was pulling my hair. I think there's just a point where I can't stand a really low EQ. I do appreciate him for eventually knowing what he wants and not being idle about it though.

I... more>> liked reading about the progress of his business acquisitions and the little face slapping moments here and there. But it's just not exciting for me to read further, coupled with MC's apathetic approach... maybe I just wanted to see more personality from him. I can always picture him being so straight faced and emotionless and I'm not really into that. he's been pretty bland, and sometimes he could even pass off as a self-inserted MC. Also the getting together was a bit random?

All in all, decent read but not intriguing enough to continue for me. <<less

I'm probably waiting until it's translated until continuing, it MTLs alright, but I'm not big on reading slow stuff with MTL.

I decided to drop the story halfway through because I just had no interest to hear more about these characters. Many of the comments mention that the story is slow, but I don't really think so. I have no issue with slow going plots, however here I think the real problem is that the story is bland and uninteresting.

Some of the issues I have can be summed as such:

  • We are inundated with netizens comments that add nothing to the plot, all that even though the MC is not an actor. I'm not a fan of constant Weibo commentary. I was just skipping it cause they were adding nothing to the plot.
  • Half the conversations the MC has happen while he's actively watching tv so you get the feeling it's half hearted. And while some of the talks between the mains are actually very nice, the other half is mentioned in passing as having happened, so you don't actually read them.
  • I can ignore a lot of inconsistencies while reading if the plot is good, but when it's not a lot of it is blaring. Like the fact that the whole world decided to build up this magical relationship between the mains from nothing, even close confidants who are supposed to be professional.
  • The relationships with friends or people around them feel very shallow. It's completely unclear how someone like the MC made friend with his assistant and what keeps that friendship together. The people that work for the ML are just names on paper and have no personality. The MC's family has potential but even that ends up being unrealized.
There are other small issues but overall the story is just uninteresting and failed to engage me. But it's not bad per se so I won't give it a low score. If you don't mind and enjoy netizens, and are ok with a story... more>> on the blander side you might enjoy this.

One of the comments mentioned how the ML failed to help the MC in the previous life and I'm somewhat confused because it mentions very early on that the ML was dead by then. I don't see how they could have missed that unless they stopped reading very early on but then you should assume it would be explained.

I sincerely enjoyed this read. It made me laugh. It is the definition of "boiling frogs in warm water". I feel so sorry for the ml's fans and how they gaslit themselves 😂.

Unfortunately I mtl'd this so of course the story felt unnecessarily long.
