[SUMMARY] One is a recent graduate of university, born in a family of forensic doctors, One is a girl from ancient times who was born in a small farming family.

Wu Wei, who is a recent graduate from modern times, accidentally travels back in time to a time that has never been recorded on Earth after investigating a hidden underwater ancient building. Unfamiliar without friends or family, she chose to take shelter in an empty coffin home to avoid the winter. Wu Wei decides to wait til the start of spring next year in order to find a way to return to the present time. She did not think that she would encounter a young embroidery lady who had been forcefully separated from her family.

Xiuniang, surname Liu, third daughter, without a name, neighbours all call her “San Niang” . Because she did good needlework, after reaching marriageable age she was referred to as “Xiuniang”. Landlord Wu of a silk cloth store took a liking to Xiuniang’s embroidery work, and gave her a betrothal gift and prepared to send Xiuniang to marry his sickly son, however, his son died from sickness on the day before the wedding. Not even a few days later, Xiuniang’s father died as well, from that day onwards, Xiuniang became widely known as the “broom star” and “messenger of death”, no one dared to buy her embroidery. Xiuniang was forced to separate from her family. As winter was approaching, Xiuniang stayed beside a coffin home in an extremely shabby old home.

Xiu Niang never thought that: she would be living with a strange girl for her whole life.
Wu Wei never thought that: she would unexplainably travel back in time, and get involved in one bizarre case after another.

So far, one of the most interesting and well written Baihe I have ever read.

The author is pretty well known, I won't go into details but just know that it's a slow burn and the well written type (no illogical events, no weird and stereotype characters).

The start and situation the MC founds herself in is not unique, but the general theme is something I have never seen before.

Give it a go, it's just good and I'm 100% confident having read another novel from the same author that it will stay... more>> good for pretty much the entire novel. <<less

This is the second time the author wrote about transmigration (the first one is Matrilocal Marriage). I think the difference between Female Coroner and Matrilocal Marriage is that the

former has outside nations included in the middle of the plot

while the latter has it included the end of the plot. What I like about the author is that every ancient china novel she wrote, the social standings of the main characters are different. Royalty in JWQS, General and Princess in FGEP, businesswoman in Matrilocal Marriage, and now just pure commoners in Female Coroner. In addition, a crucial trait that sets the novel apart from those is that the main characters are not cross dressing or hiding their female identity (the closet is made of glass). However, despite the word "coroner" is included in the title,

so I was kind of disappointed of that. I also noticed in the author's novels that no matter how it started, there will always be a 'struggle of the court' plot included. Whether the characters are directly or indirectly involved. Overall, it is a good novel. It's like Apothecary Diaries where MaoMao just wants to do her apothecary things but gets involved in matters of the court. But they do get a happy ending.
