So I read mtl~ (it’s really hard to find... I could only read on the official page ^^‘)

First things first, I really like this novel! At the start... I gotta say I didn’t like how... more>>
Spoiler

MC used the villagers as cheap Labor,

[collapse]
but... I suppose his luck didn’t last that long haha with ML and all

Now... talking about MC and ML, if I’m not blind, this novel was not tagged as „seme protagonist“. Sadly, I prefer shou Protagonists, (and rather avoid the other tag) so, when reading, I will always kind of imagine them, depending on shou or gong differently. SO I realized, while reading

ML (Ye You) is
Spoiler

shorter, more slender, and more beautiful than MC.

[collapse]

MC (Cheng Zhou)
Spoiler

on the other side, is broader (??)

[collapse]

What I mean is
Spoiler

I started reading this, with the belief that MC is the shou (tho it’s shounen-ai and nothing will happen). And... there are actually plenty of hints, that MC may actually be the gong. You will see them, when reading the next few chapters.

I just think, ok yes, the Gong can be shorter, more pretty etc, but... just... he seems to be compared to female characters sometimes (I’ve seen it twice) and sure! He can still be the gong! BUT, I looked at the comments on the official page. Even though I didn’t find it in the descriptions, but one of the commenters wrote that this was a „main-attack (aka Gong) text“

[collapse]

So I’m suspecting that this is actually a
Spoiler

seme protagonist

[collapse]
novel... which is why, I won’t continue reading this (at least not mtl, maybe I’ll wait till it’s translated^^‘) It’s just personal preference ah... I really liked the premise... and would have liked to know more about this world... Anyway, let’s wait and see ^^) /~ <<less

This novel is Ok. Not the best novel that I've read, but I enjoyed reading it albeit the momentary annoyance towards the characters.

I really love upgrade novels, but the characters are such..... A burden?

I don't know what's wrong with the author's mind. Why did she suddenly turned the MC's brother into a side couple with some random stranger? The MC and the ML doesn't even have a sense of romance anymore, yet she added another "side couple" aka burden who leeched off the MC's luck.

The most annoying thing is that,... more>> the Taoist Companion of the MC's brother have the same spiritual root as the ML, so, the ML's time slot was reduced because he was outshined by some random stranger that they found from who-knows-where.

The MC's brother is so dependent that it seems like the MC is responsible for raising him... As if I forgot how he looked down upon the MC when he first arrived in the Tan Family.

I actually liked MC's adopted brother better. He's adorable, have a sense of justice, and had more brotherly affection towards MC.

It also mentioned that he was originally strong, even before he got a unique skill.

Unlike MC's biological brother who only relied on his superpowers and looked down on ordinary humans.

Speaking of which, the MC's brother looked down on him for being gay too, but I guess everyone could get away from the author's whitewashing skills.

I wonder, if the MC was only an ordinary person and never showed his fighting power in front of his brother, what would his brother think about him?

I bet he'd still label MC as a "weak and ordinary homosexual." <<less

I think it's good so far. The MC suddenly gets an ability to travel back and forth between another world with magic swordsmen, fairy's/spirits, fallen demons (that are probably not really demons) and a hierarchy based society.
Spoiler

MC meets ML and becomes his "s*ave", they are magically bound together, like the ML eats something and the MC feels full.

I read everything in MTL. This is one of the easier novels to understand in MTL, and you should have little problem understanding what’s going on.

Anyway. This didn’t turn out like I was expecting. I guess it is true that the MC farms the entire time, but this is actually a super convoluted cultivation novel. I say convoluted because the first two arcs of the novel are MC connecting to the first world, then somehow landing in the second world, and THEN he ends up in the world of cultivation... more>> which has a bunch of realms, and the supernatural powers of the first and second are different from the cultivation powers but some of them aren’t... It’s confusing.

Anyway. Those expecting romance shouldn’t read this. There is romance, but it’s glossed over. The main focus here is on MC and his journey to be the most OP person in the entire story world. His partner’s strong but slightly weaker, and by the end of the story he contributes but isn’t mentioned much, so you know he exists but it’s like his character development ended in the first arc. MC takes the rest of his family on the ride too but they all sort of leave to do their own thing at different points and are barely mentioned. He has a ton of allies but by the end, barely any from the earlier arcs are mentioned, even though they should still be alive thanks to the power of cultivation. But, whatever, I guess.

The story ends on a cliffhanger where there’s no real conclusion regarding MC’s most broken weapon. You know he’s the strongest around, I guess that’s all that matters? It did tie up some loose ends, so it’s not a terrible ending, but I wonder if the author wanted to make a continuation, and honestly I kind of hope that they don’t because the power gains at the end were so rapid compared to the beginning that I wonder if the author was sick and tired of writing this novel.

That’s not to say this is a bad novel. I read everything, didn’t I? But it’s not amazing either. You should read this if you like superpowered MCs. If you’re a fan of any Shounen Jump series, this is for you. It could actually be a decent, ridiculously long shounen anime like Naruto or Bleach or whatever. But with better romance, which isn’t saying a lot really. <<less

(Updated Review) I gave it another read just now, and my impressions were pretty much the same as before. The only difference is the MTL aspect, I've found a way to read MTL without too many errors + I've become used to the MTL language lol, so my understanding has risen quite a bit.

My reason for dropping the novel after the first arc (around 150-250) has also been clarified. It's because the main characters had already been settled. There was no more room for growth besides their upgrades... more>> in strength. So the story turns out to be more about upgrade flow from then on. Making the story focus on the plot rather than the characters. Usually, when stories hit this zone, it's easy to drop stories. Because the characters have reached their happily ever after (figuratively), and there's nothing else to really look forward to besides them crushing their opponents again and again. That's what I feel anyway. So despite my attraction to the interesting world setings (which had me skipping and skimming 200 chapters XD I actually dropped the story at c200 something, but I skipped and skimmed until I reach the second arc before actually committing to it T.T) I still have up in the end.

OLD REVIEW:

I like the premise quite a bit, but reading it in MTL sucks rhe fun out of everything T.T Also it could be the MTL but things are a bit of a mess. There's constant jumping of POVs and there's not enough focus on the main characters. I initially thought this would focus more on the poor-to-rich aspect (which was the case in the introductory chapters) and then the MC would explore the other world slowly. But nope. The poor-to-rich aspect is second fiddle. This is mostly a self-indulgent novel where the MC is super OP and there's constant plots going on. I still like it quite a bit, and I think, if the TL progresses, the experience would improve, but for now T.T I can't continue reading.

By the way, in terms of romance and characterization... well, that's not really the focus. IDK if I missed something but the romance development is kinda lacking. So yeah. This novel really is mostly having fun and living vicariously through an OP MC. Not a bad thing, but you need to be in a certain mood to enjoy it. And the MTL, while readable through Google Translate, is a bit hard to swallow at times.

I wont be rating this for now! Will come back later when I have the chance to reread. If nothing else, the worldbuilding of this novel is quite interesting and worth coming back for! It's of the Western Fantasy variety, which I quite like! <<less
