【Fake history, don’t take it seriously. 】

That year, Duke Wei returned to the capital from his northern patrol and brought back tens of thousands of captives.

In the rusty iron cage filled with stains, the Ninth Prince Zhou Huaiyan saw the little foreigner for the first time.

Black curly hair, pale green eyes, and scars of wounds strung together like beads. Although he was extremely afraid, he still bared his fangs fiercely.

His appearance looked very much like the long-haired cat he once had.

On a whim, Zhou Huaiyan took the person in, brought him back, washed him clean, and kept him by his side to admire his beauty.

The young man gently caressed his beautiful green eyes,

“From now on, you’ll be called Ah Fei.”

But no one expected that many years later, Ah Fei would become the only king of a different surname in the Zhou Dynasty, with great and impressive military exploits, shocking the land under heaven.

At that time, the emperor was old, sick, and weak, and his princes suddenly died one after another.

The king with a different surname seemed to have the intention of usurping the throne, leaving everyone’s hearts in the royal court and the court of law panicking.

The imprisoned Zhou Huaiyan sighed——

The unscrupulous indulgence of his youth has now become the most shameful past for this God of War.

Maybe he will be the one who dies the most tragically among the princes.

But in the end, Zhou Huaiyan didn’t expect that the ice-cold blade he had been waiting for did not come, rather, it was the imperial jade seal with all the bloodstains washed away.

“Master……”

The tall and beautiful foreign man crawled at his feet, looking as obedient and attached as a cat.

“Touch this s*ave, please…”

——

Everyone in the court and the commons knows that the king with a different surname who is now in power was just a lowly s*ave for Zhou Huaiyan to play with.

“So this is how you take revenge on me,”

The young man in the golden cage raised his head and gazed at the foreign man’s bulging belly with complicated eyes.

“By locking me up just to get you pregnant?”

WHAT, I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE I WAS ALREADY AT THE LAST CHAPTER😭😭 I NEED MORE🙏🙏🙏

Anyways, I finally finished reading this novel so here's my review:

1. First things first, before leaving a review, please do take some time to skim the story (if you can't read it anymore) rather than concluding things without even finishing it.

2. I would like to address the said 'racism' within the story. Yes, it exists in their society. It's in a historical setting, and since there is an empire and there is war, hatred between races... more>> are inevitable. But Zhou Huaiyan actually tried to make a point in the story that no race is inferior to anyone else's. By the end of the story, Zhou Huaiyan broke through this stereotypes by

turning Ah Fei into an Empress, which is actually against the social norm since Ah Fei was of foreign blood too, even their child was allowed to rule, despite the different race, because Zhou Huaiyan paved the way!

[collapse]
I don't think the incorporation of racism in this story is that bad. In fact, it added depth to the plot of 'fighting against societal norms'.

3. The concept of s*aves. If you've ever read The Captive Prince Trilogy, I'm pretty sure you would love this too! Also, as seen in the tags, Ah Fei, our shou, is the s*ave. A foreign s*ave at that. If you're not comfy with this kind of plot, please leave and do not force yourself into reading this and then leaving a bad review because you don't like master-s*ave relationship. Though Ah Fei was freed from being a s*ave and even became a powerful figure in the latter part of the story. Also, by the end of the story, Zhou Huaiyan abolished the s*avery happening in the empire. So, yes, Zhou Huaiyan is our king of change! Lol.

4. Ah Fei's young appearance. Zhou Huaiyan did like Ah Fei's face, mainly because of his cat-like emerald eyes. And, I just want to spoil that, Ah Fei will actually transform into a handsome, manly guy. So, nope. Zhou Huaiyan isn't 'just' obsessed with his childlike appearance. Even with Ah Fei's manly, adult face (even his body build was slightly larger than Huaiyan), our gong still preferred him!

5. Feminism. Wow, I just... Gosh! I'm so in love how the author included this in the story. The way women were treated and how Huaiyan changed the empire by finally allowing privileges for women that weren't allowed before. I LOVE IT!

6. THE EXTRAS! DO NOT MISS THE EXTRAS! It will delve deeper as to how much they love each other despite the difference in settings! I seriously craved for more. It's so sweet. Ugh.

7. There are parts of the story that you should also carefully thread of. Since the setting involves war, expect lives being killed, and Zhou Huaiyan, hurt by the death

of his loved one

, resorted in extreme measures to avenge that person. This includes all of those who schemed against him. And! In case you want to drop this part, skim a bit and hear his side and inner thoughts. The narrative actually makes you empathize with him, surprisingly so. And he'll change again by the end!

8. Also, just in case some might say that the love between Zhou Huaiyan and Ah Fei isn't equal—do not talk about it unless you finished all chapters. INCLUDING THE EXTRAS. Zhou Huaiyan couldn't have lived without Ah Fei, and so does Ah Fei to Zhou Huaiyan.

9. I love them equally. Their character development was crazy good. From the crying little s*ave to the fierce general. From the overly suspicious and indifferent beautiful prince to a man who would be swayed just by seeing Ah Fei.

10. Very kinky. Especially the extras hahshshsh.

I enjoyed the story! Love love! <<less

This novel is a deeply flawed and offensive work that masquerades as art. The story is marred by clichés, weak character development, and a complete lack of nuance.

The writing is clumsy and amateurish, with stilted dialogue and a meandering plot that lacks direction.

The portrayal of foreign characters is particularly egregious, relying on harmful stereotypes and reducing their identities to shallow physical descriptions.

The novel also objectifies a young s*ave, romanticizing his foreign features and childlike appearance. The author's fixation on his exotic looks and mixed heritage is disturbing, treating him as... more>> a mere object of desire and stripping him of his humanity.

The writer's lack of self-awareness is staggering, as they seem oblivious to the harm they're causing.

While the translation team did an amazing job to make this novel semi-palatable, I still couldn't help but think that one would need to be particularly... blinded to its glaring issues to truly enjoy it.

Overall, this novel is a disappointing read, a direct insult to the very concept of literature. <<less

Overall 4/5 stars

Where is the tragedy tag?!? I expected a sweet romance to fall asleep to but instead I'm up crying at 3am and begging them to just talk it out!

3/5 Plot because the misunderstandings could have been solved if they just talked it out and the ending didn't feel satisfactory for me but bonus star for making me so invested I didn't realize these until a few hours after I finished the entire thing. So 4/5 plot

5/5 Characters because the characters have distinct qualities and include flaws that work well with the story.

And 4/5 world building because dispite how good the world building is it feels kinda racist to label entire races "evil" or "barbaric" and then mass genocide those said races. Call me soft hearted but maybe words could have been used instead of landmines and guns (just sayin)

This was a very cute story even with the drama in the middle. I also liked how everyone had character development.

Actual rating is about 4.5, but I’ll leave it at 4 since it seems more accurate.

it fails at establishing a proper “return” to the relationship status after the imprisonment of ZHY by YF. There’s basically no consequences or repercussions towards YF’s repeatedly going against ZHY’s express wishes, and even though his “rebellion” is good to establish character, and specially character growth, it doesn’t stand to reason that ZHY would just gladly take it without even some kind of conversation about how much it hurts him. And YF did hurt ZHY a lot.

[collapse]

The plot feels less satisfying because of this, but overall it’s a good work, and the early relationship is a very cute development.

Also,

ruthless ZHY is very nice to read, and his scheming, although unexplored and basically forgotten in the later half, is satisfying to read.
