pretty good novel

sadly the part where he makes games is only a tiny part of the novel and he only makes 2 games iirc.

the focus then becomes the MC starting his own profession and guild, where he tries to get stronger but find it very difficult to do so because of his extremely low talent.

we have the MC doing xianxia stuff where he goes into ruins, take part in inheritance tests, create his own attack cards and constantly tries to fool people to join his guild because he has a... more>> formation over it, where everyone's talent is averaged out and since he has negative talent, his talent in cultivation only gets higher the more geniuses he scam into joining his guild.

he does create more and more cards but only the first two are games.

there is hardly any strife and it feels more like a comedic slice of life in a xianxia world but you might be disappointed if you are looking for more because there really isn't much besides some cheap laughs here right now

some arcs according to what I remember

Spoiler

arc 1 is getting rich. He does this by making fruit ninja. Pretty fun arc

arc 2 is getting more money. He makes some fish game that is a life saving card in fights

arc 3 is an inheritance trial

arc 4 is introduction to his sister, him creating his own profession and his guild/association

arc 5 is him moving cities and the events that led to it

arc 6 is establishing himself in the city, getting money by setting up biz and dealing with assassins + his past

arc 7 is him setting up his own school so he can promote his profession and association. Dealing with the inheritance he gets in arc 3 (the island)

arc 8 is the truth behind him + his sister + his parents but not really solved, just more info. More stuff that happens.

[collapse]

events might not be in the right order cus there aren't really "arcs", just things that happen

TL;DR: Fun and unique concept but the novel deteriorates in at the end of volume 1 where it starts to have an excessive amount of bad slapstick/tsukkomi comedy which causes a sharp drop in quality of the novel. You can't take anything serious anymore. And it's really a shame because if the author stopped forcing his humor everywhere the story would be good. Because once in a while when there is finally a serious chapter the story really starts to shine.

Full review:

This is novel that has uniqueness to it. When you think about cultivation you don't really think about card creators. The way the MC uses these cards in battles is also rather unique. The "guild building" part is also well done. The major side characters are charming too.

The downside is that the creation of the cards and the techniques behind it are not well constructed. In the beginning the author said it was similar to programming but I can't see how drawing lines and strokes has anything to do with programming. The other techniques such are also vauge, I feel like the author is just making stuff up on the spot. The "card creator" cultivation the MC practises is not well described.

It also has some Chinese patriotism, and it's mostly about current issues like where the MC thinks that the slander towards him is similar to how Huawei is being accused which he links to Apple being the culprit (in chapter 545). Even though this is in a new "world" he still relates things to his previous world. However it's very minor and such messages rarely happen. I'm not sure if the author is doing this due to being pressured to write government propaganda or he's doing this out of his own will. Because such mentions are rare in the novel.

Another point is that the humor might not be for everyone. Especially the "dirty" jokes. The story also keeps repeating the same kind of jokes, they aren't "high level" type of jokes but instead often slapstick tier jokes. I feel like the first 100 or so chapters is where the story was at its peak, from there on it just becomes mediocre. When you get to volume 2 of the novel the joking frequency increases way too much to the point of being excessive. Everything the MC does or happens around him needs some kind of joke, some kind of misunderstanding, some kind of tsukkomi and some kind of weird thought. Even during fights he is thinking or talking about things that are supposed to be "funny" which ruins the mood of the fight.

An example of excessive humor: (contains spoilers)
Spoiler

In chapter 628-629 we finally unravel the mystery about Lu Ming (the mc). His weird constitution, his lack of talent and why his parents are not around. However this serious backstory is ruined immediately by forced comedy about his dad not recognizing him. They then fight over some shitty "funny" misunderstandings while saying tsukkomi's that are supposed to be funny. Then afterwards when his dad reveals the story Lu Ming has to think about inappropriate things again so it's "funny". I find this entire thing very distasteful, his parents were very irresponsible. They gave birth to him knowing that it would cause issues, they then put an even bigger issue into his body in order to fix the aforementioned issue. And then abandoned him in order to fix the issue they created themselves. And since his father didn't even recognize him it means that they didn't even bother to check up on him. His sister tried to keep him safe but didn't manage to do so because the original Lu Ming has already died, and our otherworldly MC basically hijacked his body. And now all of this is basically being invalidated because haha we need more "dirty jokes", tsukkomi's, misunderstandings, "black faces", ect. This entire thing is so disappointing.

[collapse]

If you are really looking for something more balanced in jokes and serious content in the genre of modern day comedy cultivation then I would recommend Cultivation Chat Group. Because that novel is imo superior in every aspect compared to this one.

Starts out okay, but you can tell from an early chapter that the author doesn't understand how to write this type of series.

So the reason I liked the story was because the story was a slow production class type fiction. The protagonist would slowly develop his cards and learn great new techniques through hard work. The author starts ruining this around chapter 100.

The combat doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The protagonists miraculous fighting idea is to spam cards by bringing a large stack of portable extra energy cards... more>> with him. Are you seriously telling me no one's thought of this before? That this is some rarely seen combat technique that a decidedly poor protagonist can pull off better than everyone else?

Secondly, as of the current chapter, the protagonist is starting to indulge in "endless loot drops". In short, the author decided as of chapter 117 to start dropping about 10 times more loot on the protagonist than any previous time in the story. Congratulations, you've just ruined your story about a hard working protagonist...

The bad OP gets much worse as we get further into the 100's. The protagonist skips from the early-mid stages of level 2 cultivation to the peak of level 3 cultivation in a couple chapters. Author seems to think dumping endless free treasures on the protagonist is enjoyable....

Final judgement, story is pretty decent until chapter 100, then it's a downward slog of bad op. <<less

I find this novel wonderful, it is so novel. It does not use anything of insane abilities, nor that just for being of another world the protagonist must be better than the others. In the novel it has already been said many times that he is not a genius, he is only able to use his knowledge of his life as a programmer to assimilate it with how to create letters together with the fact that his line of thinking is more flexible is what makes The protagonist is more... more>> interesting.

RECOMMENDED NOVEL 100% <<less

Just interesting enough to keep reading.

I feel like it's walking a tightrope between keep my attention and not being that interesting.

Has some funny points, but MC feels a little isolated given amount of opportunity he has for interaction with side cast.

Other reviews suggest the quality drops around chapter 100 but I couldn't get there, everything is kind of weird and it just bums me out.

The novel isn't all that bad and can get you a good laugh or two every now and then but it's just not planned well, I guess the pacing is all over the pace and it just seems worse than it actually is.

I don't know if I'm reading a comedy or a xianxia because the comedy is too sporadic and there are a lot of info... more>> dumps about the whole card creation system, the concept is unique (at least as far as I'm concerned I've never read another eastern fantasy with a cultivation system based on card creation and card usage) but the system isn't developed well enough to be interesting, it's vague most of the time but overly specific in some particular situations so the whole novel feels weird to me, I don't know what to expect in a bad sense.

I don't get why the way he fights is unique or anything, everybody with money can buy energy cards and do the same thing he is doing.
He can "stack" cards of the same type with his "unique" original card to cultivate really fast but other people can do the same and obtain the same results, (even without the original card spells like "chain fireball" exist so it's possible to do it in other ways) why is nobody doing it?
The card creation system is compared to programming but I don't get why, it's more like calligraphy than everything else.

You have all kinds of vague explainations about the combat system and power levels then 3 chapters in a row about him drawing lines.

The cultivation system is a problem but I could get over it if the plot or the interaction between characters were good enough to carry the story but for me it's a miss.

There is... no plot for now and I've read about one tenth of the story and forget a "harem", besides the MC there's no other character that can't be summarized with one or two words. The other characters don't interact enough with the MC, hell in this novel nobody talks, it's just the MC monologuing most of the time.

I guess.... 3 stars? <<less

This is either a hit or miss. If you find the comedy funny like I did, youll freaking love this novel. Otherwise you will hate it as this novel is mostly comedy. Another reason you may dislike is that the mc's disciple is a loli. If you have a strong dislike on it for whatever reason, you will hate this novel. If youre on the other end of the spectrum and need desperate mental health repair help, youll love this. Anyways, I loved this novel, but sadly the translator had... more>> dropped, which is sort of unsurprising as newer webnovel translations are getting dropped a lot now... Reason why I rated this a 4 is because it can get repetitive. Also, for the mine arc schooltrip, you need to power through it as that was somewhat bad and almost ended up droppong the novel towards one of my favorite novels in the beginning due to the lousy arc. <<less

This is a lighthearted, silly action-comedy romp. At the start, it looks like a 'hardworking support class person vs arrogant combat class people', but quickly devolves into 'OP MC with luck halo demolishes all opposition.'

The reason that I'm giving the story a 5/5 rating despite this is because the story absolutely knows that it's doing this, doesn't take itself at all seriously, and has a wicked sense of humor about it all. However, compared to a few other action-comedy series (some of novels with the word 'system' in the title... more>> come to mind) it also isn't purely about self-indulgent narcissism and power fantasies; there are enough jokes at the main character's expense, limits and setbacks to their progress, and development of other characters in the world further than cardboard cut-outs which keep the story engaging. I laughed out loud a few times reading this, and ran through 450 chapters overnight, so it's definitely worth picking up! <<less

This is a great story. It's pretty unique in it's cultivation system. I cant' find another story which deals with sealing using cards and the like. Give it a try, it's worth a read. The humor is good in parts and in other parts overdone. That said, it doesn't take away from the story overall.

The story till now has been light-hearted. There is not much action, but a major part of it is because the MC was too weak in the beginning. But in the last few chapters, he has been growing in strength.

The comedy in the book is much better than most CNs. The ridiculous unintended situations that come about due to MC's actions are the core of comedy.

The MC is intelligent and hard-working (mostly due to fear of death), and handles many situations very well. There are not many cheat abilities that... more>> he has and his own disciple is currently outshining him in terms of cheats.

Overall, this novel has made a very good first impression on me and is currently one of my favorite novels on NU in translation. <<less

Don't bother. It could've been a very fun novel but the author's writing style combined with the awkward translation makes it a pain to read and ruins everything.

The idea isn't bad. Supposed to be some kind of gag/comedy novel that just isn't serious at all. Cultivation exists and the protagonist has a pretty fun personality. It's basically about pulling one gag after another with the mc's trolling and various antics.

But we have a few flaws that are incredibly big and ruins things. The whole idea that programming is the same... more>> as painting cards with various power lines is hilariously idiotic, at least in the way the author presented it where it makes no sense. If the author was a tad bit more clever, maybe he'd be able to make it work but as it stands here, it's just a shoddy gimmick to reference the mc's past life.

The worst parts are really the author's writing "style" and the translator's "translations". The author writes things in an incredibly choppy fashion. The protagonist talks and thinks in a very choppy way, he rapid fires internal questions that he answers for himself. He's acting like a confused mental patient. The author just writes questions and statements as the MC clowns around in a one man show. Clearly he has no idea what paragraphs are and often line breaks with 1 or 2 words or maybe one sentence said.

The translation makes this issue even worse. The translations are wrong all over the place. Often they mean the exact opposite thing to what they should, like "Lu Ming recovered from his senses.". Tons of awkward word choices that make no sense as well. The flow becomes several times worse than the original due to the horrible grammar.

Sadly, this is at most a 2/5 star novel. With a good translation, it might be a 3/5 novel that was just good enough to read, but this just isn't. So sad how many novels are completely ruined by qidian/webnovel, they have no quality control and don't even finish a lot of novels and it just gets worse as time goes on because the good translators were scared away after getting enough of their crap. <<less

the MC draw me in at first, because he use his brain sometimes... only sometimes

there are lot of ridiculous moments, its that kind of story you will find funny or not from a few glances, depending on your preferences I guess...

unfortunately the story spiraling downwards real quick, the author removed mc's good qualities for the sake of convenience the further story goes, and im not that amused with the comedic tropes that author rewashed many times
