One day, Won-woo became an awakened guide called a ‘Purifier.’

He became a being with great power, not only capable of guiding beyond ranks but also able to take away the power of Espers.

As a result, in Won-woo’s world, Espers and ‘Purifier’ were hostile to each other.

An endless war against the Espers ensued.

Won-woo lost all his comrades who fought alongside him and became alone.

Then one day,

Won-woo encountered a thick fog and met a dying version of himself from another world.

The request from his other-world self was “Please live here in my place.”

“I’m glad. Although it’s a life I’ve ruined, you should be able to endure well.”

Accepting this, Won-woo crosses over to that world and becomes another ‘Ji Won-woo’…

*

‘Everyone is alive.’

To his surprise, in this world, all his comrades who had died were still alive.

Won-woo goes to find them and uses his abilities to help, and in the process, he encounters ‘Gye Yoon’, the ruler of the North.

‘It’s because of those eyes. Those identical eyes.’

But strangely, every time he saw him, someone came to mind…

In one word, PERFECT. It gives me the strong MC I want. There are good and bad characters who know what they want and act accordingly. The interaction between the MC and ML and the smut scenes are the icing on the cake. (English is not my native language.)

All I can say is that it’s really good. I didn’t think I would like it this much, but I do. The story itself is mostly about Wonwoo (MC) addressing his past regrets and saving his loved ones, but there’s also some conspiracy in the background.

Aside from the plot, Wonwoo’s backstory is also really well done. We get a sense of why he is so rigid and inexpressive, which is most due to trauma of not just losing his loved ones, but going through a war where everything is a... more>> danger to him.

What touched me most was his past with Gye Yoon (ML). Wonwoo feels reluctant to accepts his love because of his guilt, but their relationship continued to be really good. Gye Yoon himself is the ‘I hate anyone but you’ type, and he really loves MC. <<less

I almost dropped this. But I forced myself to go through with it because of the high ratings.

And now I'm here, teary eyed, 4AM not having slept a wink, so pissed it ended 😭 ❤️

This was such a great story. The characters are awesome. The plot is plotting (and even certain things were answered, and comes full circle, where in other stories, it would have just been hand waved away without explanation). AND THERE'S EXPLICIT SCENES LIKE HELL YEAH

The translations aren't perfect, which makes the prose a bit clunky. But... more>> the essence of the story is there. And it's beautiful.

There's a lot of action. Some tragedy. A whole lot of love. Revenge. More action.

I'm honestly so sad it ended. It was a beautiful ending but dayum what I wouldn't give to have some more fluffy extras beyond the perfectly wrapped ending.

I don't know if I'll have the patience to reread this again, but I know I'll definitely enjoy it if I ever come back to it. <<less

As much as I liked the book, it ultimately felt incomplete to me, and the ending didn't leave me satisfied. I kept trying to read between the lines, looking for a turning point for the MC, especially since he seemed so deeply entangled in his past and his regrets, never really living in the present.

Spoiler

I honestly thought the story would build toward that moment of change, since it felt like it was being set up as a major turning point---- but it never happened. The MC continued to live solely for the sake of making the people around him happy, and not once did it feel like he was doing anything for himself.

Even toward the end, when the ML starts connecting the dots about the "aunt" Wonwoo mentioned, it felt abrupt and underexplored. Up until the very end, the MC never truly let go of his past, nor was he ever fully honest with the ML. While one could argue that this is because the present Yoon is not the same Yoon from his past life, it still feels lacking. The fact that he kept such important parts of himself hidden---- including the truth about the aunt---- made me question the depth of his love for the ML. To me, love should involve being able to lay your heart bare, and that never really happened here (though that might also be my bias from reading Chinese novels that emphasize that kind of emotional openness and tenderness).

We, as readers, know so much about the MC, but his partner only knows very little about him. One could argue that Yoon chose not to ask or dig deeper out of consideration, so as not to make the MC uncomfortable. However, in the end, the decision not to open up still lies with the MC, who kept his heart guarded and never fully allowed himself to be vulnerable. If this kind of characterization were given to the ML instead, I'm certain many readers would criticize him for not verbalizing his feelings and for never truly opening up. It likely wouldn't be received as leniently. Perhaps it's also because the story is predominantly uke-centered that this dynamic is more easily accepted.

I really wish these aspects had been explored more. The romance was already established, but the emotional depth and the MC's personal closure were not given the same level of attention. It's a shame, because the story had so much potential. I'd like to believe that the MC truly loved the ML, but he never explicitly expressed it to him the way the ML did. Even in the moments when he did say it, there was a sense of uncertainty---- his own POV didn't provide any strong self-realization or emotional weight behind those words. It almost felt as if they were said simply to label or justify their physical relationship.

The closest indication we get of his feelings comes from his physical reactions and flustered responses to the ML's suggestive remarks, which ultimately brings everything back to their s*xual dynamic. Because of that, it feels like what they had---- at least from the MC's side--- was rooted more in physical intimacy than in emotional connection. While one could argue that his lack of rejection or discomfort implies love (and that may very well be the case), it often came across more as dependency or a fear of abandonment rather than a fully realized, emotionally grounded love in MC's side. And that, more than anything, adds to the overall sense of incompleteness for me.

For most of the story, the only thing that seemed to distinguish the ML from others was their physical relationship, since the MC treated everyone on "his side" with the same level of care. Because of that, the romance felt somewhat bland to me, with s*xual intimacy acting as the main driving force. Personally, I didn't enjoy reading their s*x scenes much either because not ones did I feel love and tenderness in their s*xual interc**rse and the words shared in between in the MC's side and even the ML sometimes, as it focused more on dominance and control rather than tenderness---- at least until the very end.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the plot, and many of my questions were answered. But the MC's emotional closure, especially regarding his past life, remained unresolved, which left the story feeling unfinished.

Way better than I was expecting. Its SAMK though, so I should've known better.

A main character who is portrayed as cold and calculating, experienced in war and understands the losses one suffers after such an event? And make the first thing he does when he comes into a new world be to find the companions he'd lost so he could try to save them in this world?

Truly, a beautiful and great buildup of character from chapter 1. And he just stays like that.

He understands what he needs to do, what... more>> needs to happen. He understands that people die in times of war and he isn't scared to be the one to kill. But he feels each loss so heavily. His previously cold exterior gives way to how sensitive and caring he actually is, he just pulls from his past experiences and regrets and does what he needs to do to right the wrongs that should have never happened.

The banter and flirting, the sensual way ML treats MC. The way everyone is so tired of ML, but is willing to die for MC.

The question, "why did Gye Yoon leave you alone?" Having SUCH a desperate undertone and demanding an answer to questions the asker had no right to ask.

I love this novel so much. <<less

I really loved this novel. If you're coming in expecting a classic guideverse focused on monsters and world-building, this might not be for you, it's much more centered on revenge and power struggles between influential esper families. But honestly, that's part of what made it so compelling to me.

The romance was also a huge highlight. The chemistry between the two main characters, ... more>>

, was really strong, and the smut was well written and fit naturally into their relationship.

I especially appreciated that for once in a guideverse the ML wasn't toxic at all and didn't sleep with other guides before meeting the MC. Guideverse playboy MLs are honestly exhausting, so this was very refreshing.

The side characters were also really endearing, particularly the ML's sister and Director Hwang.

If I had a few criticisms, they would mostly be about the structure. The multiple POVs, especially in the first part of the novel, sometimes felt unnecessarily long and, at times, pointless. I also think this choice weakened the suspense, since knowing what the villains were thinking (and how blindly confident they were) reduced that sense of tension. On top of that, there was far too much focus on the MC's ex, who didn't bring anything meaningful to the story.
Spoiler

His s*x scenes with Idan, though thankfully not very frequent, felt completely unnecessary.

That said, overall this book felt like a comfort story for the MC and a genuine second chance for the ML, which I really appreciated. Despite its flaws, I truly enjoyed reading it and would definitely recommend it. <<less

why so low rating!! This one deserves recognition more.

Personal rating: 4.5/5

Firstly, The translator (s) did a wonderful job.

  • Power couple
  • Esper - Purifier dynamics
  • The story isn't about righteous morale, more about personal surving.
  • Interesting schemes to destroy enemies
  • Cried so many times reading the pasts.
  • I love the side characters.

The story plot is amazing. The MC deserves the happiness. Sometimes I think the MC of this world, how miserable he was. Unpopular opinion but the ML is cute (but only for MC haha) . I wish I could see the power manifestation of hwan but it wasn't mentioned till the end. She is cute.

But after finishing it I think it could have been better in many places. Some side characters are mentioned so many times, but still not elaborated. Like the character Idan. Also some characters were given too much attention like that swung wook (I forgot the name, whatever that annoying water esper) and his friend (the A rank esper leader) . There were potential to introduce so many amazing characters and their stories. Even though there were so many people, But after finishing the novel, it feels like the story was only about MC and ml. This is also the first time where I skipped smut scenes in the novel.

Wow, fantastic story.

I enjoyed it alot. I love spins on guide/sentinel stories. And I love how OP the main character is. Also the author has a really tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, which balanced the super tragic and darker themes of the novel very well.

There were lots of twists and turns and the story was very immersive to read, with excellent pacing. Each stage of the plot development was handled well and the characters went through gro

I'm a huge fan of OP MC / ML or power couple style stories. And... more>> this MC is super OP!

Spoiler

Arguably way more OP than the ML. And I loved how the ML was untraditionally younger/needy/more emotional etc.

MC is kind of a tsun.

Also the villains had some interesting skills and kind of had to be OP themselves as well

I enjoyed reading the novel. I like the fact that wonwoo was written strong and that yoon was man enough to let his partner be himself. I wish there were more side stories. Will miss them both. And the chicken.

This is closer to 4.5/5 for me in terms of plot and world building. There are not that many novels that can make guides really powerful and I love that this novel managed to do it in a very refreshing way.

I love the MC and ML's interactions and I like that they were both OP. I love OP pairings. Still, I don't like their s*x scenes very much. This is the main reason why I can't give this novel 5 stars.

The author tried to make it romantic but it's full... more>> of coercion and one-sided dominance of ML. I feel very uncomfortable reading it since it's like the author was really just forcing feelings on MC. I don't know why authors liked making MLs so domineering in bed without any regard for their partner's will, without stopping to even ask if their partners were really fine. This isn't the first novel I've read with this problem so I can't even say much. Anyway, I'm not saying the bed scenes were awful. Some scenes were actually quite sweet and hot. However, the sweetness was overshadowed by the ML's coercion and power.

Also, the ending was quite abrupt. I know the story was simply wrapping up but there were still so many things to say!!

Spoiler

How about Nani?? Nobody told MC about Nani yet! And what happened to the Ji siblings?? How about other pairings? The only other pairing in this novel is that Seung-wook (don't remember the spelling) and Idan, but we all know it's not going to last! Like, are there really no other remotely interesting guide in their world aside from Won Woo? Anyway, I probably just want everyone to have their own partners so they will not covet our Won Woo anymore.

[collapse]

Despite everything, I still like this novel a lot. I love strong MCs so that's probably one of the reason. <<less
