Ten years ago, Yoon Seo saved the world under the name Seo Chaeyoon, but now lives as an anonymous hunter.

He plans to die immediately after fulfilling all the last wishes of his deceased comrades, but these wishes, like “3 million squats,” “catching ten 9-kg sea breams,” and “baking 10,000 chocolate crack cookies,” are making it very difficult for him to commit su*cide.

One day, Seok-yeong, a world-renowned large guild, merges with Yoon Seo’s guild and forms a team with several hunters.

Kwon Ji-han, the world’s top hunter whom Yoon Seo meets in the team, immediately recognizes that Yoon Seo is special and approaches him.

Although Yoon Seo initially dislikes Kwon Ji-han due to his arrogant first impression, he soon realizes that Kwon Ji-han is a righteous and good person.

Yoon Seo, who abandoned justice long ago, feels frustrated and depressed when he sees Kwon Ji-han.

The past from ten years ago keeps resurfacing.

Kwon Ji-han keeps catching his eye.

Will Yoon Seo be able to fulfill the last wishes and die peacefully?

Absolutely amazing. A dungeon novel that is thrilling, engaging, dramatic, comedic, logical. A rare Korean novel where romance is soft, gradual, with no forcing and no misunderstandings. A catharsis at the end of the suffering.

A true gem of a story. Another one into my list of respectful, gentle, honest relationships.

If I could, I’d rate this novel 4.5/5 because it’s very good! The MC’s trauma is really well done. I would have loved it if the trauma came up/impacted the story even just a little more, but it absolutely is one of the best depictions of survivors guilt and PTSD. The trope of the strong person wanting to live quietly and the “righteousness” of that is also a plot point instead of ignored or brushed off which is really nice.

The ML didn’t immediately captivate me and I still don’t personally... more>> like younger MLs that much (especially with this specific age gap) but he grew on me and by the end I adored him. The overall plot is simple and satisfying, if hard to really grasp at times, but the MC was just as lost as me so I was fine with that lol.

Slight spoilers but def click if you’re on the fence

Spoiler

The main couple get together at the very end of the novel, but imo the side stories make up for this as you still get ~40 chapters of them together!

I absolutely love this novel. It has just the right amount of angst, fun and action. The world building is also nice. I also love the interactions of MC and ML.

It's a novel that will surely make you cry - or maybe it's more accurate to say "bawl your eyes out". Still, the sweet moments make up for the emotional damage.

It's also fortunate that the manhwa is just as good as the original (at least so far). The artist really knows how to portray the characters' emotions and... make the... more>> reader cry. (At this point I don't know anymore whether the original or the adaptation made me cry more but damn, my head literally hurts from it. I'm so ruined that I can't even look at the cover/title without shedding tears. It's like a conditioned reflex.)

Spoiler

I'm not sure if it counts as spoiler but better be safe than sorry. Their relationship is more of a slow burn from a readers point of view - although it may be because I read the censored version? Still, the romance is more of a side quest and they only got together towards the end (I wanted to see more of their relationship but I had to accept the harsh reality.) While reading, I had to constantly remind myself that from their point of view, barely a few months have passed since their first meeting and things were quite complicated because of Yoon Seo's identity, mental state and all the drama concerning the second Great Dungeon. It's more like a "I don't want you to die. - Well, I won't let you sacrifice yourself either."- kind of relationship. Still, it's cute, lovely, sweet and a bit angsty. I love this couple.

Please don't mind my rambling nor my questionable grammar. Just read the story, you won't regret it. :)

The worst part of the story is that it's not long enough. I could have read 200 more chapters and still crave more of it. I became attached. Also, it's a happy ending, so don't be afraid. :) <<less

After finishing the novel, I can surely say that this is definitely one of my favorite BL series of all time. If you love a power couple, then this is for you because both the MC and ML are so overpowered to the point no other characters are nearly half as powerful as them. The dark humor of dying teammates giving MC their last wills never failed to cracking me up until it suddenly hit me with full-blown depression a moment later, so this is pretty triggering for anyone with... more>> suicidal thoughts.

The plot is really good, the dynamic between MC and ML are my favorite too, the character developments are so good, and since the one that I read is not R18 (I've heard from some people that there are R18 version but I'm not sure since I haven't found them and I couldn't check in ridi either since I wasn't adult verified yet) I sometimes forgot that I was reading a BL series and so the story doesn't feel rushed at all—great for you slow-burn lovers! I also love the unique characteristic of the hunter in this series: "only people with kindess and justice in their hearts can be choosen to be a hunter", a very refreshing concept for hunter series.

I also recommend reading the manhwa too, because the artist really doing a very amazing job at adapting the novel. And on top of that, the manwha is R18 sooo I can only say that I'm really looking forward for the manhwa because I can finally see the *things* I couldn't see in the novel;) To be honest, the only thing I dislike about this novel is that it's not long enough (lol). <<less

Really liked it, at the beginning the ML might seem too pushy arrogant and insensible but, since he IS a good guy, once he fully realizes what he did he regrets his mistakes and then the couple is just adorable, they care for each other openly, comfort when needed, flirt and go through great lenghts to make sure the other is fine. Thought the most you'll see them do (romance oriented) is ogle, hold hands and, at the end, kiss and cuddle a little.

Spoiler

Love the fact that the ML went berserk, and got rid of a labyrinth, when he got to know that MC almost died from protecting the others.

Of course, my guilty pleasure is how ML got separation anxiety with the MC to the point where he had to go to conseling and get meds. I mean, it is adorable and sadly realist at the same time after what the MC did to him in the dungeon.

[collapse]

The plot is interesting, specially how only good people can become awakened gives it a fresh air, and the plot twist at the end is quite refreshing because it makes you feel like they can come back/keep having more adventures, eventhough you know they wont because its the end. (Maybe the author wanted to leave that door open? Dunno).

Also, the fact that the author kinda broke the fourth wall in the side stories was fun, like, who knows? Maybe the fact that the genre of hunters is so popular now REALLY is a clue left by the aliens that want to make sure we are psychologically prepared for what is to come in the future.🤔🤷🏼‍♀️

Another thing that is unique of this work is how it looks like the author actually made his/her reseach of the sci-fi part. In here, humanity doesnt stop their scientific research just because something like a magical system appears, they try to understand through physics and scientific theories what is going on and keep developing their own things to, one day, be even more advanced than the system by their own hands and achievements. (Commendable really how the antimatter bombs, and time space theories are applied with their own explanations)

In clonclusion, I totally RECOMMEND it. <<less

Such a fun novel. It starts off with pretty heavy stuff, but treats it with humor while still somehow taking it seriously... It has the right amount of everything... no, seriously, a healthy dose of each: fluff and angst, hurt and comfort, humor and serious moments... As for the characters, such a fun cast!!!! the side characters are very colorful and well-presented!!! I love the MC, he's such a dumbass lmfaoo it's so cute how he's all like 'no I hate ppl I hate justice I hate everything' (maily bcz... more>> of trauma) but he gets attached to ppl easily and has a soft spot for well-meaning idiots and gives in easily (now I'm acting like the ml), meanwhile ML is just... deceivingly intimidating at first sight but he just acts like a housewife basically... imagine u bought a husky just for it to have a golden retriever temperament mixed in... it's a slow burn but since the ML is so clingy they've been domestic for a long time... haven't finished reading but so far on vol.4 and I'm loving it!!! <<less

It's really good but I'm getting SO angry at them pushing him around however they want. "Ooh we need to treat him nicely and win him over" they say as they manipulate and put him in danger for their own purposes.

Also most of the skill names are not included in the translation so you have to parse through what's happening. I suspect there system windows also being excluded because everyone will suddenly react to something unknown and then the next chapter talks about it as if we were supposed to... more>> know what a certain system window said. <<less

I’ve only read the adaptation so far but it’s fairly humorous and interesting. The angst is top tier and the MCs relationships with the other characters are so funny!! I have read like the crumbs of different chapters from all over the place and I need more rn.

I am desperate to find where I can read the novel!!! I have searched through the depths of the internet but to no avail and I am practically begging when I ask for someone to give me the link so that I can... more>> read it. Love! I usually don’t like stories where the character hides their powers because it’s usually for a dumb reason or to make humorous situations, but this was not like that at all. The more you learn about the MC the more you just want to give him a hug.

Some pros or unique things I liked:

- Powers are only awarded to “good people.” Aside from the philosophical implications of this, it sets the stage for good people sacrificing themselves for the masses. And since they’re good people, they believe it’s a... more>> noble sacrifice. I thought it added a unique spin on a common trope.

- Portrayal of mental illness. Medication isn’t stigmatized like I’ve seen elsewhere, and the ML does a great job being supportive without taking away the MC’s agency. Not your typical “their mental illness was cured with the power of love” which was more realistic and refreshing.

- The ML is very earnest and basically word-vomits everything he’s feeling. He’s always quick to apologize and recognize when his emotions are illogical but still tries his best. Very cute.

- Sci-fi elements. As a scientist I have a love-hate relationship with sci-fi (google is right there) but this author did enough research to where I wasn’t annoyed.

- Made me cry. This is a personal metric that adds a star to my rating, but I probably would have rated 5 stars anyways so this is a bonus point.

- Both of them are super strong so there’s no power imbalance.

The only con is that the first time around I tried to read it at the same time as “Hunter wants to lay low” and the premise is so similar that I kept getting them mixed up. They diverge later but my small brain couldn’t handle it. <<less

SOO good!! I loved the story (it's so interesting and well written), and absolutely adored the characters and their dynamics! This story has all the tropes I love (probably why I like it so much) and it has the perfect mix of angst and sweetness. Honestly my only dislike were the side stories (SPOILER I think adding the other planets and stuff made it a tad too much) but other than that a definite 5/5! Definitely gonna reread this because it really is just a perfect mix of some of... more>> my fav concepts in BL/stories! <<less

Probably one of my favourite novels. I found the manhwa first, enjoyed it a ton and then decided to read the novel. It's an absolute masterpiece.

The story focuses on Yoon Seo (Seo Chaeyoon), one of the only 2 people that returned alive from the most catastrophic dungeon that appeared 10 years before the story starts. He has lost 1201 companions to that dungeon, and many of them have left weird wills to him (making him bake absurd amounts of cookies, knit sweaters, do squats,...). These wills are the reason he... more>> continues living. After he healed from his injuries, he has gone into hiding. The whole world thinks of him as a hero, wants him to reappear in the spotlight, to help the new hunters fight.

To Seo Chaeyoon, everything is bothersome. He wishes only to finish all the wills so he can die peacefully. Death is all he cares about.

The world's (new) strongest hunter, Kwon Jihan, and his organisation are actively looking for the hero who's been in hiding for 10 years. Because of this, Yoon Seo gets to meet Kwon Jihan, rethink his values (while also making Jihan think about his own), help save the world, and finally find his own peace.

To me this story sticks out because of the way Yoon Seo's mental health is portrayed. He doesn't simply fall in love and is all better. Through the entire story he has many ups and downs and it's all part of the process of him (very slowly) getting better.

Another thing that sticks out is the discussion of values. Jihan and Yoon Seo have completely different views of the world and often discuss them. Jihan believes those with strenght have a duty to protect the weak. Seo wonders why the strong should always sacrifice themselves. They both seem like such developed characters with distinct thoughts and internal conflicts that they try to solve as the story goes on. Both of them change a lot, and to me as a reader those changes were beautiful to see. The many discussions of what is good or right, if the strong should have a sense of duty to protect the weak, and if it's okay to judge a strong person for not sacrificing for the weak, actually make you think deeply about those ideas.

The side characters were also wonderfully written, with actual personalities and recognizable traits, both likeable and unlikeable, and were meaningful to the plot. Soobin, Hong Euiyoon, Soo Jaehee, Hwashim, Juncheol, Alec... but also the heroes of the past: Domin, Kangjin, Rita, La Bijina,... they all held much importance, were dependable friends to Seo, Jihan, and to eachother, and all felt like characters who had real lives outside of the main pair's story. I loved how so many things involving these characters came full circle at the end.

Overall, this novel ticks all the boxes. There are little to no plot holes, and all the things that seem strange throughout the novel are explained and make sense in the end. I liked the ending a lot, and I find that the author made use of the now-often-seen setting in their own way.

Tbh, the only bad things about this novel are that Jihan might be just a tad bit too perfect, and that it's got a bit of that extreme nationalism which is often the case in Asian novels that deal with international stuff (for example, in the novel, Korea is the country with the strongest, longest-standing Awakened organisation which has branches all around the world; during the dungeon Seo participated in 10 years before, most of the participating hunters were Korean; Korea is basically the center of the world in the story because they have the highest number of high-ranks... but all in all it's not too bad aside from those few points).

This is a story that deals with a lot of tough themes, but has characters you can't help but cheer on, and a satisfying, happy ending. <<less

I liked it. The story is a typical Korean dungeon novel type. While reading the story, I felt like it was a combination of ORV and The Hunter’s Gonna Lay Low.

The overall pacing is good, it's not too dragging. I binged read it and I didn't even realize that I was done with the story lol.

Regarding the MC and ML. It's really refreshing to see an ML that isn't a "cold, " "mysterious, " or "solemn" type. The ML is younger, c*cky (because he's super strong but isn't unreasonable enough... more>> that you will hate him), childish but is also very responsible, committed to justice, and wears his heart on his sleeve.

MC has PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc, because of what happened to the great dungeon, which is very reasonable. Which also made him recluse, cold, and with no will to live... BUT as the story progresses, I love how he changed slowly. Not the type where you can say like "Wow, his character went to 360% of change, " but the type where you can see his growth, how his mind changes throughout the novel, and his resolve.

I also like how there's no usual backstory that relates them like htey met when they're young or something lol.

Overall, the story is great, the pacing is great, the characters are good, and the ending is good. :) <<less

I loved the way they wrote their relationship. Their familiarity with each other and the way that they fit together so easily and how caring the ML is was great.

The novel had me crying at some points and it was bitter sweet. I really liked how they dealt with the MC being suicidal and they weren't trying to force him to live due to guilt, but instead it was them being a constant presence in his life that led to a change in the MC. Definitely one of my favorites.

~3.5. Strong premise, but the writing/humor/character development wasn't super gripping for me. I kept reading bc I knew there would be payoff/ a happy ending. The world development isn't very interesting for how much of it there is. Just too much uninteresting skill info dump.

Big pro is they're together a lot and have a bunch of lovey dovey time. Both the MC and ML have hobbies outside of hunting (gasp!) and the cooking is suuupppeerr cute.

Warning: Get your tissues ready, because this novel will make you cry (or at least break your heart).

(I'll comment based on the main story, up to chapter 170)

Major spoilers within tags

... more>> I Delayed my Death Because of a Will has a very well-developed MC and ML, a simple plot (sometimes a bit empty) but well-constructed. Great worldbuilding and an angst that kills. I laughed out loud at times and cried at others, it's a roller coaster of emotions.

In general, it's a very good novel, with a focus more on the emotional journey than on the action. However, I had some problems with the pacing and the side characters (I'll explain later).

  • Protagonist:
Yoon Seo is literally the focus of the narrative, so he's an extremely complex and deep character. He changes throughout the novel, but still maintains his essence.

Spoiler

His desire to save not the weak, but the good people echoes in his heart from the beginning, and it's beautiful to see this reaffirmed in the grand finale.

[collapse]

His mental health is very delicate and well written. His survivor's guilt is painfully real to read, and the healing process is slow and consistent. This is exactly what the novel is about, so the attention to these aspects is very generous.

It's simply beautiful to see the gradual process of his healing. Painful? Awfully, the more we get into the protagonist's mind, the more agonizing it is, but it's so rewarding to see him slowly freeing himself.

I love how the ML wasn't his cure. He was a great catalyst, of course, but it's not a case of "I just want to live because of him", he helped Yoon Seo remember how little things can bring happiness
Spoiler

alongside the former Revengers

[collapse]
and was by his side until he was able to accept that happiness. So he helped a lot, but the healing is entirely Yoon Seo's own merit.

  • Male Lead:
Speaking of him, our ML (Kwon Jihan), like Yoon Seo, is complex and grows throughout the narrative. It's noticeable the difference that Yoon Seo and Kwon Jihan had in each other's lives, reaching a good balance in the end. He may seem a little shallow at first, but then he blossoms. He only starts to have a strong presence in chapters +60, but it's worth it.

  • Romance and main couple:
They are very cute. The romance only starts in chapter 72, and even then it's quite slow. And they only officially get together after the end. It was a well-constructed and reciprocal romance, Kwon Jihan was not only used as a step for Yoon Seo's healing, he gained a lot of personal growth from it too. The two helped and influenced each other, opposing and conflicting ideologies that in the end merged and balanced each other.

  • Worldbuilding:
The worldbuilding is very consistent and diverse.

(Did I notice any similarities with ORV? Yes, but I won't comment on that in depth, since I haven't finished ORV yet and I'm not even sure if, for example, this idea of

patrons really started with it. To me it seemed more like an inspiration than a copy, but whatever).

But one thing is for sure, I've never seen a novel try to explain a fantasy setting with science. This was totally different from anything I've ever seen. I think it's cool how humanity developed items, gadgets and other technologies based on the system. Humanity applied the laws of physics to study these phenomena and was successful. Normally, this kind of system appears as something that no one understands or can explain, where no logic is applied, but not in this novel. It's an element of fantasy that goes hand in hand with science. It becomes a mix of fantasy and sci-fi. And that's pretty innovative.

As someone with very little knowledge of space or quantum physics, I didn't understand much of this more theoretical part, buuut the novel simplifies what is really important for us, mere mortals, to understand. Don't be alarmed by this.

I just wish they had explained
Spoiler

Kwon Jihan's different skills better (the thing about leveling up and skills that didn't unlock because they weren't at maximum level) and explored the market and experience points more.

[collapse]

  • Plot:
The plot is very simple. It revolves around the protagonist's mental health. The Great Dungeon case and the mysteries of the universe/Gaia system exist, but they are just a backdrop for the plot to move forward. What is really the core of the story is the protagonist's healing process.

We don't have any subplots happening, not even the Great Dungeon has much of a focus other than the psychological effects it had on the protagonist. This, for a novel with 170 chapters, is really quite empty (and here we get into the problem of pacing, which I will discuss later). However, the plot has a very solid foundation that held up very well from beginning to end. It is simple, but well executed.

I was just a little upset with
Spoiler

the Galaxia cultists. They appeared out of nowhere and did absolutely nothing to become obstacles. At most, they were used for the protagonist's personal growth. I thought they would at least get in the way of the situation a little, but no. They didn't help extraordinarily either. In the end, they were just kind of thrown into the middle of the plot.

And the thieves from The Hunt who also appeared, tried to steal Riceball, died and no one ever talked about them again.

[collapse]

I was afraid the ending would be rushed, but the conclusion was very good, a little anticlimactic, but given the novel's proposal, that's how it should have happened.

Spoiler

Like, the final challenge, the great danger to humanity, was resolved in one paragraph with a deus ex machina skill. It's pretty anticlimactic, but at least they gave a little foreshadowing that he had that creator trait. Besides, as I said, the novel's proposal was never to focus on the Great Dungeon, but on the MC's struggles.

[collapse]
And that epilogue hurt me more than it should have.

  • Angst:
My heart broke with this novel. Every time a memory of the Revengers came up, I felt my heart shattering, especially when I realized the meaning of the wills. When there was the big flashback, I realized this and cried so much lol. The epilogue also almost killed me completely.

Spoiler

Yoon Seo's self-deprecating thoughts, the way he tried at all costs not to make himself happy, the palpable relief he felt when he thought about his death...

[collapse]
it's just pain. And it's a bittersweet pain that doesn't end with the end of the novel. There's no magic solution that revives everyone and everyone lives happily. They died.

Spoiler

They sacrificed themselves to save the youngest, even though he was the strongest among them.

Lee Kangjin, who didn't think about postponing the black portal so that Yoon Seo would have a chance to conquer in the future, on the contrary, he wished him peace and tranquility. In the last moments, all he thought about was his two little brothers T^T

[collapse]

  • Pacing:
Here we get into a problem. The pacing is a bit weird. Sometimes it's too fast, sometimes it's extremely slow. It's like someone was playing a video at x2, x1 and x0.5 alternately. So the pace is a bit messy.

Some things that could have been given more attention and detail are summarized in sentences, and weeks go by in less than a paragraph. Some shocking plot twists towards the end were done too quickly, with revelations and acceptances in 2 chapters or less.

Other things drag on for too long unnecessarily, like some action scenes. It's nice to see that the other characters are contributing with skills and support, but spending half a chapter mentioning all these actions just for the sake of it is a bit too draggy. Literally, if you skip these scenes, nothing is lost, and if you read them, nothing is added either.

There is a hurt/comfort "arc" from chapters
Spoiler

72-133.

[collapse]
It's the most crucial period for the protagonist's healing, but there are too many chapters for ONLY THAT to happen. There are 60 chapters (more than 1/3) of the novel IN A ROW of pure hurt/comfort. This could have been balanced, interspersed with other interesting subplots, but no.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved all the fluff that happened and it was indeed necessary for the sake of the MC's mental health, but it was such an abrupt change in pacing and devoid of anything else happening that it became a bit too draggy (especially with the high expectation of what was to happen later on).

In the beginning, it was a balanced pacing, with the mysteries surrounding the protagonist and the world being revealed little by little. Then, we entered this extremely slow arc of hurt/comfort. And finally, an ending that alternated between fast and medium. All this inconsistency affected my experience a lot.

  • Side characters:
Except for the MC and the ML, the characters are very flat. They are fun and have well-defined personalities, but they are left out a lot. They fulfill their roles in the novel, but they could have been used in a much better way. Characters that seemed like they would have a big focus (Park Soobin, La Bijina, the temporary team members, Lee Domin and Lee Kangjin) only had a few appearances.

Spoiler

La Bijina had so much potential to be important, as the only survivor besides the MC, but she only appears in two scenes, and in one of them she barely interacts.

Park Soobin was the most active character in the beginning, but after chapter 72 he was practically forgotten. He made an appearance here and there, but nothing really relevant. It seemed like a 'love triangle' would happen because he had shown feelings towards Yoon Seo, but this was never brought up again. It would be nice to see him realizing that his love was unrequited and how he would deal with it, but it was simply left in oblivion.

The temporary team, with hidden and mysterious abilities, after the MC's identity was revealed, they (except Hong Euiyoon and Hwashim) were completely forgotten. They only appeared to make up the numbers at the end. Why were they hiding? What were their secrets? No one knows.

Even Hong Euiyoon, the one who appeared the most, was kind of left aside. He seemed to have a personal issue of hating and admiring Seo Chaeyoon, but in the end that was reduced to nothing. He didn't have a redemption phase. He just found out and was like "oh my god, my bad... friends, right?" and magically stopped being an arrogant jerk. I wanted to see more of him, but he also only appeared once in a while just to show that there were still side characters in the novel.

Soo Jaehee had a lot of potential to be a character very close to Yoon Seo, like a little brother, but he only appeared to support the narrative when Kwon Jihan couldn't.

Lee Domin and Lee Kangjin are the 'ghosts that haunt the narrative', but we don't see many memories that make us empathize with them so much. It's tragic, it made my heart ache, but it didn't give me thaaaat absurd weight because we don't have enough details to build a connection with them. The information we have about them is very little, and if we put it together it would be about 2 chapters at most. That's too little for the characters that have the most impact in a 170-chapter novel.

[collapse]

The focus is entirely on the MC and the ML, leaving no room for any depth in these characters. The plot is empty enough to add more active participation from the characters, more details, backstories, and personal struggles, but it decides against it. So they are reduced to resources to fill gaps in the plot. And that's a shame.

Apart from these things, it's a great novel that deserves much more recognition. I highly recommend it.

(I recommend reading at least up to chapter 193 (the first side story) because it shows the aftermath and gives a better closure to the story) <<less

I liked it a lot. But the translation has issues and I have some things to say for those who are interested in reading it.

There’s a ton of stuff like messages and system windows missing from the translation. Basically anything that isn’t just plain text is missing. It’s not always a big deal like when it’s just “this person uses this skill”, but often there are very important things missing. Also, the chapters in the translation do not match the ones on Ridibooks because some are split and counted as... more>> a new chapter.

What I did was I had the MTL Ridibooks version open in one tab and the translation in the other and went back and forth as I read. It was a bit annoying but it was doable I guess. I’m not sure how you could read it without doing this, because you would really miss out on a lot and I think there would be a ton of stuff that doesn’t make sense.

I found the ending (during/after the black dungeon) pretty confusing. I think it was mostly because I had to MTL a lot of it since so much of it was missing from the translation, but it could also have been how it was originally written. It was a bit of a bummer because I really liked the rest of it. <<less

Its amazing. Im horrified that I almost let a few less positive reviews keep from reading this.

Yes, it's not extremely comedic. It has funny moments, but more than anything it's a story about human will prevailing. It's not too sad either, if you're worried about all the reviews mentioning angst.

The ML is not the average mindlessly possessive, mu*derous BL love interest. The MC is a glass canon that isn't completely OP and has failed, and the story explores how those failures weigh on him.

By far, this is the most in... more>> love BL couple that I've read about in a long time. It's really beautiful. <<less

I'm totally hyped. I love this novel so much. It's as emotional as Little Mushroom and as engrossing as Global Examination. Every chapter pulls at the heart strings in tune - first you laugh, then you cry, then you laugh again...

The story is very well wirtten and the translation by Rêverie de Fleurs is pure perfection (no MTL traces there).

Both main characters are three-dimensional, complicated and shaped by their past experiences, but they also change as the story develops and their bond grows.

The world of the novel is advanced but... more>> at the same time very human-like, with the bad and good it holds. And still when faced with danger and extinction it becomes humane and united. <<less

This is one of the best and most memorable BL Hunter stories I've ever read. Excellent world-building, interesting characters, just enough intrigue and the right amount of heart-wrenching moments.

I don't want to write much spoilers in this review because I recommend you experience the story yourself. Still, if I were to pick one plot point to discuss, it's the setting of "only good people can awaken as Hunters". Because of this, there's not much drama due to problematic awakeners. Majority of them are good people who will sacrifice themselves for... more>> the greater good. And that just makes their struggles so harrowing.

It's an amazing page turner to the point I forgot to eat while reading.

I picked this up not expecting much, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. This novel is amazing and well-written given it's sensitive and heavy subject matter, and keeps a wonderful balance of angst, fluff, comedy, and drama. I'm not one to get particularly emotional while reading, but this novel really grabbed me and pulled me in leaving me in near tears at some parts and laughing out loud at others.

My only complaint is that the translator seems to have left out parts of the novel like system notifications, skill names,... more>> and written letters/notices which leads to some awkward and confusing parts while reading because the characters will clearly be reacting to or talking about something, but we have no clue what it is. Thankfully that can be made up for by reading the manhwa adaptation, thankfully other comments mentioned the adaptation so I knew it existed and could find it otherwise I might have dropped the novel earlier on. <<less
