This novel is... okay.

In terms of potential, this could be a fantastic book thousands of years down the line, when he is an unparalleled cultivator facing mortals.

But, that has some caveats.

... more>> First of all, if this world turns into just the present day with Great Xia, Cherry Blossom Country, and Eagle Nation, this will be an absolutely garbage book. I'm not sure if it will develop down that line or pursue some other route of technological advancement. I'm really hoping for the latter.

Second of all, the main character needs a massive shift in personality. Right now, he is kind of a loser. Not in the cowardly, pathetic sort of way, but the weak-willed and slow-witted sort of way. He cultivates for two hours a day, doesn't bother getting better at other cultivation paths (such as alchemy, blacksmithing, etc), and also has quite the libido. The libido part is particularly annoying because the main character has mentioned more than once how much he likes prostit**es and how its not worth getting in a real relationship because he has prostit**es.

Frankly, I would love if this book were to develop in a dark way. If the main character were to learn the fragility of mortality and separate from them because of that, observing them from a corner, this would be amazing novel.

But, I highly doubt that.

Another note, the translation is pretty good, though it's not the best I've seen. Nothing worth taking points off. <<less

Originally I loved the concept but the problem is the MC is too nerfed... plus he gives up on complex professions too easily.

He has all the time in the world why not learn everything slowly and prioritise your main profession more it's not like cultivating more is going to make much of a difference...

Honestly... this would have worked better if he had at least some mediocre talent. Somebody with a limitless lifespan attempting to master all cultivator professions is much more interesting. You need to have an appetite befitting your... more>> potential after all.

MC on the other hand is still following the average cultivator path, no matter how much effort he puts into cultivating it will always be slow so instead he should stick to a very slow and steady routine, putting effort into other things instead that he is at least average at. <<less

This is just infuriating to read.

Spoiler

The MC has 2 people he's close with in his family, lin die (half sister) and lin ying (sister), he decides to just leave his family because "I have an infinite lifespan, I can't let them know", this itself would be fine is he, hundreds of years later is like a golden core cultivator and reunites with them, the main issue is that he does "reunite" with them, but for some f*cking reason 300 chapters in he's in the golden core realm, the author made him to pretend to be his own son like I genuinely don't understand, theres even an internal monologue saying that he really wants to reveal that he's himself and actually be with his family. I dropped at chapter 300 seeing that the author is dead set on MC concealing his identity forever.

other than that, the writing is good, the characters are interesting and have personality, so if you are fine with

the MC constantly concealing his identity with the people around him

This story has great potential, though at the current point it is too early to leave a rating. I'm going to leave one after continuing with mtl.

What I have to say so far: The novel delivers what is promises. The strong point are character interactions. The weak point ist world building. This would get 4 stars from me, but with a tendency toward 3.5 stars.

The translation so far is 5/5 stars. Nice is also a timer which shows a countdown to the next chapter.

The only issue is the site. The... more>> colour of the text is too light, though it can be migated with dark mode. The option to correct paragraphs is somewhat annoying and unnecessary. And for some reason I can't log in with my wordpress account.

Overall 4 stars.

Edit: I've continued with mtl and so far 4 stars holds true. Though considering this novel promises he will live to the current age and further the novel is too slow paced. Right now it is a typical cultivation novel, which is fine, but some issues are written in too great detail, though this could be me being impatient too see novel concept of things like the protagonist living past the cultivation age and living through all real ages afterwards. I'm also anxious how the author will handle the current age- after all chinese novels written during the current age are often ruined by racism. The protagonist helping China militarily or politically wouldn't make much sense as he is already much older than civilization by the time it begins to exist and has experienced many countries.

Seeing how the everything after the cultivation age will require much skill in writing I will rate this novel 3.5 stars. This seems to me the most likely prediction for the future of the novel. <<less

it's a good read for those familiar with CN cultivation-rot. If you aren't familiar, I think the first 100 chapters are good enough to read through, having the most of the author's creativity spent there.

  • Loving these:
  • Nice characterization.
The MC grows over time of the story (with his lifespan exceeding a million) alongside characters I think have matured and changed significantly throughout the series (until their deaths, of course).

The villains were good enough in the first half: there's the daily threat MC faces every day that differed unique enough; and... more>> that one genius cultivator whose presence made it gripping to read.

  • Plot
It's unique.

MC grows weak, even compared to others way below his age; utilizes tricks and some more for money and his life; he grows old, with new companions, gets into a sect, made friends, the sect grew and so did his friends; he left after the sect's demand between them or his family; there's a good amount of filler between all of these.

Spoiler

I especially recommend reading up until the Heavenly Dao Revival arc, it was a refreshing break from cultivation and what not. Like Frieren's Journey first chapters where we get to feel how the nigh-immortal felt when everything they knew passed away; that's how MC lived through those times, being the strongest in the non-Cultivation times and the loneliest there is among mortals. That arc was the heart strike arrow to me, breaking my last barrier making the preconceived notion of a "only tr*sh and nothing else" story become clear to me;...😭 man it was the heartbreak too.

[collapse]

  • Issues I see:
  • Later half plot becomes... unusual. That's what I can say at least; the author didn't seem to be able to foreshadow it enough for me to expect this. At the same time, it kinda lost the grip it made impact fully as I mentioned earlier (the mortals time) in terms of emotions. Of course, the characters do still get good enough growth and new characters came In the roster; but the fights became less exciting and more frequent. Well, MC eventually reaches the peak of the universe. It's... boredom from then on out
  • To me, MC at that point, lost a chunk of the depth he built up throughout his three hundred thousand years of life.
...7.4/10 in general.

6.3/10 for the later half.

8.3/10 for the first half.J

Just that arc between these two? 9.2/10. <<less
