In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a mu*derous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, “Scared?”

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!”

Jiang Baiyan: …?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, “The mansion in the western suburbs…if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?”

Shi Dai replied, “Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!”

Jiang Baiyan: …?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, “Don’t abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, “Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah.”

Jiang Baiyan: …?

He hasn’t finished his lines yet though…

You know that Yandere tag? I feel like this novel should also have an anti-Yandere tag added lol, because our FL Shi Dai is the boss at being an anti-Yandere creator.

This novel is both light and heavy, light in terms of plot (the mystery solving and character development is nicely done, the mysteries are fun, the fantasy aspect is there with hints of realism that make it feel like a lot of thought was put into it). The romance is heavy, and you get to really know both the ML... more>> and FL throughout the entire book. Their romance isn’t out of no where, there’s no real drama because Shi Dai will fist fight before she causes misunderstandings or allows them to bloom. She’s practical, sweet, a bit mischievous and spoiled, and all around an adorable and hard working girl. It’s pretty reasonable for Jiang Baiyan to fall for her.

Rather than labeling our ML as a Yandere, I’d label him similar to how Shi Dai does, a guy who has suffered a ton and has to learn to navigate the world with this twisted ideology. He’s a solid green flag despite his inner thoughts, his heart is in the right place at all times, and Shi Dai recognizes this. She’s good at reading people, and while the joke in the book might be her “strange interpretation” of him, I feel like she nails him to a T in terms of character. Their romance is freaking so tooth achingly sweet too. I’m talking several chapters worth each time the author smashes that yummy dog food into your face.

Shi Dai does what we all wish we could do for the tragic 2ML who just suffer and die alone in books for the main leads happiness. Give them the world and love them whole heartedly.

This is a solid 10/10 read, just like the author’s other works. Read it! <<less

I've completed reading the novel and I'd say, idk why this has low rating, especially the english translated chapters are still few. Imo, its rating should at least be 4.2. XD

Anyway, what I like most about this novel is the love progression between the FL and ML. It's neither too fast (like it feels out of the blue) nor too slow (that it's frustrating). The pace at which they developed feelings for one another is so smooth and perfect. Also, the ML has yandere thoughts but aware that FL probably... more>> won't like it so he kills such thoughts as much as possible. And he also communicates his feelings with FL!!

As for the FL, I really like her. She's not OP, but not useless either. She's straightforward and won't let any misunderstanding occur at all. Things that might potentially lead to misunderstanding, she will directly confront the ML about it. She's so honest about her feelings that there's no room for misunderstanding at all.

I also like each cases that they solve. They're basically like police with powers in historical settings. I like the mystery and the back story of each case they tackle. Although the overall story is less action and more romance. I mean, the actions aren't very detailed like those in other transmigration fantasy stories, but it's totally fine. Otherwise, it would just feels like the story is being drag.

All in all. This is a really good read! <<less

I don't know why the low rating, but this one is really good. I adore all the characters in the story. Everyone have their own charm and quirk and the story itself is solid.

And I love both Shi Dai and Jiang Baiyan so much. I wish all the happiness for them. And I wish there's more of the story after the ending. I want to see more of their life after all the angst. (TT v TT).

The progression of their love is really nice. The story itself isn't that... more>> long but each case is really interesting.

Spoiler

From all the case, my fav is still the first case. The climax of the story is really good that I can feel the desperation, and when the imagining of the family appear, I just burst out of tears. I'm glad you alive and helping a lot until the end.

[collapse]

The ending is pretty satisfying and it's really fitting.

Spoiler

Even though it's not the "woah" kind of fighting scene, MC and ML isn't the only focus and everyone have their own role in the ending and each of them is important. It's really warm my heart.

Also, that scene of JBY embroided the wedding dress and the way he describe her at the climax of Inner Demon world is my fav scene. It's just broke my heart

[collapse]

I just wish they make side story, because I want to read more of Shi Dai and JBY just being happy and lovey dovey in their everyday life. They both deserve it after everything. And also Ahli is the best. <<less
