Qi Xi is the beautiful, top ranking student of her law school. Her life could only be describe to be smooth sailing. But, the only thing that made her dissatisfied was her unpleasant rival, Gu Yan. Over the past 4 years as her classmate, Gu Yan robbed Qi Xi of countless opportunities and awards.

And just as she was about to speak on behalf of her class as Outstanding Graduate, Qi Xi received a letter from the expressionless Gu Yan… a confession letter that could only be compared to a form of s*xual harassment signed by the outstanding Gu Yan himself.

Qi Xi changed her graduation speech out of anger, starting with the confession letter. With a hearty and passionate speech, she called for society to respect women, and in the end she emphasized, “Gu Yan, you might have a crush, but it is a crime to confess like this! I’m someone you can’t catch up with in your life!”

However, after finishing the speech, Qi Xi discovered a terrible fact… at the back of the confession letter was a line, “roommate Zhang Jia Liang” put together, the true signature of the letter was, “Written by Gu Yan’s roommate Zhang Jia Liang”

The letter was not written by Gu Yan…

"She felt as though she shouldn't appear before Gu Yan and his girlfriend. Her existence was not legitimate. Gu Yan's tenderness, Gu Yan's time, Gu Yan's focused eyes... everything about Gu Yan did not belong to her, but instead to his girlfriend. Thus, every moment she was with him, she felt as though she was a thief" --Chapter 41

Before she began working as an intern at the law firm, Qi Xi's biggest enemy was Gu Yan--the one man who "stole" it all. He was the class's valedictorian, he was the... more>> most popular student at school, and teachers were absolutely impressed with him. Qi Xi only ever strove for perfection, so when Gu Yan came her way, she thought of him as nothing more than an annoying road block.

However, things change during the graduation ceremony. After Qi Xi mistakenly calls out Gu Yan for being unscrupulous, she embarks a journey she never thought she would take... impress Gu Yan and become best friends with him. Though she feels guilty, she realizes she has to go to the extreme because Gu Yan's strict sister is her boss. As long as she could keep her job, she was willing to do anything. Even if that meant downloading a fan-created "bible" that talked about all of Gu Yan's likes and dislikes.

As she goes through the "bible" to become friends with the cold-hearted Gu Yan, she never expects to see the other side of her most insufferable classmate. Yes, he was extremely cold and stinky... but hidden underneath it all is an innocent, yet lovable man. A man who is obsessed with durian, a man who could recite the Wikipedia page about his favorite rock band, a man who "pretends" to be regal, yet scarfs down the entire bento box when no one is looking...

And as she spends more and more time with him, she realizes just how lucky Gu Yan's crush is... and without knowing it herself, she falls for him. Hard, yet elegantly in the typical Qi Xi fashion. Because she doesn't want to be the villainous who destroys Gu Yan's life any further, she tries to keep distance... but will Gu Yan allow her? Especially since her debt to him still has not been paid off?

Like all of Ye Feiran's work, this novel is a mix of romance and comedy as two recently graduated lawyers navigate through work, love, and life. However, unlike her other novels where the main leads are OP, in this novel, the characters act age appropriate. They struggle as newbie lawyers despite being at the top of their class, but they learn and grow through the cases they get. For anyone who is currently interning or starting a new career path, you would find the characters to be very relatable as they make mistakes and learn from them.

Will update the review (and include spoilers) after the novel finishes. <<less

I'm halfway done, but I just had to login and make a quick review ahaha. One of the lawyer-y type of stories I loved was "Don't fall in love with the boss" No wonder I loved this sm since its by the same author lol. I would even say this one is an improvement but I love both very much

I loved Qi Xi's development. Seeing her fall for Gu Yan made me also fall and swoon for Gu Yan (unfortunately not real right?) What to say.. Qi Xi is... more>> extremely dense despite being intelligent but who can blame her when Gu Yan keeps things ambiguous

In comparison to her other work, I would say this is less cringe (less second-hand embarassment and less cheesy), more comedic and more romantic. There were tons of moment like the scene of them eating durian that were so genuinely funny. Scenes of them riding a bike together while talking about life and love despite being in suits that felt very romantic. I feel that they acted less as rivals and more like cats and dogs who were constantly tugging on each other. Qi Xi constantly makes attempts to get closer to Gu Yan--all of which are somewhat of a failure (or is it?).

UPDATE: Finished today

I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending.. I think there might be more but the ending left me hanging. Also because the proposal felt like a joke and felt so cheesy..

Spoiler

Out of all possible ways to propose just why did he have to use Jason Derulo's "Marry Me." ;;q;; ??

I love this writer and all her works! I have not started reading it as it only has 5 chapters right now, but really wanted to offset the negative ratings. I don't know why people rated it like that when the story has barely started?! I love enemy to lovers trope + this writer is an awesome combination. Translator - THANK YOU so much for picking this novel up! 😊

I dont know why people gave 3.9

The story is really good. I love how their relationship developed. How they were together for to resolve her issues in the end.

The ML already liked her from college days itself but she saw him as a rival. His confession failed and landing a misunderstanding from MC’s side. Later when they start working together after college, more the time MC spent with ML, she falls in love with him and she thinks he loves someone else.

Its a really funny, fluff and good read. Also... more>> there were some issues addressed (She faced as being a girl)

It was a good one. I have read other works from this author. This has less law related things than compared to other works from author <<less
