“You’re allowed to look at other people, but I will kill them. Remember that.”

“You are the first woman I’ve met who has beautiful wrinkles in her brain.”
Sherlock Holmes’s archenemy, the Napoleon of Crime. Professor James Moriarty.
“You didn’t expect me to come back to life? I shall not die, not even for you.” Cthulhu’s creator, Lovecraft’s other self. Her husband Randolph Carter appeared ten years after his death.
However, since she was given the task of hunting unknown, mysterious beings, so-called “monsters”, there was no time to think about love.
Time passed.

Every time she died and returned, memories that didn’t originally exist came back.

Emily Carter is called the most beautiful widow in London, and from her descriptions and the available art she definitely is. I love her courage, and I admire how she controls her fear (like when she met Moriarty) even when facing dreadful situations. She gets chosen as the apostle of the King in Yellow, through reading a book translated by her husband. The King gives her orders to kill certain monsters, and if she fails (and dies in the process) her time gets turned back. This sentence ("My apostle, I will turn back your time") feels a bit suspicious. Is the King only turning back her time? This isn't explained so it might be that it was just a translation thing. The trauma of dying so often and an almost unreliable memory must have affected her a lot, but we haven't gotten many scenes of those yet. I hope her previous deaths are elaborated on.
We have been introduced to almost all the MLs in the description. First, let's start with Henry. Henry Jekyll is so cute!!! I really like how he gets flustered easily, and it saddened me when Emily told him that she associated with him to gain access to supposedly haunted Room 333. Edward Hyde, however; he's an interesting contrast to Henry and while the connection to Henry's biological father is a bit disgusting, I'm genuinely interested to see how he and Emily interact. Especially because she believes him to be gone. However I can't say I would enjoy him being the confirmed ML.
Next we have James Moriarty. Unfortunately I am extremely biased because I love people like him. He's a well-known socialite, acknowledged by Helena. James pretends to be on the light side of the world, but is known as the Back-alley King secretly. I loved James and Emily's first meeting (aside from the two times he killed her) where Emily recognizes his voice and deciphers his last name. This is an interesting relationship because Emily is really scared of him. From a moral standpoint this is an obvious red flag-- no, it's a red banner. James is a criminal and killed Emily twice, but the King in Yellow urged her to ally with him, and Emily does so ("the enemy of the enemy is an ally"). Even though their relationship hasn't developed yet, I love the dynamic and really look forward to future chapters.
Finally, Randolph Carter. Randy is Emily's deceased husband and is already ahead in the game, as Emily said he was the only one she loved. From the flashbacks, he's a very sweet person who loves Emily a lot. A struggling writer, he delivered the King in Yellow's play to his wife ten years after his death. I'm convinced that translating this book led to his disappearance, as well as making him develop an alternate personality as Lovecraft's other self. There's barely any mention of that yet, so let's wait for future chapters.
Honorary ML: James Barry. James is a woman, but he prefers to live and be addressed as a man, so we'll do that. He's really cute, especially when he got between Moriarty and Henry to escort Emily, Their relationship is friendly and really wholesome <3 James wasn't mentioned in the description, so I don't think he will be a love interest.
