Description

The story begins with Shen Miao having been married twice with two ex-husbands. If you think that the story will be old-fashion revolving around the rivalry and jealousy of the two ex-husbands, then you are wrong. The story is really sweet and funny, with many twists and turns in the plot . It turned out that the two ex-husbands are actually staging a play together with a motive. Thus, Shen Miao who is clueless about it from beginning to end is in fact performing a monologue as no one gave her a script beforehand.

True feelings?

Fake feelings?

Who took advantage of her?

Who often protect her?

Who is willing to wait five years for her?

Who is willing to give up the throne for her?

I strongly agree with one of the reviewer. this shouldn't be tagged as comedy, instead it should be tagged as a tragedy. The funny part is only a lil bit at the beginning... after that which part can be said to be funny??

This novel surprised me because the summary describes the story as "sweet and funny, with many twists and turns in the plot"... well, it was right about the second part, but I don't know about "sweet and funny."

This is kind of a tragedy disguised as a comedy if you think about it...

MAJOR SPOILERS

the FL is in ancient china, so she doesn't have much freedom to determine her own life, and she's not a super-smart character who can see pits and traps beforehand. She spends most of this book oblivious, and she's a highly UNRELIABLE NARRATOR.

The premise is that our MC is the daughter of the wealthiest man in the city, and she's also the heir of a secret fortune that only she knows about. I feel bad for her cause she has no agency throughout the story and bad things happen to her through circumstances entirely out of her control.

Imagine this: you're a wealthy young mistress who spends your whole life reading fairytale novels and dreams about a marital hero to sweep you off your feet. Then your father engages you to some random scholar you've never met, and now you have to have marry/have s*x with this man. You're married for two years, and just when you're finally falling in love.. the emperor breaks up your marriage, and now your ex-husband is your "uncle." Then you're forced to marry another man you don't know. And two months later, you're pregnant!! Except no one knows who the father is, the emperor intervenes (1st husband says the baby is 4 months, 2nd husband is 2 months, and emperor says 3), and you're branded unmarriable/a sl*t by everyone.

AND if that isn't bad enough....a lot of sh*t happens, and you're finally ready to be with the 1st husband again, except BIG SURPRISE he's been a secret prince all along!! Our MC realizes that not only did she have NO agency going into these marriages, becoming pregnant, and having her reputation ruined--she's also been a pawn in the prince's fight for the throne this whole time.

And that's just the first half of this novel. Things improve, and there is a HE, but A LOT of sh*t happens before we get there.

[collapse]

This starts like a comedic novel with a hilarious misunderstanding where the FL thinks her ex-husbands are into each other and using her as a beard... but that's only for the first 10 chapters. After that, it devolves into a stereotypical political intrigue/love triangle story.

This novel was a ride, and I like that the FL/ML got back together for real when they did (although I wish we got a few more chapters of their relationship development and an epilogue where they show up)

Spoiler

The ML and the FL definitely both wrong each other, but there was a point in this story where the ML was scum, and I was hoping the FL would be happy alone/find someone else.

At first, the ML marries the FL to use her for political gain. He secretly makes her drink contraceptives that could make her infertile. The FL had no say in any of this, and she's utterly oblivious to the fact that she was being used! Yes, the ML fell in love with her, but what if he didn't?? Would he then be justified in exploiting, drugging, and probably abandoning her? It might be standard for the time, but... yikes

So I'm not surprised that the FL swears never to trust the ML again once everything is revealed. And to make matters worse, the SML tricks the FL into believing the ML was going to destroy her family, so she betrays him and takes the throne away from him, ending with the SML as the emperor (I'm still kinda confused by how the f*ck that happened lol).

When the FL realizes that she was tricked, she secretly takes care of the ML, and then they get back together.

Even though the FL "betrayed" the ML and toppled him from power, it turns out he knew the whole time and went along with it to atone for tricking her and to answer her question, "the nation or me?" It narratively makes sense for them to get back together at that point bc later it's revealed in the epilogue, the SML has absolute power, but he's still yearning for the FL--the ML did what the SML couldn't do, give up power for the sake of love.

I wish we saw more relationship development between the FL/ML to really earn this happy ending. By the end, I'm not 100% sure why they love each other and when because there just weren't enough scenes of them interacting. It could've used some more dog food lol

[collapse]

My biggest gripe about this novel is that it tries to do too much, which ends up not giving enough time for the relationship development for the FL/ML and uses old tropes

like the FL faking her death TWICE

Seasoned palace/political intrigue readers will probably see the twists and turn from a mile away. This novel isn't for everyone, but I found this novel quite charming despite its flaws. <<less

LOL this is just too funny. Her two ex-husbands were always competing for her, yet she's a fujoshi who enjoyed the show thinking both guys were actually in love with each other 😂😂

Although it’s still only been two chapters, but I like it.

It’s easy to read, translations quality is good and the updates are fast.

I love the MC. She seems to have an easygoing personality. Hopefully the novel will stay good.

Base on the title name, I had assumed it was going to be two-ex husbands conspiring together against the MC. I had assumed it was going to be a very dramatic story with a very either a very annoying MC or a typical damsel in distress. Fortunately, it was neither. As the same author of Heavy Sweetness Ash-like frost, the story is fluffy, funny and captivating. The MC is very dense, laid-back and downright hilarious with her thoughts. The two ex-husbands are very much in love with the MC and... more>> due to the s*upid meddling of the emperor was forced to divorce her. While the two were desperately trying to win her back, she was nonchalant and due to a hilarious misunderstanding, she is suspecting that her 2 husbands are actually in love with each other and using her as a shield.
Spoiler

What makes the story even more interesting is the mystery of her child's father, which could be either of the two MLs.

The story is light, sweet and will have you smiling before you know it. <<less

The MC is one of the most intelligent, pragmatic, and honest MC I have ever read about. Both the MLs are scum to a degree; though the first husband cleans up well later and in the end, you do feel sorry for him. Hope the translator continues the translation because it is a very short story.

I love this story!

The FL is very blur and hilarious: both ML1 and 2 love the FL very much to the point of tolerating one another!!

The story made me giggle and laugh and it’s so enjoyable!! The translation was done perfectly!!

Currently on hiatus. Hoping the translator will continue or someone to pick this up. Such great story!!

It's hilarious so far. Nothing melodramatic. If you are looking for light fluff and romance then this is for you.

Beautifully written and translated with a very "modern" thinking MC. She's pragmatic, hilarious, and pregnancy and being twice divorced doesn't stop her from being herself. The two ex-husbands are not scummy (yet if the summary blurb is to be believed). They both are (seemingly) still enamoured and chasing her. I can't wait for more!
