Unlike most BL novels, this story features a couple who are definitely not your typical loving-you-more-than-life doting pair. Rather, MC is a shameless, lazy couch surfer whose only goal in life is to live a free and unrestrained life. He is enabled by the shy-yet-determined ML, who takes their relationship way too hard, way too fast. As a result, they have a rocky start.

Naturally, the reason behind MC's behavior is revealed over the course of the novel.

Although, useless and unaccomplished, MC is extremely self-aware and understands that his interests may wane over time, hence the reason why he doesn't wish to be tied down. Additionally, he is diametrically opposed to anything resembling his parents' relationship, giving him all the more reason to reject marriage.

I enjoyed MC's personality as he was fresh and very progressive, although some of it was in the name of being lazy -- he argued that he wanted to be like a housewife... if women can do it, men can to. Never mind the fact that he never did a lick of housework. Eventually, he matures long enough to help ML while confronting his parents.

This ends as soon as he sets up his own company. Then he turns into an extremely talented arm-flinging shopkeeper and goes back to becoming a lazy bum. Work smarter, not harder, haha. Love him ❤️

The main story is pretty short and sweet, while the extras contain a little more angst and as they tell the story of MC's older brother. If you're looking for something short and sweet with a different type of MC, I would suggest this novel. <<less

It's not bad. The novel has more comedy than fluff. With some side dishes filled with bitterness. Like any other respectable BL, somehow the angst is always hiding somewhere ready to ambush us after being mellowed down by the fluff.

But I have to admit that it was that description that sold me on the story the most.

I always liked salted fish MC ahahha

Plus I relate to MC's way of life, it's my dream life honestly hahaha

Freedom and laziness are what MC wants.

Let's add the ML after lol.

I really don't like the ml. The author failed to convince me that his actions were romantic.

  • He is overly jealous and possessive. He constantly has dark thoughts of locking MC up, even if he doesn't act on them. But he does retaliate in other ways.
  • Ie. He is verbally abusive. He also punishes MC through s*x. Then apologises right after, thus binding MC in a cycle.
  • He is hypocritical. He judges MC for having many past lovers, yet he has proposed to multiple people. He seems way more fickle. Literally any person can fit into his fantasy after a month.
  • He wants to date a loser, broken and dependent person. Basically, he wants a "project". Thus, he deliberately remains obtuse to mc's wishes (no marriage) or strengths (background). He has no understanding of MC yet claims to love him. In truth, he just acts on his preconceptions that feed his need for control.
Any person who deliberately keeps you from financial independence in the name of love is diabolical. If there are signs of isolating you from others or breaking down your worth so you are solely dependent on them, run away expeditiously.

I saw that this overlapped with Blooming Romance and I was really excited but I can barely keep track of what's going on. The translation is just that bad. The MC doesn't have a very likable character to me, he feels very carefree and not at all like how he was portrayed in the description. The ML is very lazy and keeps trying to move the relationship on faster and faster. He hasn't even known the MC for two months yet and he already wants to propose marriage.

He is lazy person. His family is a truly mess. I would be surprised if under this circumstances he would be hardworking one. At least he is an optimist

He is very insecure guy who became easily jealous to everyone. He has trust and confidence issues. I don't really like him though, he is very controlling and in some places I suspected that he was looking down on MC and feeling superior which I really hated. He s hateful but he tries to get better though

Secondary characters

It is smth I really like in this novel. They are realistic, they think like in a real world not like in a romance novels where everything about love love and love. Even when it comes to main cp relationship, friends from both advice them to break up. I know it does not look good but it really shows that they don't wear pink gasses, but look at the world with more pragmatic point of view. They play a role of sober people or even my thoughts. Because if it was not a novel nothing would end well with how the things are.

I really liked MC's brother he was cold heartened and a little bit scummy and before eloping with his man he tested him a lot (as he said) and I liked this fact. He made sure that the person he wants to spend his life was worthy of his love and contribution. His decisions were not just based on falling in love, which makes me love him so much. You know there are so many cases when you elope with someone and then that person just dump you

Somehow, I liked this more than the novel Blooming Romance, which it was adapted from.

The MC is a real lazy bum. Doesn't help, plays all day, and is happy-go-lucky all the time. He's childish and extremely immature. He even tried to steal money from his family. But considering how messy his family is, he seems to be the most normal one but at the same time, the most abnormal.

The ML is a mild yandere. He thinks about monopolizing MC and locking him up all the time but is too pampering... more>> to do so. He spoils the MC and is almost always catering to whatever MC wants. But one time he went all nuts,

So, MC came out of the closet to his family and accidentally slipped, fell down the stairs, and broke his leg. The ML can't meet MC and hacked the servers to see how he's doing and found out about the accident. ML thought that MC was hurt by his parents and was so furious that he declared war with MC's parents.

Now, ML is poor while MC's family is extremely rich. ML even sold his company just to take MC away. He made a complete and detailed plan just to steal MC away and elope.

Anyway, good story and it's a fast read. The extras about the brother was heartbreaking and realistic. The calm and strict older brother turned out to be as impulsive as MC. You can really feel that they're brothers.

I also like how the story portrays how homophobic parents act when their child comes out, and how gay people feel when coming out of the closet. When people just can't accept you in your own home country, just go somewhere else where you can be accepted. It's hard to change people's perspectives but there is always a place where you can belong and there is always someone out there willing to accept you.

I think this novel and Blooming Romance are all about reconciling with your family, accepting your significant other for how they are, and being more open to your partner. Communication is key. What you are overthinking about may just be fixed by simple conversations. <<less

even the s*umbag dad character gets softened in the end, and the illegitimate half-brother and ex-lovers are actually quite nice. I guess the dad's mistress and two backstabbing acquaintances could count, but they receive very little screen time or emotional weight.

Both MC and ML go through nice character arcs to make their relationship work, without them losing their core traits.

-ML has some yandere tendencies, and is a giant vat of vinegar

-Some characters are from Blooming Romance, (MC himself was a supporting character in that novel) but there's enough context given that you don't have to read Blooming Romance to enjoy this. <<less

Honestly, really good. The translated chapters currently are only up to 7 but I MTL-ed it. It's a really funny story that's logical. All the characters have depth and are really well thought out. I liked that they have character development and growth throughout the book.

Our MC grows up in a dysfunctional family where both parents cheat on each other. He grew up hearing them yell and fight all the time. His parents would badmouth each other to him and put pressure on him to not turn out like the... more>> other. Seeing this, he finds the concept of marriage restricting and useless. It doesn't help that his parents try to force him into marriage despite his multiple refusals. It can be seen that their actions affect all their children. All of his siblings have some sort of issue that stems from their childhood. His oldest brother has trust issues especially when it comes to money because he was taught from a young age people do anything for more power and money. His older sister is extremely hard on herself and others because she was belittled and discriminated against despite her talent due to her gender. His youngest brother is depressed and feels inferior because he's an illegitimate who feels like he doesn't belong anywhere and would have rather been born into a normal family rather than one with a rich dad who treats him like crap. We see them grow but also understand their good intentions through their actions even when it seems like they were too hash. The siblings stick by each other regardless of what disagreements they might have with each other.

We also see the parents grow. I think it's very realistic. It shows that just because the parents accept one gay child, they might not react well to another coming out. And especially in Asian countries, most parents won't accept something until they face consequences of it and realize being gay pales in comparison to not having a relationship with your child. <<less

I love this novel. It is so sweet and funny.

I love Mc's family except the parents. The siblings are truly good to each other although they have very different personalities. I like their interactions. I also love how BR's characters have cameos.

It's cute, and fresh the whole way through. You see the MC mature and grow into a more competent lover, and solve some family problems along the way. I would rate it four stars, but the extras (from the ML's and older brother's perspectives) take it up a notch.

  • I have read up to only chapter 7 but I am liking it a lot already.
  • Especially the part about MC being a salted fish. I want to be a big salted fish!!! It's a pity that I cannot.
  • I read this and cannot stop giggling all the way.
  • But it is not fully translated so I have to MTL the rest of the chapters.

    At first you may not like the MC as you will think that he is not invested in this relationship as much as the ML. But actually the ML seems like a person who just wants to be in a relationship regardless with or without MC.
