Dimensional traveler Anna enters the Lohengrin mansion as a maid, ominously nicknamed the ‘Swan Grave,’ in search of a way back to her original world.

There, she unexpectedly encounters Marquess Rotbart, who mistakes her for his vanished wife and takes her by force, then makes her a surprising proposal.

“Become my wife’s replacement.”

He then reveals that for Anna to return to her original world, she must “bear a child with someone from this world.”

While she is troubled, Rothbart’s son, Svanhild, lingers by her side, pleading as well.

“I want a mother, Anna.”

A relationship doomed from the start. A condition she can’t refuse.

Desperate to return to her own world, Anna accepts Rotbart’s proposal…

I honestly can't fully explain why I like stories like this. Objectively speaking, the ML is... unwell. Lowkey a psycho. The kind who takes "till death do us part" as a literal binding contract. And not even death is enough, because if he could, he'd still drag the FL along with him. He straight up cannot accept a reality where he dies before her, because the idea of her existing with another man? Absolutely not. The day she dies is the day he dies too.

And yes, I hear myself. If... more>> my man isn't like this, I don't want him. Kidding. Obviously. or am I? 😏

Spoiler

Going in, I was convinced I wouldn't like this. I thought the FL was just a rebound or a placeholder for the ML's dead wife, who he was actually obsessed with. But nope. Plot twist. She is the wife. It's just fantasy and transmigration shenanigans, so there's no tragic third party haunting the narrative. Huge relief.

[collapse]

I'll admit it, much to my own shame. I loved this. I loved how it was written. I loved how intense the ML is. His burning, obsessive devotion. His unhinged desire that only exists for his wife. The way he's downright perverse, but only with her.

It's not smut overload, but when the smut does show up? It delivers. Capital H hot!!

Overall, I had a great time. I read this in one sitting. Fair warning tho, the ending might not be everyone's thing. It's technically a happy ending, mostly for the ML since they end up together, but you really see the full extent of his yandere tendencies near the end. And yeah. It's extreme. The FL is trapped. There's no sugarcoating that.

So if you're okay with obsession, possessiveness, and a love that's way past healthy, bestie, this one's for you. <<less

This is a quick read that will appeal to those who enjoy a good male yandere, but it has aspects that may not please everyone, especially those who have already read a good amount of dark romance. The story itself has a very engaging plot, considering the erot*c tone of the narrative. However, as it is a short story, the development is almost invisible and – until the end – everything remains the same. Many secrets are quite obvious from the beginning, and the author doesn't really try to build... more>> much tension around the initial mysteries. There are characters who disappear without any clear resolution or are never even developed, the misunderstandings between the couple are not resolved, and the final resolution focuses only on the FL discovering what a terrible mother she is and how her lack of communication made her life the hell she's trapped in now.

I confess that, considering my expectations for this book, none of them would have led me to imagine how much the FL's character would bother me in this abusive and toxic romance. Ironically, even though the ML is a very manipulative and abusive man, the damage he does to the story doesn't seem to carry the same weight as the FL's actions. If you're bothered by misunderstandings caused by characters incapable of communicating like mature people, I'll warn you that this trope is what sustains the romance here and all the drama between the couple.

The FL's character is basically a selfish woman who doesn't communicate, even abandoning her own newborn son because she's unable to openly tell the ML that she wants to see her mother again in her own world. Essentially, the ML is a character more chained to abandonment and betrayal than the FL causes, simply because she's incapable of properly communicating her feelings and thoughts. He is initially portrayed as a loving and devoted husband who struggled with abandonment issues due to growing up in a dysfunctional family. After feeling deeply betrayed by the woman he loves most, he slowly becomes obsessed with her – an acceptable cliché here to justify his past and the development of the male lead. In the end, the most undeniable interpretation, considering how the author intended to resolve the story, is this: even though the male lead acts ab*sively throughout the story, many of the female lead's actions led to the consequences she suffered in the end.

The story has an interesting construction in its fantastical elements, even if it remains quite simple and strangely similar to a typical omegaverse pairing. There are two types of characters that can mate in the narrative: swans and demons – even though one type should be about the characterization of a species, while the other is a circumstance of transported bodies. Clearly, there's no narrative logic to this pairing; it's an aspect the author clearly used more for the erot*c and fetishistic tone of the story. However, I wouldn't say it's such a dark story, and even with the s*x scenes all being dub-con, where until the end the dynamic consists of the FL only accepting the ML's treatment, there's no dramatic weight that makes it a distressing story. Aside from the final consequence the FL suffers at the ML's hands, the darkness between the couple is really just the classic power dynamic with a lot of manipulation, where the FL is slowly imprisoned by the ML while they have a lot of hot s*x in the story. <<less

I enjoyed this Swan Lake-themed story.

Lee Anna (FL) is a dimensional traveler and our swan.

Rothbart (ML) is a mysterious marquis and our demon (there's a parallel, since he's the scorned hero and the vengeful villain). Rothbart's son, Svanhild, is cute and intelligent, but it's clear he's the son of a demon (I'm curious what a story about him and his swan would be like).

Svanhild's governess, Rose, is a climber who thought she was smarter than everyone else and turned out to be just a jealous, foolish lunatic (I'm happy for... more>> her ending).

Odile of Brabant and Anna's boyfriend, Jo Se-yun (another dimensional traveler/swan) were an interesting addition (but there were times when I felt a little sorry for Se-yun).

Their relationship is complicated, filled with many red flags and steamy scenes. But the ending may be surprising or maybe not. <<less

Hans Christensen's The Wild Swans meets Brothers Grimm and Swan Lake - with all the anguish, dispiriting satire, and pain to help this short story pose the question: who is more pitiable - the one who creates the storm, or the one who volatizes it, or, better yet, is the most pitiable the yet forgotten (almost poignantly so) offspring of these forces? The storm.

the feeling of wringing a goose's neck after your being shot down to hasten death "humanely", that type of feeling - the feeling of succumbing to death... more>> and fate. Of strangling yourself, and the strangulation that follows. That is this story.

but sardonically so, in this tragedy, it isn't the demon or fantastical transmigrator or devil's spawn that promulgates initial hatred, but humanness - the humanness that is greed for pride and legacy, the greed to abject one's kin to apparent likened-loss, the greed too, knowing another, others, will be afflicted with such pain - for greed is the Swan's Grave <<less

Swan Grave is a dark themed psychological romance where a dimensional traveler named Anna enters the ominous Lohengrin mansion, nicknamed the Swan Grave, as a maid to find a way back to her original world. There, she meets Marquess Rothbart, who mistakes her for his missing wife and forces her into a complicated arrangement — promising to help her return home if she becomes his wife’s replacement and bears a child. His son also becomes emotionally attached, wanting Anna as a mother.

It was a good read overall. The smut was good too. But I didn't like the ending at all. It was very rushed and it didn't resolve any of their problems at all. It left me very unsatisfied and I hated that ... more>>
Spoiler

the ML left FL unable to walk, like wtf bro, instead of working it out with your wife, you leave her disabled just she can't escape you? It makes no sense at all. And besides, she wasn't entirely guilty of leaving them, both had been completely manipulated by ML's father, but ML pinned all the guilt on her, instead of trying to understand her. I admit that FL should've been honest from the beginning too. They're a very ill match imho lmao.

Anyway, that's my take on the story, but you should read it yourself. (Sorry for the long spoilered text). <<less

Wow.. what a read!!

I don't know.. whether I like it or dislike it. Because the ending was anything but normal. I mean obviously it won't be normal... But idk... How to feel

FL, unknown to her.. she was

Spoiler

actually summoned by the ML and their child, but didn't know until later. She thought she transmigrated with her boyfriend.

[collapse]

ML, a demon, and so in love with his wife.. his obsession and persistence led him to this predicament.

Honestly.. I don't have much complaints about this. But
