The story is good, and I love the characters... but the vibes are getting way too r*pey/Stockholm-y for me.

It’s still a good read if you don’t mind an extremely coercive ML and a MC with no spine, that both have no communication with each other, and the extreme power imbalance kills whatever “progress” they seem to be having. It’s almost like MC suddenly decides “so what if the kid I raised since he was a kid wants to trap and was ready to r*** me just 3 years ago, he’s... more>> only forcibly kissing me and denying any autonomy I might have now, so I actually think I should give in”, and it doesn’t help ML brings a whole f*cking kid into the manipulation and coercion, knowing MC likes kids. <<less

Your typical student x teacher story, not the worst I’ve read or the best, it’s honestly quite mid. The characters aren’t anything special; yandere young wolf-like unloved prince and beautiful, gentle, sick but mentally strong official/private teacher. Both the plot and the romance are there but the palace schemes and plot is just background for the romance. It was still interest, just don’t expect any 900 IQ plays here.

I think the author focused way more on chase than actually developing the romance to be frank. Most of the story is... more>> ML trying to tie down MC in any way possible, which didn’t bother me because it’s fitting (why would you expect a healthy romance from someone who was both ab*sed AND raised to never be denied because he’s the emperor), but the MC’s side was very lackluster and you had to read in between the lines yourself until near the end. MC was in love with ML, which is why he allowed ML to continually step on his bottom line and even shifted his bottom line further and further for him, but didn’t want ML to go down in history with infamy (having a male empress). Thus we get this whole song and dance as MC tries to run away in hopes that ML would cool his jets, and why MC refuses to just straight up reject ML.

Overall it was an ok story to burn some time with. The plot and characters were interesting enough that I was willing to read to the end and wanted to see what happens, but coming out of it I didn’t really feel anything afterwards. The story focuses a lot on the main pairing as well, so while your side characters are there I didn’t get attached to any of them either. <<less

This story is a nice read for me. As other reviewers said, this is your typical story of a yandere gong student growing up to eat his sick beauty teacher shou. But, I enjoyed it a lot because this story is my very first non-Xianxia Master-disciple story. It's refreshing to read your favorite storyline in a new genre.

The palace schemes are not very complicated. So it's not hard to follow even with MTL. Most of the story is about ML chasing down MC. But, aren't all master-disciple stories like that?

But... more>> you have to know ML is extremely possessive (He has been possessive since 12-yr of age OMG). Anyway, MC is the only light in his darkness, the only thing he can hold on. MC’s side is also understandable for me. He ran away cuz he didnt want the emperor he raised to be criticized just because he had male empress.

So, this is a good story when you want something not so complicated and you want to focus mainly on romance. <<less

I'm so proud of myself for finishing this so quickly. This entire novel ended with a whopping 400k (wait I just checked again AND ITS 700K???) word count. It is a pretty large word count and was daunting in the beginning but imo this work count is perfect for me, it's long enough for a slow burn romance and its perfect to not allow the book to get boring. At time I did get a little bored or confused with the politics but I ended up roped in again lol.... more>> I was looking for some interesting books on jjwxc, I'm never really on there, I prefer to use novelupdates because it has english translations but I recently payed for an automatic translator where u can get really good translations of webnovels so I decided to try it! It wasn't difficult to read at all like imo chinese novels are. But yeah, I wanted a book with transmigration and a possessive ML and thats what I got hehe. Beginning with the characters, I really liked lu qingze, I thought it was interesting how he tends to be cold and emotionless, he kinda started playing his role quickly too. I loved his character development and how he started to feel desire, pain, and happiness. I just wish he was developed more. I would've loved to see his past life and why he became so detached from his emotions. Also why was he a modern person but didn't flinch at ancient killings???? Ning juan, the ml, was an interesting character. Hes honestly a psycho so if that triggers you id be warned. Hes very posessive, it does get a little stockholm syndrome-y in the middle, even from a young age and wants lq all to himself. (Basically the young yandere disciple falling for his older sick beauty teacher) but that was what I was looking for so.. He has some nice character development, instead of keeping lq all to himself, he just wants him to be happy and I was relieved he wasn't trying to like lock him up somewhere or something. Onto the plot, I lovedd how their relationship started. One thing though, LOTS of time skips, and I really had to push through them tbh. I liked their progession and nj's realization of his feelings. At times I felt like the politics overshined their romance but it wasn't overbearing. It was mostly focused on romance. The politics got so confusing sometimes. There were lots of different ministers and princes and just villains. But it wasn't the main focus so it's alright, and it became easy to follow in the end. The ending was really nice and I left the book feeling satisfied. The side characters weren't really focused on. But I enjoyed the scenes we did get with them. One of my favorites was general shi, he was an interesting character. I also liked xiaodao and changshun. I appreciated that they got together near the end rather than them getting together early on and letting it drag. It was very much focused on the chase. Wouldn't say its the best chinese bl i've read but I was very invested and entertained. <<less
