This story is really for those who wants a clear cut romance with a little bit of drama and angst. Really mature doesn't mean the character is capable at everything and has super controlled emotion, at the end of the day, they are human; this story depicts that really good. There are dilemmas at making decision and hesitation at some point in time.

The MC

Spoiler

The MC (Wen Jianing) is a very mature person and a seasoned actor that died after drinking too much in the night he got he's best actor award; this is the first time he got it after only ended up being the nomination twice, the one who got it was his 'rival' but they don't have much interaction other than being an actor and at some point became a cast member in one movie together. He didn't have a boring life in terms of career, he's good at what he's doing and everyone acknowledge that. The first time he woke up in someone else's body (Ke Xinhang), he didn't immediately accept it, because how can you? He questioned a lot of things to the point of having identity crisis. He was crushed after he found out that his body has a defect, and that defect is on his manhood. A lot of reviewer might not understand why it was such a big deal, he has 'it' but it just as small as a child and confirmed to be infertile; for those who doesn't have it won't feel the sadness of losing it. The MC doesn't want this to be known because imagine the news and the humiliation he would get. Of course, he grows insecurity and anxiety because of it. The so called contradictory in some reviewers actually had reasons, it wasn't a mere author's confusion.

    • Wen Jianing is an actor not a singer, he can sing but not to the awesome level; but his identity now is Ke Xinhang who had a dream to become a singer, he tried but to no avail. At first the MC wanted to stray away from music path, but felt sorry for the original Ke Xinhang. There're no specific reason as to why he got to Ke Xinhang's body and he didn't know where the boy went. He speculated that maybe Ke Xinhang gave up and chose to end his life.
The MC were still hesitating at this point because he wanted to help Ke Xinhang but he's not that good of a singer. He thought that once he become an idol, he can step by step go back to being an actor. And then the ML came and had interest in him (at first it was just appearance based). He wasn't that good at singing, he wanted to be a singer for someone else, and the ML can help him to be a singer; logically it makes sense. He did become a singer and signed at an agency, so the thing that Ke Xinhang wanted had been achieved, then he could focus on his actor path.
    • About his drinking habit, the reviewer put it as if he was an alcoholic. He only drink in special occasion, either at a party or with friends. When he died, he drank to the point of passing out. He did become worry at 'drinking too much'. Every time he drinks alcohol there would be a hesitation and then he would choose to drink but kept to remind himself not to drink too much. There weren't many times where he got super drunk, but the ML did had two scene or so of being super drunk. And I don't think it even mention how exactly the MC died, he just know that he drank too much, and he died in his sleep in his bedroom.
    • I don't get how a certain reviewer said that the MC wasn't competitive, but than I realized that they only read until chapter 25. Well it's not MC's fault, it's the reader's. The MC was upset that he lost his role in a movie (because he died) and the one who got it was the ML. So every time the ML offers him a role, the MC kept asking for that specific role. But the MC still didn't get it because right now he was just a small idol; but he did make a cameo in the same movie. He still had ambition to be the best actor and wanted to be better than ML, he took upon roles that really up to him even when ML suggest otherwise (he didn't think MC can do it at that time). Why do you think he got to those parties and meetings? He need to be known and knows a lot of people in order to be safe in the market. He knows what his doing and not just waiting for ML to give him free roles. He toned down his competitiveness with ML, because ML didn't really think the him in the past (Wen Jianing) as a special rival (the ML always said "he was a great actor"), and also because he fell for the ML. But he still had his ambition while also supportive of ML. That's healthy rivalry.
    • The MC scared of his disability because in this circle (entertainment) it was seen as a weakness, some even think that it was disgusting, some would think it would affect the filming, and other would degrade him as not really a man but also not a woman (and just by his feminine look, a lot of people think so). And you should remember, he is a MAN and the problem is on his manhood. He had a perfectly healthy body before, but all of sudden he had to accept living in imperfect body. His first thought according to this matter was that everyone would be disgusted. In actuality, he wont be needed to show his private part, but he had his insecurity and not to be known by others is the way he lives through it. As him not being scared to be found that he had golden thigh, because all rumors regarding those can be seen as simple as a public stunt. Because behind the scene, someone having a backer wasn't out of ordinary; some even respect him if his backer had a higher position than them. It wasn't really a secret, because everyone behind the scene already knows that. And the public? They can be appease with confirmation and maybe the rumor would died down once it never been confirmed; it showed how fickle the public are regarding the celebrity, rumor died down when it's no longer hot. The ML for example, rumored to have several relationship, nothing was confirmed and no one really care after it's no longer exciting. His body imperfection will affect him behind the scene and public, but him having golden thigh could count as "not so secret" secret.

Overall, Wen Jianing was a great actor who had to start at the bottom with his golden master. In this new life, not only his acting life is getting better but his private life also improving. He even question himself as to why he acted spoil with the ML, because he was not like that before. He changed because he fell in love with ML. His character is not one dimensional.

The ML

Spoiler

No where in the story were told that ML (Lu Jinlang) is a saint. The beginning of their meeting, the ML had the intension of making the MC as his sugar baby. The MC gave mixed signal until finally he chose to get closed to ML, and of course the ML accept him with open arms. Their relationship started as very superficial and based on s*x, not really love at first sight. The ML wanted to move to next based but the MC didn't want the ML knows about his condition; and so, the ML offered him wine at one party and got the MC h**ny. And no, there was no drug in the wine, however the brand of the wine itself contained aphrodisiac; ML didn't know it would affect the MC that badly to the point of having or**sm just by one touch on his pe-is. Yes, it was dub con, but the MC is less angry about that but more embarrass about his condition; do remember, their relationship is a s*xual partnership for interest. What so surprising about having s*x with that kind of relationship? But to the MC's surprise, the ML didn't found it was disgusting, he was so-so about it but like to tease MC just to be funny and not meant to degrade him, even the MC knows that. There's a scene where Ke Xinhang's big brother tried to humiliate MC's about it, the ML goes full on MMA fighter and the big brother ended up at hospital. He always helped MC to concealed his condition because he understood how MC wanted to keep it a secret. He was never a saint, he has his shortcomings, but he was a great actor. He's private life isn't as messy as the public thought; he only has dated and then break up just like any other couple. He has his own ambition too but really support MC's ambition. When he found out about the real identity of the MC, he had a bad reaction toward it. Because his image of Wen Jianing from back then wasn't the same as the MC now. The image of the two always overlap, and no, he's not questioning his love; he just confused. It makes sense, I would be questioning my sanity if my lover told me that they were actually my rival. He needs time to sorted out his thought but never had consider of breaking up because he is indeed in love with the MC now. At this point is no longer about appearance, but really about the MC's character. It was confusing for him because the one he love and the Wen Jianing he know are two different people. And he had trouble at accepting that fact. It didn't take long until they talk it through after taking a break of meeting each other in order to avoid unnecessary fight. ML is really strong minded but knows when to be passive. But when he's bottom line were touch he could just aggressively decide things in order for it to end. His character isn't OP, he has his ambition, he has his anxiety of failing, he stressed out, he can be sick, and really not untouchable. He is human.

[collapse]

I wont spoil other than the two main character, because this review would be longer than how it already is.

For those who thinks that maturity means they capable at doing anything and less emotional really need to check their own maturity. It's not that the character is not mature, you probably just have super idealistic image of what is a mature individual. Both main character chose to act a certain way because of a lot of consideration; yet the young are bold. They had a lot to think through, but when they decide things they are ready for the consequences.

For those reviewer that stopped literally at the beginning of the story and complain about the plot, the character, or anything really such a disappointment. How do you judge a character growth when you don't even read the growth part? It's actually embarrassing to act "I know it all" without reading till the end, because how do you know it all without knowing how the story coming to an end?

The story isn't perfect, but surely refreshing. They have some mainstream trope, but takes a different approach. Give it a try. It might not be the best story, but certainly not atrociously bad. <<less

I keep coming back to re-read again and again. A word of advice. Just don't read chapter of Wen Lin n Li Rong. The rest is HE. Love Yang Yang too. Such a sweet and great ending or their story.

Love both MC n ML. They portray the complexity of entertainment social and give lot of tips to properly handle a relationship. The power of not giving up when trouble happen. Discussion is needed between couples as sweeping them under the rug doesn't work as shown in the second brother. Acceptance... more>> of each another and giving chance is important. Protecting each loves ones and each another.

The rejectness of homos*xual in society will always happen an it cannot be avoided. However it is also balance by other people acceptness. After all we cannot force everyone to have the same view anyway. Therefore be open. We don't have to have just to disagree, after all everyone have their own opinions. <<less

I love this story, maybe because of how mature it is. I love the plot, the flow and the characters. I agree with what the other reviews are telling that this story may not be the preference of some, we have different likes and that's alright. The author stated that the main plot is based on emotion, and I'm loving it so far. There may be some things that others would find uncomfortable which I too have felt, but I think it's necessary to add it to the story because... more>> it helps to make the story more realistic. Anyways, have fun reading!

(i don't know how to change the ratings but it should be five stars, hehe) <<less

I think that this is a gradual, mature romance that may not be the preference of some. This novel showed the not-so-welcoming treatment towards homos*xual couples, specifically on the way the ML's brothers treated his relationship with the MC. Accordingly, the process of overcoming and accepting this relationship was also shown.

I like reading about the MC & ML's relationship and the friendship between the 3 (MC, Wen Li, & Yi Nan). Lastly, I love Tongtong and Yangyang, these babies.

what I like in this novel is that the people in it are actually realistic. I can see and imagine the characters living as real people. Even the side characters aren't a bunch of cardboards and I greatly appreciate that. For me it's a mellow kind of story and I accepted it as it is so I enjoyed it. I have grown to love the MC and ML overtime. Overall it's a pleasant read and in my opinion it deserve a better rating like around 4.5 +.

Warning!! Power imbalance, and more importantly, d*bcon/n*ncon!

Honestly, I'm trying so hard to suspend my judgment since this novel has a lot of good reviews, but I just feel thoroughly creeped out by the ML, even though I'm trying hard to like him.

The tags on this novel seem promising, but the things ML have done so far just aren't my cup of tea sadly, and I hate how he kept putting the MC in an awkward position.

I don't know if the Note in the summary was written by the Author or the Translator, but the story is Definitely Consistent with what was written there. No Faceslapping, No Revenge.

This Novel is about how MC adapt with his new Life; disability as his secret, still want to be an Actor but also at least try Singing because that was the Previous owner of his new Body's Dream, redo everything to be Famous but with different Route from his Previous life. It's a Slice of Life in Showbiz Theme.

He... more>> experience things he never did in the past, doing 'Unspoken Rule', thank god it's only with ML. Though rather than the Obvious Normal type of Unspoken Rule, they act more like in Ambiguous but rather Comfortable Intimacy between each other. And rather than saying they do the Unspoken Rule, they Say they ARE in Relationship where they enjoy the Mutual Likes of Intimacy but without 'Romance' bind them.

And of course to develop their relationships to be the Genuine Love, they would gone through Separation and Revelation. But it has Satisfying Result! Don't worry.

The other Conflicts/Drama that doesn't happen between MC and ML, would show how things are not simply Black and White. Bad people does exist, and there's a way to Handle them without the Faceslapping/Revenge theme played. People with Bad Characteristics but not Evil or Villain also Exist. Tsundere also Exist~

This Novel also has Great Family Feels and Friendship feels! The Family are Unique and SO Great, and the Friends are Refreshing and also Sooo Great~!!!

I honestly didn't expect much when I tried to read this novel, but the Story just keep getting better in the next Chapters and they Hook me to finish this novel in just 20 hours!!!!!

It's may not be Perfect, but it gives me Satisfaction and I'm Happy and Content. And I'm Truly Loving it! Please, read it. Yes, I recommend it. <<less

Wow! This is an exceptional read. Honestly I was blown away. I thought it would be the average transmirating bl but it touches subjects that I always wondered. How does somone feel? Do they feel like they are losing their oldself? How do you react?

Even the ML the choices and the thinking process of how the chacaters grow, makes it so human. With wrong choices and right ones.

The confusion and the development and the misunderstanding are such which actually gets solved and isn't frustrating at all.

Although there's a lot of plotholes, the overall story is really great. The process of their relationship and even reactions have a touch of realism. There's no brainless dog blood drama and everyone is rational (although there's a mini villain). There's no drama in their career like bullying newcomers and constant harassment on SNS. MC and ML are both mature adult that their relationship is not affected by outsiders.

I really like how realistic is the reaction of ML when MC confessed about him being Wen Jianing. He didn't immediately accept... more>> it, instead he think it through as not to invalidate MC's feelings too.

Also the fact that the MC didn't just move on when he died and got into another body. Instead of just accepting it and starting new, he got internal conflict about his own identy. He can't move on about his previous life because he doesn't want to invalidate his own existence and forget who he really is. He knows that people around him in his previous life may gradually forgot about him but he doesn't want to forget about himself.

It's really a fresh story revolving in entertainment industry. Not perfect but easy for the heart. <<less

Not a gem and not my jam if you're blind for a showbiz bl romance go for it, but the beginning of their relationship is abrupt and the scenes aren't fluid, there's no abuse and the author tries to make them apear mature and rational in their decisions, but I just feel like they are lacking, in feelings, motivation. The story overall is bumpy, but you can still read it if you really really have nothing else to read.

Well im glad that I ignored the negative review on this novel bcos it was a rather good read. I usually had a hard time keeping up with entertainment novel cos sometimes the author make the mains way too op and focused on the entertainment circle or the fans online and I had to Skipped if there were too many but this novel focused on the rebirth itself and the relationship between the mains and their emotional struggle which I find it more realistic?.. Although there were things that I... more>> can't help but questioned like how the MC seems to be careless about drinking and stuff despite him dying bcos of overdrinking in his past life like how come he was not traumatized by it? And I know that sometimes he can't help but to drink bcos of politeness and that's how the ppl in the circles socialized but he didn't even try that hard to reject the offer which kinda bother me but regardless I still enjoyed it. It was not the best but also not the worst at least I didn't feel like I want to drop halfway thru like other entertainment novels.. Not the greatest execution to this premise. Even though the author emphasizes the maturity in both men, the entire relationship is pretty mid. I’m not too much of a fan nor did I hate it. Yes, there’s dubcon in the beginning so please keep that in mind.

I still enjoyed my time with this novel. I would definitely recommend Rebirth of a Movie Star for something a bit similar but better executed.

Pretty standard MC, like most other MCs in reincarnated/showbiz themed novels. ML is a bit sus, both him and MC pretty much glossed over that non-consensual s*x they had in the beginning. Hypocritical of the ML to do it when he recently exclaimed tgat he'll never do it unless MC is willing. I'm already getting vibes that from here on, MC would just continue to allow ML in showering him with benefits whilst in showbiz.. MC clearly doesn't know tact and would sit with ML in the public eye (eg... more>> film crew) despite their difference in status, unafraid of everyone else misunderstanding or them correctly getting the idea that he's getting unfair advantages from the ML lol. It's a bit wishy washy so I'll drop this for now. <<less

Some might not really like this mature type of romance. But I love it a lot. I love how they start flirting and gradually falling in love.

No heavy drama, MC died suddenly without need to revenge nor have any hatred. He didn’t receive the Ke Xinghang’s memories either, so he strife to pursue his dream once more. He truly love acting, and he does his best, working hard in it. MC is a very realistic person, mature, steady, calm. Actually his and ML’s basic personalities are similar, but author is... more>> really good in differentiating her characters.

I love how this novel close to reality. No weibo war between fans, the unspeaking rules also subtle. It’s depend on the artist themself, whether they want to take advantage of that rules. There’s no love story between this rival before rebirth either. Even without rebirth theme, this could be a very warming love story. But author choose rebirth to explain the young man’s ability to act superb in his age.

I love how MC try not to fallin in love at the first time with ML. He knows the risk, he enjoy their physical entangling, he didn’t ashamed nor very grateful to receive ML aka his sugardaddy’ help, yet he knows his limit and very mature. Of course there’s still scenes where it makes me shed my tears, especially when MC finally realize, sometimes you need to open your heart and take the risk of being hurt to cherish the love you had. I think it’s beautiful and very humane because ML was not a perfect man either.

The theme is not cute fluffy romance, but about how you need to work your hard, accept reality and move on, also how to learn loving someone. Maybe this kind of mature theme is not very popular, that’s why the rating is not high. <<less

I admit, I'm a little surprised with the ratings. It's not up there but it should not also be that low.

It's a gradual process.

Though it does have support system/sugar relationship, they still have mutual respect and boundaries with each other. And it gradually shifts. They know what they're doing, they're adults.

Mc's soul is two years older than our ml. His new body is a decade younher than ml. No weibo and fan comments. This is more realistic and mature. Doesn't focus on face slapping but our MC and ml's journey.... more>> Specifically, our mc's road back to the top. No angst and heavy drama. Even the actions are written in their favor, as there is no major accidents that happen to them. On another note, I'm amazed with our MC having an identity crisis. It was also novel to see the ML needing some time to accept mc's identity and think through their relationship. Thinking if the og him exists and he's not just a personality in the host's body. ML became his anchor I guess. The identity reveal was in the later chapters. And it was much later when he revealed it to his mother. Those two are the only ones in the know. Other past close acquaintances only felt familiar with him.

I'm satisfied that they showed a lot of different films/tv series/variety show. Some areas are grey and some areas are dark and majority of the areas are sunny. They started as friends with benefits and support system with the ml. Then, after some cool down periods, they got together. It's not insta love, they know what they're doing and what they want. It was a gradual process. Some characters were forgotten. We are given a closure in the end with a child. Even their coming out to the public was a decade later. They both get along with each other's family. <<less

I'm a sucker for the sugar baby trope so although the writing (and the TL, ngl) is very much subpar, I still pushed through and got attached to our leads' love story.

But it really is subpar though so don't go in and read expecting getting your mind blown or hearts moved.

What did stand out best to me was the part where MC confessed to ML about his identity, and how ML reacted to it. I feel that that was definitely a reasonable reaction a normal human being would have.

This is one of those stories that may most likely make you give up but once you push through, finish reading, then digesting it; that it’s actually good.

There are not a lot of rebirth via different body genres that takes the route where the new body isn’t perfect in all aspects and there’s not much detail into how they feel about their original body’s death. The journey back to the top wasn’t even been the main focus; it was the relationships the MC had and the new ones that were... more>> created that helped him more or less stay grounded and I liked that. <<less
