The world only knows that Princess Guangyi — Xiao Wanshuang — is a beauty carved from fine jade.

Yet no one knows she was born with an exceptionally sharp, perceptive mind; in just the time it takes to finish half a cup of tea, she can see straight through anyone’s heart and true intentions.

Even fewer know she harbors a secret love she dares never speak aloud.

The one she loves is her imperial elder brother, the Crown Prince — Xiao Dai.

Once, before his study desk, she slid a teacup slightly closer, her fingertips barely brushing against his wrist as he wrote. But Xiao Dai only thanked her calmly, his gaze fixed entirely upon his papers; he did not spare her even a sidelong glance.

At a palace feast, she stood on tiptoes and leaned close to whisper to him.

Xiao Dai merely flicked his wide sleeve away, his expression cold and distant: “At the third quarter of the Xu hour, the palace gates will be locked. You ought to return to your chambers.”

Even so, she could not help but wish to draw nearer to him, again and again.

Xiao Dai had always seen Wanshuang simply as a younger sister to be cherished and protected. As she grew older yet still refused to keep her distance, he only assumed she was naive and unaware of proper boundaries.

Rumors spread through the palace that Minister Pei had long admired the Princess, and even the Emperor intended to betroth her to him. Xiao Dai knew his sister had always detested that man, so he paid the matter no mind at all.

Until the day she agreed to the match without the slightest hesitation.

He rushed to her immediately, only to find that hot‑tempered Minister pinning her against a wall inside a house.

She suddenly stood on tiptoe, looping her arms around the man’s neck, her dark hair tangled with the tassels of his silver crown: “Minister Pei… didn’t you say you admired me?”

Xiao Dai’s knuckles turned white, and a burning, searing pain he had never known surged through his chest… He finally understood: he had never been as indifferent or untroubled as he had told himself.

That very night, lamps burned bright all through the Crown Prince’s quarters. Unable to bear it any longer, he seized her wrist and pressed her hard against his desk: “Must you torment me like this?”

As years passed, Xiao Wanshuang resolved to cut off this affection she had held for so long, let go of her obsession, and quietly withdrew from his life.

But later, when her husband was convicted and imprisoned, she was taken back to the Eastern Palace by her elder brother.

The man who had once been as gentle and refined as fine jade now looked at her with dark, turbulent eyes — fierce and terrifying as a wild beast. Terrified, she tried to flee, only to be blocked by his tall figure.

“You wish to leave?” Xiao Dai’s fingers were ice‑cold as he brushed a stray lock of hair from her temple. “Did you ever ask for my permission?”

Years later, when he ascended the throne as the new Emperor, old private secrets from the palace came to light. It was said that Princess Guangyi, who had once lived among common people in her childhood, might not have been the late Emperor’s biological daughter after all…

Yet the new Emperor ordered the matter completely concealed, and it was never spoken of again.

That same night, behind soft silk curtains in a warm chamber, the young woman tried to push him away, crying out in shame and anger: “Brother…”

“You’ve called me that for so many years,” he murmured. Before she could speak another word, he bent down and kissed her — all his long‑repressed longing spilling out, each word heavy and deliberate: “Tonight… you shall call me something else.”
