What's up with every korean GB novel being weirldy tragic with MC who have bricks for brains ?

First off the GB part is always getting cast aside because "oh well, I guess I'm a girl now, but anyway, ".

Second, the MC's are supposed to be ADULT MALES and they f*cking act like 5 y.o. This one is literally getting ab*sed by the mother and MC is just like "well no, parents always love their children, this is just discipline !" WTF ??!!!?

... more>> That's not how it works...

All in all, cringe and eye-bleach tier. The only redeeming point is the translation. <<less

It's the usual extremely tragic "MC is tortured for no reason". The MC seems to be jumping between being angry MC and Tragic Book Character. Always going on about how much they don't want to die, but then they take reckless actions that only worsen their situation.

Spoiler

They somehow instinctively try to avoid evil mother, but suddenly they decide that it's ok to openly rebel against evil mother. The MC is taking drugs in a tragic self-destructive manner every 5 seconds while going on and on about how bad the effects are.

The evil mother is constantly torturing her as if she's her worst enemy. But then she's like "Go marry this rich guy so that you can get out of my reach." or some other s*upidly contrived idiocy.

The said rich guy is the childhood friend of the OG MC, but for some reason, they've never visited the MC? Like what? And OG MC never complained to childhood friend about how much they are tormented?! Childhood friend never sees the scars, bruises, and cuts covering the OG MC's body!? They apparently did a bit of roughhousing as kids... but it never showed?......

The siblings find it in their interest to torment her constantly as if she isn't a human, but then they go about pitying her... only to suddenly say "You deserve it because you were asking for it."

[collapse]

I enjoy a good tragedy, but this is extremely contrived...

Spoiler

Also, the GB is so f*cking useless. There is no room for male pride in a situation where you are literally tortured every single day. You're literally being a submissive bit*h to your mother already. This character is like a masochist. Even if your husband hits you, it's better than being waterboarded after being whipped. And I don't see why you're so dense. Your childhood friend is worried about you, and you (who, might I remind you, wants oh so much to live) decide that you'd rather not have to pop out kids for some unknown dude... but bro... What era is it? Look at your equipment!! You aren't gonna get a better partner than the lovable dense idiot childhood friend. I mean, sure... he's blind and s*upid, but that just means that it's easier to control him. And what's so bad about having s*x as a woman?! Are you in denial about your situation that you'd rather be tortured to death than face reality!?!?!?!?!?!?! This isn't the modern times where everyone loves you for being the end of your bloodline... And besides, since you have a horrible disease that will kill you if you don't eat lots of healthy food for a year, nobody's gonna force you to have kids!! RAAAARRRRGGG!!! THIS IS SO f*ckING s*upid HOLY sh*t I'M GONE!!!

I'm not sure where the story is going yet, but currently it looks like a short story where an unfortunate MC is suffering from ab*se and her struggle to find happiness. The world building so far has been okay, I don't expect this to be the best thing I've read but I enjoy this genre so I'm giving it a read.

Edit: First review was at ch7, now that I've finished the novel it was dark, but it does have a happier ending then I thought it would. I would skip... more>> this one if you don't like gruesome details. Definitely worth a try. Plus the translation is good which helps. <<less

I cannot state enough how much I love this. I came around and began reading when it was just completed, and as much emotional pain I went through, I don't regret it in the slightest.

To begin with, we don't know who the MC was before the body swap/transmigration/whatever. All we know is they are a self-proclaimed genius who lived well in upper-middle low-high class and a musical savant. The MC, Emily, goes through hell, and while I can definitely see how some people might dislike the character, think they're... more>> s*upid, they're not thinking about how Emily is already mentally damaged.

As James Baily's review states
Spoiler

And while this makes sense in the normal sense, Emily is a character with physical trauma that the body and remnants of the mind still remember, but is also paired with a mind that doesn't have that. There's both the little girl whose body they took, as well as the genius, prideful savant. Additionally, the drugs they take aren't for self-destructive purposes, which they didn't seem to find out after dropping so early, they're medicine. Sh*t medicine, but medicine.

In the end, the novel had a happy ending, and the climactic confrontation at chapter 60-something was cathartic. A well-deserved win with some people put into the "crossfire". The ending made me very happy, especially for the hell I had to read to get to it, and I am very happy to say that I thoroughly rate this a 9/10. <<less

This is a really good, short and sweet read. I finished it within a day. I don't recommend listening to other reviews talking about how some of her actions don't make sense, since its pretty clear from the get go that this is an unreliable narrator who is also severely mentally damaged. Additionally her mentality is such that she will never take the easy way out, which leads to a lot of the drama.

This is most definitely a tragedy story worth reading, and the cathartic payoff near the ~55 chapter... more>> mark is thrilling to say the least. Additionally, there is a happy end to tie it all together so its not like a complete tragedy for those who don't like fully wallowing in misery the whole time, since this ends in 70 chapters. (Looking at you academy heroine's right diagonal back seat). The drama isn't melodramatic and it isn't too unrealistic either. This is a story about someone being ab*sed and how they deal with it.

So yea, I would recommend you read it since I just stumbled upon it and it had me hooked. Though the translation on fenrir is a bit iffy (Hard to tell who's speaking when there's no quotation marks, and a few abrupt POV changes without warning). Might be from the original but idk. If you can deal with that then go for it. Didn't regret spending a couple of hours on this one bit. <<less

Pretty heavy story if you are one of those who get very emotional when reading like me

The main character suffers a lot of ab*se from his family members and it's pretty hard to read since most of the story focuses on the suffering. The author knows how to write well, so you hope things get better for the MC, but from what I read the ab*se continued and it was too much for me.

I guess it's a novel for people who have the taste for it, for for those who... more>> are not too fond of the suffering of others I wouldn't recommend it much, I really had a hard time reading ah <<less
