Actually a nice read. This set in a time during revolution era where the nobility and royalty is slowly losing their power and commoners begin to fight back against the unfair class system and abolished the monarchy government to a parliament. The author probably takes notes of french revolution since some aspect in novel is similar to the real event. Ain't going to lie but it's really surprising to see a historical kr novel actually showing support toward the working class aka commoners and how much they suffered from the... more>> greedy act of nobles. Many other novels often worship the nobility to the point it tethered to classism. The political intrigue and the romance is well balanced. The characters are all interesting and not 2d like.

the MC and ML is not perfect, they have flaws with reasonable excuse and they themselves acknowledge their flaws.

MC
Spoiler

roel killed his father who was a viscount with liberal ideology to spare his family from further punishment. He was heavily ab*sed and manipulated by his older brother so you may find him annoying and frustrating since he act like a doormat to his brother. He'll excuse his brother's ab*se to him as 'family love'. Inherently believed the man's hit and whip as a form of punishment for his misbehavior. He'll eventually break free from the circle of ab*se but you need to be patient.

Roel is compassionate, loyal and decisive. He knows his goal and how to achieve it. He's a smart MC only hindered by his devotion to his brother. He's also secretly a liberal and supports the revolution.

Though ngl roel is also quite a hypocrite with the way he act to ml, often judge him heavily about his past (where at that point of the story they both were mu*derers) and only believing ml's flaws yet doubting every positive act ML did toward him. But he'll realized his error way of thinking later.

Ml

Spoiler

Terrence Langdon is a duke who was suspected to be a liberal and helped funding the revolution. He's known to be gay that's why roel is sent to seduce him as part of the plan. He's the typical ML who's domineering and cruel in bed. But langdon is willing to admit that those characteristics of his is weird and wrong. He has a quick temper and a foul mouth. If he's angry he would say smtg that would hurt roel the most, and even punished him in their bed activity. But he's quick to apologize and often regret his behavior to roel right after.

Unlike other nobles, Langdon is respectful and fair to commoners. He's also really good at his job and at hiding his involvement to the liberals. He had a prejudice against roel bc of his prostitute rumor so he treated him harshly at first but gradually put his past behind and treat him gently.

roel and langdon's relationship

Spoiler

Tbh I feel like their s*xual activity is full of dubious consent. That's because roel had to pretend his false prostitute rumor is true just for the plan. That in turn makes Langdon do whatever he wants during s*x bc he thought Roel already done it before. Their s*x is full of bd*m play too.

Langdon is usually the one who initiate the communication in their relationship. He also tend to point out Roel's mistake especially since Roel love to hide his feelings and avoid his problem, and help him realize his brother is bad. But of course, Roel also called out Langdon if he did something out of line and rude. They truly love and respect each other, willing to put each horrible past behind and focused on the present.

It is one of the best on this platform. The translation is also very well done, considering how the language has to fit a period drama. It could have been a sappy dog blood drama where MC is constantly suffering. But the backdrop of a revolution against the class system at the dawn of the industrial revolution gives a very rich dimension to the MC and ML and how their lives are intertwined. It has class divide and political intrigue, good character study, convincing villains, smart MC without being overtly... more>> power MC, enough angst for the itch and if you are into it, dubcon BD*M. Most of all, the ML's transgressions are excused with enough reasonable explanations that makes forgiving him easier than in so many other novels of such kind. His green flagness only increases as the novel progresses. <<less

Set in a fictional 19th-century kingdom, Libera List mixes political intrigue with dark romance. The backdrop of revolution and fallen nobility gives it a unique European atmosphere, and the spy element adds tension to every interaction. Roel is a timid but clever protagonist, and watching him navigate rumors, betrayal, and seduction is both painful and fascinating.

At first I wasn’t sure about the ML, his prejudice against Roel for the prostitute rumor and his domineering personality during their intimate moments made him hard to like. But outside of that, he’s actually... more>> considerate, and over time he really grew on me. The political intrigue and aristocratic setting are engaging, and the relationship develops into something genuine and emotional. If you enjoy aristocratic settings, conspiracies, and a blend of politics and smut, this novel delivers. <<less
