It is safe to say that most of Takuto’s life was spent in the hospital room.

Every day is a series of inspections, and there is almost no time to rest.

The only place where he could find his own worth was inside the well-known nationwide simulation game “Eternal Nations”.

A game that uses various races and nations that exist in the fantasy world to conquer the world.

Yes, he was proud of having achieved the highest difficulty level of “Eternal Nations”, which was said to be impossible for people to clear the game using “Mynoghra”, the most difficult state to use.

Among the players, he is legendary, and of all that because of the existence of a girl in front of him–a unit called Atou.

“I don’t know where this is. It might be the world of “Eternal Nations,” it might be the real world where Takuto-sama was, or maybe a totally different world, but just like those days…… Let’s start with just two of us. Let’s create our own kingdom.”

I'm going to compare Mynoghra to Overlord just because there are so many parallels, and most importantly, the comparisons illustrate how poorly written Mynoghra really is.

Sure, Mynoghra is a kingdom building isekai novel, while Overlord is more of a RPG isekai, but that doesn't really change the fact that both novels have extremely similar character dynamics, and this is where Mynoghra is horrible.

Let's talk about the protagonists. The whole idea behind Takuto's kingdom is that it is evil aligned. People under him, just by swearing loyalty and becoming citizens, also... more>> become much more evil aligned. His appearance to other people is shown to be evil incarnate. Come on now, an evil aura, shadowed figure, it screams typical villian. Yet, you're going to tell me, despite all of that, Takuto is not going to be influenced by his own setting? There's no clashing between the evil nature of his kingdom and his "JP" personality, which really means "pushover while saying only cringe dialogue" in this case. No, despite Takuto's kingdom being an "evil" kingdom, you're going to just read his cringe monologue like "wah, girl crying, don't know what to do, " "uh oh, can't speak in public, " or "atou is so cute haha."

Suzuki Satoru from Overlord, even from just his original base personality, isn't the type of guy to sputter utter cringe like Takuto does, but barring that, we can see how being in an evil skeleton whose setting is to kill humanity warps his morality and personality as the novel progresses. Mynoghra merely just makes Takuto have an "evil" kingdom and doesn't do anything with it.

Ok, fine, but what about other characters? Yeah, they suck. Atou is just a generic loyal servant that acts like an NPC, and the novel, with lack of better understanding of creating a character with a personality, decides that Atou acts s*upid and dumb sometimes because she's from a game to begin with. Yeah, perfect. Honestly, Atou would be a lot less annoying if the person she admired deserved the respect that she gave, but because that's not the case, Atou isn't a very good character either.

Finally, we have the biggest deal-breaker: literal NPC citizens. World-building plays such a big part in a kingdom-building novel, especially with your first citizens. Yet, the dark-elves that Takuto recruits actually just change personality once they declare themselves to be loyal to the king, whether that be their unceasing loyalty, or just their nature aligns to evil. These citizens have no impact. They reluctantly join, but once they declare themselves as subjects of Takuto, they just become 100% loyal with no personality, thus reducing them to yes-men. Again, contrast Gia to Gazeff Stronoff from Overlord. Who has more impact? Do I even need to say? Gazeff Stronoff respects Momonga, but still does not yield based on his own principles. This sort of pattern of having relevant characters and worldbuilding in Overlord compared to this novel, who fails to paint other characters in a realistic light, and instead makes them husks of no personality that swear fealty to their lord. <<less

Its have potential to be another overlord with additional twist, the main chara can't even talk normally with his followers.

The part that I like is he start his kingdom from zero, with just 1 subordinate, while Overlord already have his extremely powerful army and magical castle.

It will be interesting to know how he struggle to build his kingdom while avoid conflict with other nation.... hahaha

This is incredible and has the potential to be a great fantasy novel series, surpassing mere isekai and comparable to classics like A Song of Ice and Fire and Dune. But there are a few major problems, which I hope get fixed in the LN and manga adaptions. Don't take an all-criticism review as meaning I hate Harbringer Mynoghra, it's the exact opposite, but these flaws hold it back from true greatness.

The biggest problem is there is an unreliable narrator. The author is very skilled and has a grasp on... more>> the concept of controlling the flow of information, but he's inconsistent with it. Most of the time, the narrator will only partially explain events to the reader, leaving out key information to set up a surprise. For example,

Spoiler

One of the biggest shocks of the story is Ira Takuto's mu*der by a hit squad of 2 saints and a witch from Qualia. Prior to this event, whenever the narrator focuses on the Qualia faction, they only discuss internal affairs, and the perspective shifts when they're about to talk about Mynoghra. The reader is mislead into thinking Mynoghra is a minor or unknown concern for Qualia, since the narration focus presumes importance and from the reader's knowledge, Qualia has no intel on Mynoghra. Instead, the "internal affairs" are just minor things, and the destruction of Mynoghra was their top priority, since it was ordained in an ancient prophecy. While true they had no information, they didn't care, they were so obsessed with mu*dering Takuto, they were bold enough to try before the nations had any official contact. All of this is sprung on the reader during and after the assassination as the Qualia (later Lenea) faction celebrates.

[collapse]

While tricking the reader isn't a problem itself, the narration will also describe a character's thought process instead of show scenes of that character behaving according to a thought process. This was especially notable with Isla, the Queen of Bugs. It felt like scenes were missing from her and the narrator had to explain her thought process for the first time instead of reinforce it. This also applies to Atou. The narrator insists she is an evil creature by nature but from Atou's actions, her words, her empathy, it's impossible to see her as anything but a sweet girl in love with her boss.

This "style" has the narrator under explain to set up twists, then over explain to compensate for missing scenes. This creates a strange sensation of Harbringer Mynoghra feeling both slow and rushed. The story has some character, nation, or world building chapters that drag until a terrifying, out of nowhere oppressive threat appears that massively advances the plot, radically changing the status quo.

Because the narrator skips things, a lot of Mynoghra's worldbuilding is under explained, which is a shame because worldbuilding is the primary strength of Overlord, the isekai novel series Mynoghra will be most compared to. However, the worldbuilding is there, just not explained. A good example of this are Takuto's powers and identity. It's set up long in advance with hints, and when we finally learn his abilities, it's consistent with what we know since the start of the story, but it's revealed in a slow manner over many chapters designed to confuse and mislead the reader. At the same time, the author anticipated that Atou not knowing Takuto's powers is a plot hole, so he came up with an in-character explanation that makes perfect sense... but again, it's told, not shown, up until it needs to be revealed as a twist.

Ideally, the readers should have a firm grasp of the world mechanics (game rules) so they understand what's happening, and surprises should come by not understanding new mechanics or the interactions between them. This is how Jojo's Bizarre Adventure works with Stands and Mynoghra has a similar structure, except replace "factions" with "Stands". As of Chapter 94 I the reader still don't know all the mechanics of "Eternal Nations" which is a problem when the story wants to have complex interactions between the rules of "Eternal Nations" and other fantasy games.

I feel like the author tried to rush to the action because he feared the novel was too slow, which is understandable, but a shame. It can be easily fixed by simply adding more character scenes with important characters. The scenes that "drag" only drag because you don't know how important a character is supposed to be. I think there are more scenes with Annalise Antique than Isla even though Annalise is a minor character up until this point. Don't give characters scenes until they're going to be important to the story, especially since the author is great at writing scenes and establishing emotional stakes.

Two scenes (one of which is in the spoiler) were so shocking, horrifying, and depressing when they played out I got upset reading them. I never get shaken reading isekai and Mynoghra did it twice. The novel sometimes describes Takuto's evil as a throbbing pressure and you can sometimes feel it through the text. The reader knows from his backstory he is highly intelligent, competitive and might have a few screws loose, and watching those three traits coexist is both interesting and unnerving. Takuto might be the most evil MC in isekai despite not being mu*derous or sadistic because he's so complex. He's closer to real-life monsters like Joseph Stalin than he is to cartoonish evil like in Redo of Healer.

Takuto's title is sometimes mistranslated as the "King of Doom" but doom aptly describes both him and the series theme. The readers can feel when characters are fated for a grim destiny, because events are foreshadowed, supported, and followed through. Uncorrected character flaws result in a character's untimely demise and characters who anticipate the future survive until tomorrow. Hopefully the author also makes the adjustment. I don't think Harbringer Mynoghra itself is "doomed"; I would anticipate "blockbuster" in its future. <<less

Started good, and interesting concept of clash between not only powers but also their power systems and laws that could influence each other, making the result totally unpredictable, but goes from interesting to unique then turn into absurd real fast.

I'll try not to spoil anything.

Imagine reading a novel with theme like sci-fi intergalactic war where people go kill each other with laser gun, plasma sword, gravity bomb and such things, then things turn a bigger scale after a while with crazy futuristic giant space weapon and space ship and whatnot... more>> (which is still acceptable).

Only for some moment later, there's new characters popped up from some planet joining the war, who can fly, have bulletproof body, some insane physical strength and can shoot laser beam from his eye.

And then another guys also came from another galaxy or whatever which also can fly, turn their hair blonde as their power grow stronger, and shot kamehameha energy beam from his bare hand which could actually obliterate space ships like nobody business.

This space war is going hectic yeah? let's throw Daemon Sultan Azathoth in middle of the solar system to make things more interesting... what about sci-fi war? Scratch that pew pew nonsense, The theme is cosmic horror from now on until it's not, btw there's this side story about a bunch of long-tailed spider looking alien that hug your face and shoves it's s**en down your throat to plant their eggs on you and then their babies will explode out of your chest then grow bigger than human in a mere hours then continue mu*dering people in a certain space ship, just saying.

That's what kind of absurdity I feel when reading this, I'm not saying it's bad BAD in a sense, but come on? Was author eating shroom while writing this? it's so wild like reading fan-fiction or something.

Thankfully it's not yet finished, so there's some hope for satisfying ending that make sense. <<less

People who compare this to Overlord are just... grossly unqualified and ignorant. The only similarity here is that both protagonist are "ruler" of a group and maybe some characters, but that's as far as it goes.

This novel explores a wayyyyyy different (and more original) theme and is more game-like, more specifically, turn-based strategy games like Civilization where you need to research tech and such to build an Empire.

But that's not the only thing it stops at, but it also mix in other interesting settings in there. MC is a "god"... more>> of such (player) that was isekai'd after death into his favorite game, who controls, builds, and produce things like units (similar to Starcraft/Warcraft) of a non-humanoid evil-aligned faction to slowly grow his Empire; hence the units he can produce are non-humanoid and monsters.

But what it also mixes in is the factor of other player-like factions like the MC in a game like Civilization or Total War instead of only him being the only one able to use the game's mechanics to his advantage. But what makes it even more interesting is the fact that these other factions aren't necessarily from the same game and hence have different mechanics than the game that MC came from and the novel does a decent job at exploring that so far in volume 3.

Overall, has a lot of good potential, but... My first gripe is the... middle school looking protagonist which plague Japanese novels and anime. Why can't they ever move past that trope...

The 2nd and biggest gripe I have is... effin' guns. Why do they gotta bring guns and machine guns and crap into their fantasy novel? That is such a lazy and lame way to create a plot tool to erase the protag's obstacles. I accidentally cl**ked on 5 star too quickly when it should have been 3 at most because of this and it's what caused me to drop this novel.

Instead of cool armies with monster and melee clash like you'd imagine, you'll most likely get some s*upid modern soldier wannabe with dark elves using guns or some s*upid crap in a fantasy non-modern setting, maybe with some monsters. Honestly just ruined every potential it just built up to this point to me. <<less

I F***** hate when people can only compare one novel to another more popular one... even more when it haves NOTHING TO DO WITH ONE ANOTHER

KINGDOM BUILDING jesus christ, this is a KINGDOM BUILDING novel with GAME ELEMENTS.

GAME ELEMENTS that are STILL RELEVANT to the setting, not something only the "player" recognizes and can't use because "this is real life", it's a world that HAVES the "elements" of the game, but not everything is exactly the same.

... more>> Civilization

Heroes of Might and Magic

Warcraft 3

The world haves resources that the player recognizes them from his time playing the game that is very similar to the games I just described.

The game he played was TURN BASED, so it's different from what he's experiencing in this new world, but he adapts accordingly.

The nations he haves interacted with also recognize and use these resources, but they don't have the complete "tech tree" that he haves in his mind, which gives him an advantage.

It's hinted at by the end of each chapter that there is a "system" in place.

Every nation has an alignment and his nation haves the "evil" alignment making them incompatible with "good" nations, but the player is not constricted by the "system" to be "evil" he's a pacifist that wants to focus on the development of his nation, internal policy, internal growth, this is where the "neutral" alignment comes into play for politics, so we have a very clear antagonist mixed in with countries that could become allies or enemies

It's very interesting to see his "system" play out in this world, and the development of his "kingdom" that had the roughest start of all the game, really does remind me of "Heroes of Might and Magic" where the "evil" kingdom haves a tough start too but if you play smart it's a frikken broken civ to play with.

But the world isn't "exactly the same" so we can still look out for how he manages imminent treats that don't work at all as in the game he mastered.

No, this is not "overlord" there is nothing like "overlord" in here, not even the funny "haha, no one understand this bumbling idiot that stumbled into destroying a kingdom."

There is a very clear "intent" and focus on the player to build the greatest kingdom with an interesting policy and clear antagonists, nothing is muddled with "Immorality" like Overlord.

This isn't a dumb PVPer that just knows how to duel and can't think 2 steps ahead.

This is a very capable strategist that has honed his mind hours upon hours playing the strategy game he loved before passing away from his illness.

So if you LIKE strategy and kingdom building and resource management, you will love this story. <<less

I rated the manga 7/10.

The pace was pretty good in the manga, but it feels incredibly slow here. The author will explain something in detail about a concept or mechanic, but then completely skip other stuff that I was really interested in.

Another problem I have is how the author or main character will explain something. Maybe ___ is evil or whatever it might be, but then we see the opposite. This happens a lot and it really removes the intensity from the situation. For example, the Main Character seems like... more>> the literal embodiment of evil... yet helps everyone.

I saw some people compare this series to Overlord. They are completely different stories, but there are a few things that might be similar. The Heros the Main Character can summon act like NPCs from Overlord where the Main Character is perfect. We also see misunderstandings of the Main Character because he looks like black smoke in the shape of a person. However, he is still a good guy, so?

That being said there are things that feels like the author took inspiration from Overlord. The dark elf twins, the NPCs like behavior, the summons that just randomly run away, the brain eaters, and so on. This isn't bad or anything, but it comes to my last issue with the series.

I feel like there were so many opportunities to create something unique or add in your own flavor, but it feels like everything is sort of cherry pick from different stories and it just feels a little lack luster. It could have been so much better, but it just didn't quite get there. <<less

It's a nation-building isekai with an "evil" country, but they come from a strategy game instead of an RPG. More characters are summoned from other games (and genres) later on, and some characters are aware that they were previously in a video game... personally I'm really not a fan of that aspect, but I might come back to see how it is when there are more chapters.

It's very interesting, with a new idea, completely never used before. The premise is the same as overlords, the MCs with the game characters are transferred to another world. It's the same but when you read the story it changes your mind

Spoiler

Ideas that have never been used: NPC characters in other games are transferred to the world where MC is

[collapse]

Spoiler

The game system is also transferred. That is, when an RPG game character is transferred to a new world, the RPG system in the game will still bind the game character. For example, when you fight a boss in an RPG game, you will not be able to back down, the only choice is to defeat the boss or you die, now when in a new world, the system also participates in battles, whoever fights the boss of an RPG game will not be able to escape. The only choice is to beat the boss or die.

[collapse]

Also, so far I haven't seen any Plot Armor, if that character is going to die, it will die.

You can also see the character development, you will see the development of Ira Takuto's character in chapter 44+

Of course, there were events that made that happen ͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜ ͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜͜✺◟ (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ◞✺ <<less

I started reading Mynoghra after reading the manga and this is one of the best isekais stories I've found so far.

It's reminiscent of Overlord, where the MC is transported into a game-like world, but unlike other series, it focused the beginning of the story on civilization building. While the settings and themes aren't unique, the story so far doesn't have those annoying "status sheets" or infinite "level ups" so common in isekai stories. Even the mention of skills isn't in your face, as in other web novels.

Here's hope that this... more>> goodness continues and it will have a faithful reader in me. <<less

Nice story, but a bit random and kinda slow since they are doing a "shutin" strategy, which makes sense story wise

On another note, why are the chapters hidden?
the links aren't dead, the ads are just a bit aggressive and redirect you, but if you open the link in a new tab you can just go back to the chapter you cl**ked originally

I think the story idea that comes from a strategy game like WORLD OF WAR CRAFT is a fresh idea.
The part that I like the most is that the main character is not a perfect human and has a unique and even ridiculous side, he has to start building his empire from scratch, without the help of supporting figures who are overpowering or excessive cheat skills.

The other characters are also unique, the conflict between them can make me laugh or feel sorry.

The plot of the story is unpredictable, make... more>> readers curious about what will happen next. <<less

Interesting concept. Protagonist can be slightly annoying at times but overall still very good.

only major note is it gets quite gory at times.

otherwise a rare iseki into a strategy game as the commander you play but in a new world sorta like overlord but no base included in the box.

recommended if you enjoy rts/4x games, and base building novels.

Very interesting and imaginative LN. The enemies always come from different games and play by different rules so it is interesting how the MC in the end manages to beat them, often by using their own games' rules against them.

The story switches between action and drama with the occasional typical comedy skits thrown in to lighten up the atmosphere. The general atmosphere is more serious, dark and cruel so the reader must like that there are clashing comedy moments.

The big picture here is that basically a ton of bored gods... more>> turned this world into a battlefield by throwing in resurrected dead humans who can then have a real life taste of the game they used to play on earth with the endgoal that one of them conquers the world (and most likely destroy it in the process so the gods can move on to the next one and start anew).
So my guess is, in later novels (many, many years and volumes ahead from now) the real fight against the gods has to start at some point and that's where the real story starts off. Currently everyone, every enemy, is a victim in the end. So it's not really a fun battle knowing that, no matter how interesting. <<less

This is one of those strange situations where the official release is actually much further than translations. I'm writing with that in mind.

It's an interesting premise for sure, with the emphasis on resource management, base building, and 4x strategies but... stuff is so weird. Enemies, the difficulties they face. the antagonists in vol 4 especially, and what happened with them kinda annoyed me and made me consider dropping the novel. it was good until then. I'm going to wait until the next volume though to see how the author handles... more>> it. <<less

Isekai Age of Wonder (or Master of Magic for classic connoisseurs)

Isekai Apocalypse Mynoghra follows the story of Takuto (Takt on some translations) a professional 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) player that boasted as the strongest back on earth. He found himself to be isekai-ed as the leader of Mynoghra with only a single subject which doubles as a Hero, Atou the Sludge. The story focuses on the growth of his nation by assimilating native races in the world.

You might want to compare it to similar isekai-ed kingdom building... more>> stuff like Overlord but turned into unholy sludge of mess. The world building - or rather the rule of the world is all over the place as Isekai Apocalypse Mynoghra tried to be unique by mixing multiple Game Elements into a single world. It is suggested the god of this "isekai" world invited multiple individual ranging from actual people to game NPCs to "play" around.

Isekai Apocalypse Mynoghra has the potential to be a masterpiece. It could try to mix multiple stuffs like the way ReCreators handles it or it could go down the 4X road into similar novels. Isekai Apocalypse Mynoghra tried to do both and fails at them.

Translation is good, it has its faults but still readable despite weird choice on the formatting. The quality definitely dropped as the translation goes though. <<less

Interesting concept and I like kingdom building novels. So far the MC and his aide are from a strategy game and now characters from other games like RPG are also being transferred to the world. That is kinda interesting cause we don't know how the situation will develop from now on.

It is still in the beginning so let's see how this develops. So far there's nothing to hate.
