This is the tale of a man who had mastered how to “Parry”.

————

“I have no talent at all…”

At the age of 12, a young boy named Noru had decided to train himself in the mountains after being rejected by the capital’s official training centers for being “talentless”. He believed that, with enough hard work and effort, he could one day become like the protagonists that populate his childhood stories. Full of determination, he would practice every day with his makeshift wooden sword, endlessly repeating the only sword technique he knew—“Parry”.

The hours turned into days, the days turned into months, and the months turned into years.

Eventually, he had trained this one skill to such an extreme that he could snap a thousand branches with it. However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get the desired result, he couldn’t learn any new skills required to become a real adventurer. It may be time to let go of his dream. But he couldn’t. Not just yet. Knowing this, he returned to the capital again.

———–

This was a man of endless dedication, a man who used that dedication to become one of the strongest in the world. The only problem is, he didn’t know it yet.

This is probably one of the good novel that I read, The story is about a man that is EXTREMELY ignorant, he basically doesnt know anything about the world and understandably so because after doing everything he can to be an adventurer he thought he doesnt have what it takes so he isolate himself in the mountain for years of training and basically mastering all of his "basic skill". He is so ignorant that he doesnt know what goblins and minotaur look like and thought it was a normal cow... more>> so this novel is basically revolves around misunderstanding, he doesnt know sht so he think the enemy are just some weak monster when its basically an a-s rank monster. The interaction between the MC and the other characters is also kinda funny to read because of all the misunderstanding that keeps piling up. Overall Novel is good enough to make the read enjoyable which is kinda hard to achieve with all the tr*sh isekai and fantasy rn <<less

You know how propaganda works and is people are told the same lie enough then they will start to believe it and take it as truth. The MC here is suffering from something like that.

He has been told multiple times that he lacks talent, and does not have what it takes to be an adventurer, since his only skills are the weakest one of each class, though I am curious about the skill of the instructors especially the Ranger/hunter one who never even bother to teach the MC how to... more>> use a bow, and those skills are not sufficient.

This lead to him returning home and training for over a decade until he decided to try becoming an adventurer again despite having not learned any new skills.

So we have a MC who has been told that his skill are not enough, and will not develop to be enough, combined with a decade of believing this. Also due to his decade of isolation and safety, the MC has 0 frame of reference for how to compare his ability to that of others, He has never seen a monster or seen anyone fighting one.

He has developed his skills and does have some sense of his ability, but does not have the perspective to compare that to others, and all the positive responses he has gotten are from non-adventurers doing non-adventurer work which obviously does not compare to what the real adventures can do, since they are taking the higher paying jobs.

The first time he sees a monster, it is at a location where only the weakest appear so he naturally assumes it is a weak monster, that he kills it with his "weak" skills is proof enough. The guildmaster mentioning that there was a super-tough monster sighted (the one he killed) does not register since he has over a decade of believing his skills are not strong enough, and there is a believable excuse that the monster must have been somewhere else close by (since he could not see the entire area the guildmaster mentioned). He does not even have the knowledge to connect the name of the monster with what it looks like.

So what we have here is a MC was weak, and told by numerous people that unless he develops new skills he can not grow strong, trained in isolation to try and develop new skills but gained none, so based on multiple knowledgeable people telling him he is week, and the common sense of the world telling him he is weak still believe he is, since no one knows that those weak skills if trained enough can develop to make someone strong.

This is a case of a miss-informed and lacking necessary info MC, with over a decade to reinforce that misinformation. Not a delusional MC like others might claim. <<less

The main character is a delusional idiot. Also, the title and summary are misleading because he actually has quite a few (low-level) skills and he trained them all to an absurd degree at the same time as he trained Parry. Basically, he's a jack of all trades who becomes a master of all trades by training in the mountains somehow.

By the end of the first arc he'll make impossible achievements somehow without even noticing they were exceptional. Even if he's told he's exceptional, he ignores the person and goes on... more>> to think "I need to work harder to be a real adventurer!"

If you demand any level of intelligence whatsoever from your protagonist, give this a hard pass. I dropped it two stars for that alone, and it's more like a 2.5 as of the first arc. Other than that, the fights are entertaining enough and it doesn't take itself seriously. And the author at least doesn't pretend the main character has any amount of intellect. There's no romance or harem in the first arc, but there's at least one potential love interest... the protagonist's disconnect with reality makes a good romance impossible, though.

I'm being harsh, but if you can handle the delusions of mediocrity the protagonist has, it's an OK read. <<less

It's a pretty basic story powered entirely by misunderstandings and nobody involved stopping to check out easily available basic information. I'm really not a fan of misunderstandings at all, and it's pretty clear just 20 chapters in that they're never going to get cleared up until perhaps right as the novel ends.

If you like intelligent and/or self confident protagonists, don't even bother with this novel. If easily cleared up misunderstandings that last forever make you internally scream, avoid this novel at all costs. If neither of those things bother you... more>> and you're desperate for something to read, I suppose you could do worse. <<less

At first I hated it and almost dropped it, when the MC mistook the Minotaur for “just a weak cow”, the MC was just waaay too dumb. But then it suddenly started to get fun when everyone else took him for super strong and wise and both parties misunderstood everything the other party said because of their different viewpoints. I really love it now.

I'm not a huge fan of communication failures as a basic plot point, but since they aren't being used to create romantic drama, I don't mind much.

It's fairly amusing to me how the MC keeps assuming that the enemies are weak because the MC believes himself to be weak, but if you hate dense protagonists, you'll hate this story.

The novel and its misunderstandings are genuinely amusing (at least, it hasn't grown old by c40), but perhaps the best/saddest part is that the enemy is actually really, really cool. The enemy king rejected the fact that humans are based on skills and designed magic technology based on science and careful experimentation. He probably advanced magic technology by 100 years, and his charisma and leadership brought together one of the largest and most prosperous nations in the novel's world's history. Sure, he's a bit of a warmonger, but I guess... more>> the MC is also one himself given how he

nuked the enemy capital

[collapse]

The novel sadly tells the tale of a genius magician and king who never underestimated his opponents and always stayed calm, but who simply faced a single cheat guy with a single cheat power (i.e. The MC).

Spoiler

I mean, the MC redirects beam attacks with a sword swipe. How does that even work?! He doesn't seem to be holding the sword in place to redirect the beam like a mirror, he just swipes once and the beam redirects forevermore. When he fights a dragon, the dragon attacks with laser-style light beams - how is a black sword reflecting light instead of blocking/absorbing it?

[collapse]

The author seems very preoccupied with the image of his battles rather than logical fidelity, which can damper the reading experience (hence the 3/5 stars), but the novel is overall a fun casual read. <<less

The few first chapters are good and I thought this novel is underrated.

Until the protagonist appeared as an annoying bastard. I failed to understand his mindset and how he valued his skill and other people he met. I feel he is like robot without learning ability, but how can he train his skill until OP as he appeared in story with that intelligence. I guess its like RPG when your skill exp go up just because you used it over and over.

The MC is delusional, and it's not just denseness or a lack of self confidence, it's just forced and awkward writing. I really tried hard to get through to the latest translated chapter but I really didn't want to.

Spoiler

The MC is already at the top of the food chain in this world, stronger than even dragons, but he still thinks that he's not strong enough. At the latest translated chapter, there was a moment where I had hoped that he realizes how strong he really is but nope. This novel just wasted a lot of my time.
