A cheat-ability farming novel, featuring elements of cultivation + food + base-building.

As an ordinary Plant Spirit Master in a border city, Mu Sheng never expected to carry the bloodline of the Flame Farmer within her.

Then, she was forcibly bound by a miraculous tree spirit.

But here’s the thing—while other people’s contracted plant spirits are fresh, natural, and cute, why does her tree spirit seem a little different?

Let’s summarize her contracted tree spirit’s hobbies:

Loves to fight.

Is really good at fighting.

And only then, loves farming.

Mu Sheng: “…”

Because of having a combat-type plant spirit, Mu Sheng became the strongest Plant Spirit Master in the post-apocalyptic world.

This novel is a bit difficult to rate. I don't know if it's a problem with the translation or the original writing, but sometimes it can be quite convoluted and confusing. Still, it's so much fun!

Summary

The novel takes place in a world hundreds of years after a cataclysmic event triggered the downfall of society as we know it. Most humans mutated and gained abilities known as "esper, " and similarly, mutated plants and beasts reclaimed their place in the new world. Now, humanity, which has established new societies... more>> on a smaller scale, has had to learn to coexist with these species, resulting in a considerable decrease in human territory.

Because all of nature mutated during the apocalypse, the very nature of survival had to change. Even planting or raising animals had to evolve depending on esper abilities, such as plant-type abilities, which can control cultivation so that they do not mutate during their growth. The story begins when the protagonist, Mu Sheng, enters into a contract with a "plant-spirit" that grants her exceptional abilities to survive in this world that values strength.

Review:

This novel has a complex setting that can be confusing and full of info-dump.

At times it seems like it's going to develop into something more serious, but even when that's the case, it still remains a slice-of-life, that is, even with important events happening, it reads like a simple novel without complex drama and action. Which is a good thing, since that was the initial proposal,

The second part is more rushed than the first because this novel has a stronger plot presence than other slice-of-life novels in this feel-good niche. So the author had to start unraveling the various clues he placed at the beginning. But although the quality dropped a bit, it still remained interesting enough to be enjoyable.

Strengths:

The creation and maintenance of the farm is my favorite of all that I've read.

It's done gradually, rewardingly, and satisfyingly, nothing like the "instant click farm" I see in many novels. The reason this gradual approach greatly improves this plot niche is that, besides being more satisfying, it also prevents the novel from reaching the point where the bait used to attract the reader becomes irrelevant quickly. In this case, the bait is the farming that evokes the feeling of playing cozy games like Stardew Valley.

The way the companion plants were portrayed was very good; I'm always tricked by novels with Pokemon-style pets and plants only todrp them, disappointed because the protagonist exploits the pets and companions and treats them like s*aves. (I'm looking at you male-oriented isekai).

The protagonist needs the help of the plants and animals on the farm quite a bit, but she also treats them with respect, takes care of their needs, and has a real friendship with them,

it's much more satisfying to read that way.

Weak Points:

Info-dump and excessive details that confused the story at unnecessary moments. Furthermore, I would have liked to see more real growth from the secondary characters, and the small, tiny hints of

romance added at the end of the novel were quite unnecessary in my opinion.

I found the setting interesting, but unnecessarily complex for a novel focused on watching the protagonist thrive and help others. For an adventure novel, this setting could have shone brighter.

Now, because this novel, whether due to translation or the original writing, conveys information in a rather confusing way, I'm going to summarize some things about the world's context and story. [Context Spoiler ]

Spoiler

Esper abilities: Esper abilities are based on the elements wood, metal, water, wind, fire, and earth. Variations can occur within these base elements, as is the case with the protagonist, who is a Plant-type esper.

    • Esper abilities can be separated into levels: 1-3 low, 3-6 medium, 6-9 high, 9-10 demi-gods, It's said that level 11 espers reach Divinity.

The World: The world was divided into three large territories: the territory of the Beasts, the forest people (plants), and the humans.

    • The human territory on the continent where the story takes place was divided into 5 large areas: Fengdu, The Western Regions, Southern Wilderness, Tianchi, and Spring City, where most of the story takes place.
    • Spring City is a large city surrounded by 4 other border towns, which are part of its territory.
    • Of these territories, the protagonist resides on the northern border, but establishes her farm in the southern part of the northern border. Therefore the novel sometimes refers to the place as "south, " which can be confusing since one moment they refer to the region as a whole and another moment to a specific part of the region without specifying which of the two.

Beasts: Beasts in this world have also mutated and developed sharper abilities and intelligence.

    • Humans with esper "taming" abilities can form contracts with these beasts, as well as help them evolve, grow, etc.
    • Beasts only gain abilities from level 2 onwards; these abilities are called talents and are also based on the elements.
    • Beasts born at level 1 have less growth potential because they were born at the lowest possible level.
    • There are also normal animals that exhibit mutation levels that can develop powers and eventually evolve.
    • As well as very high-level beasts that have gained intelligence equal to or greater than that of humans, and have even formed their own societies.

Plants: Plants in this world have also mutated and developed characteristics based on the elements. So we have plants that are of the "Water, Wind, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal" type. There are, Magical Plants, Normal crops, Mutant Plants, Plant Spirit, and Spiritualized plants.

    • Conscious Plants or Magical Plants. These plants have evolved and gained consciousness, possessing intelligence similar to humans and powers also based on the elements. Human espers with plant abilities can form contracts with these plants where they can provide mutual aid. These plants can produce fruits that are accumulations of their power during the evolutionary process. These fruits can help humans evolve their abilities, but generally carry a risk factor and side effects.
    • Mutant Plants are plants that were born and grew naturally without interference from an esper controlling their mutation. They lack consciousness, but some can move and act aggressively by instinct, and possess "intelligence" slightly inferior to that of animals before the apocalypse. These plants must be controlled by espers to become suitable crops for human consumption.
    • To farm in this world, it is necessary to have plant-type esper skills that can contain the mutant factor of the plants so that they grow into plants suitable for consumption. During cultivation, spiritualized plants can develop. These plants carry energy that, when consumed, can help espers of the same elemental type as the plant evolve.
    • Do not confuse a spiritualized plant with a plant spirit. A spiritualized plant is a plant without consciousness, a cultivation suitable for consumption. A Spirit Plant is a spirit that was born from a plant.
    • Plant Spirits: Plant spirits are similar to magical plants, with a certain level of intelligence and abilities, but instead of a corporeal being, they are accumulations of energy that are usually born from a specific plant, and their powers are related to the plant category from which they were born. For example, a potato belongs to the earth type; a spirit born from a potato will have abilities related to the earth type. These spirits are a great help when cultivating the land, and that is why all plant-type espers hope to enter a symbiotic state with one of them.
    • Symbiosis is a process similar to contracts, but more complex, where both the human esper and the plant spirit gradually merge and synchronize both their powers and their vitality.

False Tags: Someone REALLY wants to trick people into reading this novel. There are many directly false tags; I will try to remove them, but if they return, below is a list of false tags I've seen.

ps: There's a lot of tags there aren't exactly false, but are stretching it too far, and I'm side-eyeing hard the people that added them. On the list below only the completely false ones

Spoiler

Apocalypse: The novel itself, in my opinion, doesn't quite fit the apocalypse theme. It's more of a post-apocalyptic dystopia with a possible second apocalypse about to happen. If you're expecting a novel where order and society have already fallen, and that's the scenario in which the novel takes place, this one probably doesn't fit.If I had to categorize it, I'd say it's more of a novel in the "Building my farm in times of famine" niche with a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting.

Academy: An academy is mentioned in passing a few times; this tag shouldn't be here.

Artifact Crafting: False. There are people creating artifacts, but it has little presence in the story.

Complex Family: False; the protagonist's family couldn't be more harmonious.

Cooking: There's some food p*rn, but not in the context of the tag indicating relevance and weight in the story. False.

Cultivation: What? NO. Some similarities in the power system, but that's it. It doesn't come close to being cultivation.

Fox Spirits: False.

Game Elements: False. The closest thing to it is the concept of evolving, but not like in games, just getting stronger.

Military: Quite forced. There's a presence of some organizations like the military, because of society and wars, but the military itself isn't the focus, just as the military structure barely appears.

Tragic Past: Hmm, this is true and false at the same time, because the protagonist's father disappeared, and her family is trying to find him, but the weight of this isn't used much in the story, which is more of a slice-of-life.

Unique Cultivation Technique: This is not cultivation. False
