This novel was an emotional rollercoaster. I personally really liked the main plot, with Prophets and time-related shenanigans. It almost reminds me of Mist in some ways (... more>>

). The review by @suoeiya is what made me decide to read, so I recommend reading their review too.

The "romance" in volume 1 was not my cup of tea—as @suoeiya already said, the romance starts off VERY rocky. They try to figure out how to exist with each other, which is a necessary process considering their inexperience, personal circumstances, and backgrounds/personalities. I made it through volume 1 thanks to the forewarning by @suoeiya, and it was totally worth it. Their communication improved so much. I was really amazed at how much they both emotionally matured alongside each other.

The MC impressed me. The way he acted seemed quite realistic, and I'd say the way he fared in those situations and adapted is better than how the average person would fare—not like a genius whose line of thinking I can't fathom with insanely good thinking speed and thought processes but like a real person who tries to adapt and comes to reasonable conclusions based on what the situation presents. The things he (and the ML) went through, especially mentally/emotionally, were real struggles, and I felt like I took an emotional beating from this story (I still like the story though). Later he also pretty much gets

, which in and of itself was depressing. He becomes stronger, so even if he seems a bit helpless at the start, don't feel too frustrated—he hasn't been in that world for long, and all things considered, adapted very quickly.

As for the other characters:

ML — Very proud of him! His persistent, earnest growth and communication was satisfying, and he was the main factor keeping the MC afloat and sane. Indeed, I now see why MC calls him a sparrow~ 🌸 He's also an excellent audience member! ≪— This refers to a rather specific moment at a later point in the story, so don't worry if it doesn't make sense to you right now. Toya — Her personality is a breath of fresh air in that apocalyptic world and a natural counter to how the main antagonist acts. One of my favorite characters.

Black Foot — The MC saw how precious he was from the start. Actually a gentle and responsible person. My favorite character.

Doctor —

I've been waiting for him to get his just desserts, but maybe that happens in the extras. Sure, he worked hard at the end, but that doesn't excused what he previously did and how he acted.

The Guard — Reliable. Gives off older sister energy.

With all the tragedies happening left and right, I almost thought it would be a BE—but don't worry! It's a sweet, sweet HE. Trust in the process 🥹 Also, while I did say the story has many tragedies, I wouldn't say it should have a "Tragedy" tag. It's hard to explain without spoiling, so try reading the novel, and I hope readers don't drop it out of sadness or pain.

I don't think I'll have the emotional bandwidth to reread this story anytime soon, but it's among my favorites. It leaves a lasting impression. Also, I found many nice classical pieces from this novel—"Funeral March" is now one of my favorites. I wonder if the author has some background in music/piano. Special thanks to the translator (s) ! The translation was understandable, and even though sometimes the translation for certain proper nouns are a bit inconsistent, it didn't disrupt the story. Also, the story is in present tense, but it's consistent, and it may be on purpose? There's a quote that may or may not relate to this: "Our story has to stay in the present tense. I refuse to obey the rules of a world that wants to turn it into a dead relic" (Ch34). Here are some notes (for the translation by @suoeiya) to clear up some potential confusion:

Lawless Destroyer = wicked Destroyer = merciless Destroyer. The modifier changes a bit throughout the story, but "Destroyer" remains the same. Big Brother = B. B. = Bibi (usually Wu Zetian refers to him like this) ; probably a reference to the book 1984 by George Orwell, a popular dystopian novel where the strongly controlling government is referred to as "big brother". There are two people referred to as "the Doctor". One works at the Western Fortress, and the other is the leader of the Eastern Fortress. Iwoldo = Iwoldo yuyeongdo = Iwolyuyeongdo, etc. They all refer to the exact same weapon. (As of 4/27/2026) : Chapter 21 isn't correctly linked in the table of contents—it goes straight to chapter 22. You can find it by typing "chapter 21" in the search bar in that same website, and chapter 21 (Volume 3 Part 1) should pop up. In volume 4,

near the end during the final battle, it says they meet Wolf Fang at the Eastern Fortress, but I'm pretty sure the one they met there was actually Hyena. I also don't think that Wolf Fang would have boldly interacted with the mermaids like that—that seemed more like something Hyena would do. The actual Wolf Fang was at Gwanghwamun with the piano, waiting to rendezvous with the main group. I think.

This novel is quite popular in KR and rated 4.9/5 stars, so I'm not sure why the rating on NU is so low.

Ever had that feeling where you KNOW a novel is going to be one of your favorites after reading the first chapter? Something about the way the author writes, the realism, their attention to detail, the characters, it just hooks you all instantly. This book is exactly that for me. So, brimming with delight, my past naïve self started reading what I thought was a comfort-read. Not... more>> knowing I would have 30 heart attacks, develop early ulcers from the stress this novel put me through, fail all my classes because I was hopelessly addicted, and cry enough to flood the Nile River. Dw no tragedy tag in sight!!

Let me introduce you to the novel!!

✅ Set in a heavy post-apocalyptic world destroyed by sinkholes. In this world, there are also Prophets who can tell the future.

✅ The MC is one of those Prophets. He is NOT passive, weak, or pathetic (though it may seem like it in the beginning). He's the complete opposite. As he gets used to this world, he becomes strong, both mentally and physically.

✅ ML is one of those cold, distant, and rough commanders. But he's SOO cute on the inside!! MC even calls him little sparrow (when he is quite literally referred to as a hawk)

✅ This story is SCARY. The author builds tension and stakes in a way I've never experienced on this website. Characters will die. Your favorite characters will get hurt. You never know what's going to happen because the author has no mercy. You will be terrified of the antagonists.

✅ THE ROMANCE IS SOOO GOOD!!! Two broken characters desperately clinging to each other after the world destroys them again and again. But overcoming such adversities and growing stronger each time because they are each others salvation......

The romance starts off VERY rocky in the beginning though. Fear not!! It will only last for one volume, as to prepare you for romance that will have you CLAWING AT THE WALLS BC THEY ARE SO SWEEEETT

✅ The author also just knows how to write. This is genuinely one of the best constructed novels I've ever read on this website. Just excellently written mystery, tension, conflict, and perfect pacing.

✅... and the smut is life changing. I can't elaborate much due to TOS, but ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT THE ML IS LUCKY ASF

‼️ HEAVY WARNING: The ML is quite... overbearing during such scenes ‼️ Please be warned b4 you read this as they do include elements of non-con. But again, this only happens in the beginning and is easily skippable. The ML is genuinely a neon green flag.

I've posted my translations on the side, since I really want to give this masterpiece the translation it deserves (that's hopefully higher-quality). Mine will also be volumes, so they will be much longer and further along!! So don't be surprised when it ends at chapter 40 with each chapter being around 15k words~ <<less
