Wu Chenghe, a military doctor who served in the UN peacekeeping forces for two years, thought he was blown up in the war, only to find himself hijacked in the interstellar era just after transmigrating! What’s even more unexpected is that his father is the supreme commander of the expeditionary army, and he is an illegitimate child. Perhaps these could still be accepted, but what surprised him the most was that he, a grown man, turned out to be a “guide”.

How could he play the role of “the coolest second-generation guide of the expeditionary army” well?

Set in the future world of a thousand years later, combined with the relatively new setting of the sentinel/guide, the story tells of an official’s second-generation who crossed over but ended up as a pitiful hostage, and the rebellious emo who knew and loved each other, working together to build a harmonious universe.

It started out fine, but there were certain elements that bothered me more and more as they continued to pop up.

1. It’s supposed to be thousands of years in the future after humanity has left earth and colonized a new planet. But for some reason the author keeps referring to characters with current nationalities? Like this person is German, this one is American, this one is Chinese? These countries aren’t supposed to exist anymore in this story?

2. Continuing on that point, the author comes off as racist. Very much leaning... more>> into racist stereotypes for bg characters, as well as having characters saying some outright racist remarks.

3. The dad. Eww. Just eww

I was hopeful for this story but the moment I stepped back for a moment I couldn’t look past its issues. The fact that these issues weren’t one offs but kept appearing throughout the story bothered me too much to continue. <<less

The main problems I have with this novel:

  • Like some other older BG romance or BL web novels, the melodramatic plot elements are super over the top (to the point where it gets old). Basically, if you can conceive of a problem leading to drama that could happen in this type of story, it did.
  • The MC's dad,
    Spoiler

who is so creepy -- I won't ruin it for you but he's a tr*sh can filled with toxic waste in the form of a human being.

    [collapse]
  • In terms of sci-fi guideverse stories, this one is substandard. Meaning, the action elements are all over the place, and the majority of the plot is a hot mess that doesn't make a lot of logical sense.
  • The romance between the CP is quite problematic, maybe because
    Spoiler

the MC really rejected the idea of being a guide, and hated the concept of a guideverse (well, like omegaverse the power dynamics are indeed ridiculous usually, so I don't blame him).

    [collapse]
I don't even know why I read so many chapters? I guess it's a bit interesting in parts, but I really couldn't tolerate the large scale lack of logic in the majority that I did read, so I dropped it and placed in my DNF list (did not finish).

I agree with one of the criticisms that, if a situation can turn into a drama, it is so every time. However, the plot is amazing and the contexte more developped than in other similar stories.

I really like that the romance is part of the story but the MC's story is far more interesting on how to survive as a guide and rise among the others.

The context is complex and rich. That's really booking.

It is not light. Sometimes serious issues are just rugged under the carpet for the sake of... more>> the plot, but damn! It's not boring and I like the parallel between the feminin conditions and the struggle for guides to be recognised as human beings. <<less

All in all super recomended, but you cannot expect a flat, short sweet story. It is a ligh read, not intensive read (no need to memorise details, no info dumping), but the story it is deep (it makes you question our own society). Not sad, just deep and you need to be prepared for growth of characters.

‐------------- a little more in deep review---------

So, you cannot approach this story expecting trivial literature that is light and fluffy with villains with no substance and one sided good characters. It has a markings... more>> of a great literary work. Which means it makes you feel. Feel bad, feel sad, hopefuly, expectant, distressed, disgusted... it is really well thought out. People are deep, have their own secrets, agendas, not everything is written out. It is a story of a change for the characters and for the story universe.

The story is happening a little more than 1000 years in the future after humanity left earth after disaster and mutated after some alien experiments/evolution. The society lives in an united goverment, while also preserving the idea of how people of european/ asian/african citizen look and gestures- I think these aren't really used for anything other than presenting the character looks to readers and the fact that in most cases humans do prefer company of similar people (the look of tipical greek, norvegian, slav, irish etc. didnt really changed much between 1000 to 2000- just fashion and language changed the most so it is not really off to me, to describe someone as having russian look or something-but some may find offensive or inapropriate, but looks dont really change that much in 1000-2000 years 🤔.

The sub-themes that are explored are political ambitions that couses the fall of morals, civil war, nacism and racism (guide based

after first guides appeared they were killed due to fear, later raised in captivity to mellow out- the author is referencing the genocide and gender based discrimination and patriarchal society that raised powerles women pre 20 century (no rights)

), the effect of enviroment on peoples behaviour and idea of love, sacrifice and hope.

Through presenting themes in a different enviroment it makes them foreign enought so that we start thinking about them in a different way. At first it starts as a light read but soon we start to pick out the problems which may make story for some less enjoyable. The reality is that with the way the story is framed it all clicks into place, nothing seemes forced
Spoiler

for example the main characters father is power hungry sentiel, that wants to establish himself as an emperor but for his greed married a sentiel (which he has some affection for but not enought not to look for guide to prolong his life), he want a hidden guide so his reputation wouldnt tank, wouldnt need to separate from his wifes support, so when his and ex girlfriend's son shows signs of being a hidden guide, he becomes obsessedwith him and wants to make him his- unfortunately that is the MC

[collapse]
. It is a story of growth in need, of continuation of good peoples heritage and the hope for the future even in dark times, that in times of need or darknes someone needs to steep up.

For the main couple the story is good, the side couples each have its own experience (2 happy, 1 bitter/sad), which the author assigned 4 different types of love and sticked to it even if reader wouldn't like it. It is not strong on the romance like others ao or guide/sentiel world, where there is blind love due to hormones or just sweet interactions. It is realistic, sometimes selfish, sometimes unreasonable, sometimes rash or even maybe seem like it isn't deep. But at the end I think it is more focused on finding your own path in unclear times, not everyone wins, not everything is permanent and experieces changes us.
Spoiler

liks when MC first couldnt imagine/accept having the abilityto get pregnant and afterward the acceptance of his first children- which can be aplicable to some experiance of womens who arent really happy with it and the growth of acceptance with it- I dont think all women think this is light or happy responsibility but they come to term with it and so did MC before getting pregnant for the second time when he started to wish for it to happen in contrast with before first pregnancy

Since there were only 1 positive review so far I thought I'd also add one. I agree with many points another reviewer, A.S.P., already stated. This is NOT a light and fluffy story, do not come here expecting it to be. It DOES make you feel many emotions, some even deeply. Even I had moments of bawling my eyes out, or extreme disgust and wanting to punch someone. This author done a great job in creating something that draws you in and being able to hit such a wide range... more>> of emotions.

Somethings I want to point out from some negative reviews. I hope that understanding these points can help someone decide whether or not this novel is worth reading beyond seeing just negative reviews.

  1. Someone mentioned about how novels where MCs having no memories/amnesia of their current world being hit or miss. Well, that would be the case if that was what happened, which it did not. MC is seriously NOT the OG. This is confirmed way later in the novel, you just have to get to that point to know the truth of how he came to be there.
  2. Yes, the father is just ew. He is totally cringe worthy. But, he does get what is coming to him in the end, and not just once. Who doesn't like revenge or seeing karma work their magic?
  3. The illogical guideverse and problematic MC. This is not a typical guideverse story just as some ABO are not typical fluffy Omegaverses. It is dark/deep just as even our own history has dark points. The Holocaust and Women's rights are some of the themes used to describe things happening here in this novel. I do believe MC is entitled to some time to adjust to being a guide that he literally woke up to being. Especially with also how guides are treated, who would accept that type of treatment?
  4. The use of current nationalities are not saying that the character being described IS that nationality. It is used as a descriptor of what the character looks like. The MC is from our current timeline, so what is wrong with using our current terms in his head?

I don't really know why I was still reading it to this moment but it's not worth reading.

First the MC father is disgusting with a lot of strange thoughs about MC, second the age difference between MC and ML is 7 years where MC is 17.

ML is waiting for MC to be an adult which makes him a pe*ophile.

... more>> The whole world building is bad. Action time should be in future with a lot of technology, where nationality doesn't exist anymore but the author still adds it.

Remember, this is my point of view <<less

I read more of this than I should, then decided to stick it out to the end only to get fed up and drop it.

This was a mess. It's always hit and miss when the MC doesn't have the memories from their new world and this story didn't handle it well.

From the first scene where he was allowed to treat multiple patients before being kicked out I knew the author was going to waffle around and and the change the characters to suit the plot and that's what happened.

One commenter... more>> said this was a social commentary and there was character growth but for me this characters were one dimensional with as much depth as a flat blank piece of paper.

The father was disgusting the set up had promise but everything was abandoned in favor of throwing one dramatic situation after the other.

Lastly, this is another one where the main MALE character feels female coded and I'm not talking about the mpreg scenario. <<less
