Did anyone read this novel after reading "Windburg"? Maybe I read these books in the wrong order and should have read this one first... I feel as if I would betray Roselyn (FL from "Windburg") by rooting for Evelyn in her search for happiness.

The growing love between Roselyn and Jered (main characters from "Windburg"), as well as the obstacles they faced on their path to happiness, deeply moved me. Nevertheless, living with someone in the shadow of their former great love, being chosen as a wife because you resembled his... more>> ex—is a terrible blow to the ego. While reading Windburg, I felt that burning jealousy and sincere dislike for Evelyn, even though I knew she and Jared weren't to blame for anything, beacuse everyone has the right to have past lovers : (

I wonder if anyone else has a similiar thoughts about this novel? <<less

The story itself is good. But like most people who read Windburg first, I find it difficult to review this prequel objectively without getting emotional. I feel heartbroken every time there's a scene with Jared and Evelyn. Even in Chapter 1, I cried because it felt like seeing my bestfriend husband's past with his ex-girlfriend, hahaha. As a reader, that's how I feel, and I can't imagine how Rosalyn must feel, (FL in Windburg) T.T. She must have read "The Blooming Manor" while feeling jealous. I get annoyed every... more>> time I read how Jared and Clifton flirt with Evelyn. Evelyn and Clifton dated romantically, while Jared in maxvile was like a madman because he was left alone. What's annoying is that Evelyn still dares to think Jared couldn't possibly still have feelings for her and have been celibate for three years because of her. Didn't they date for over a year? It's amazing that Evelyn still doesn't understand how deeply Jarred feels for her. Thinking about how Rosalyn had to endure Jarred's unpleasant behavior due to his emotional trauma from the start of their marriage until she became pregnant is painful and unfair. Especially since the author really emphasizes that Jarred is deeply in love with Evelyn, no matter how much pain he's endured from her.

Jarred says in his letter that he doesn't feel Rosalyn resembles his ex, but wasn't he the one who mentioned at the beginning of the chapter that he remembers Rosalyn's name even though he "thinks" he doesn't remember her face (lately he realized he remember it) because her name is similar to Evelyn? I'm not really sure about the hair color tho, because the rosalyn's phisical's figure that jared notice first and remember is her gray eyes intead. The perfume too, apparently he still remembered the perfume even when Jared met Evelyn a month before he returned to Maxvile (what did he do instead of throwing it away as soon as he was about to get married?? He said he had forgotten about it for a long time, I thought he had forgotten about it for about a few years but it turns out he had only forgotten about it for 2-3 months.. Haaa). So it wasn't too long before he smelled Rosalyn's roses parfume while having tea together. But the painful part was all the characters who know Jarred's past (the Glenn family and the queen) agree and share the same thoughts: that he (unconciost or conciostly) choose her because she resemble her ex fiancee. And it doesn't seem possible that he doesn't feel that way because Jarred was actively seeking a duchess candidate after returning from Isen and meeting Evelyn. He clearly married with an "unbalanced" mindset and remained tied to his ex-girlfriend. I feel like Jarred did everything for Evelyn but not enough for Rosalyn. He built a yellow-rose (evelyn's fav flower) garden in the place he imagined living with Evelyn even before she accepted his proposal, but he only gave Rosalyn a single cream-colored rose from a vase in his own room and a necklace (that himself adminted the laziest gift). I felt angry because Rosalyn was too kind, like an angel. So from reading these two books, I feel like Rosalyn loves Jarred more. That's why Jarred always feels "relaxed" when expressing his feelings to Rosalyn. Evelyn certainly receives the form of "love like fire" (the book Rosalyn reads and wants to experience in the Windburg side story) from Jarred. It's so painful because there's no second male lead in Windburg who gives Rosalyn more attention. I know Jarred has suffered enough, but Rosalyn is also pitiful. The only person who is the happiest, gets the main character's privileges, and receives all the attention is Evelyn. Even Rosalyn's admiration for Evelyn is painful as a reader. Maybe because of Jarred's suffering, he deserves an angel like our beloved Rosalyn. So, the pain comes from being frustrated that Evelyn has a much more colorful love life compared to Rosalyn. From the reader's perspective, I pray I won't end up with a husband with a past like Jarred's, sincerely T.T <<less

I honestly don't like Evelyn's character. She repeated the same mistake of sleeping with a man who is not clear whether he will marry her or not. She admitted that. She was in doubt but she still allowed the relationship. Keep walking. She didn't tell cliffton about jared, and still wanted to go out with jared. If cliffton knew jared was evelyn's ex, he wouldn't want to be around jared for long. He wouldn't let that happen.. Evelyn didn't give Jared time to straighten out their relationship, and she interrupted... more>> at the dinner table, which would have been very rude, and Jared's mother caught on. (You can see how. There is a big difference between Roselyn and Evelyn. I fell in love with Roselyn). Evelyn left Jared when Jared needed someone, at that time he lost his 2 brothers and had to become a duke. Evelyn ran away even though. Jared asked them to have breakfast alone tomorrow morning, he didn't even want to wait one night. And yes, after meeting Cliffton, after only a month, they immediately slept together. Meanwhile, Jared didn't move on for 3 years. <<less

Pardon me if this review is just a raw feeling mix about windburg and evelyn's dale (it's a trauma dump review haha). I read the sequel first after all.

First, I want to tell you guys, if you don't want to suffer like me, and really want to read both books objectively, read this prequel first. The author is truly talented after all, and you can see every scene and monologue/dialoge in windburg with deeper, even different meaning. The characters, world-building, plot, narrative, and dialogue are all excellent. I don't think... more>> I've ever read another kwebnovel that adopts the european aristocratic world setting as consistently and beautifully as her artworks (Evelyn, windburg, trisen mantion are really good). The best part of Evelyn's Dale for me is it contains more aristocratic bickering dialogue between Jared and Clifton, so it's very fun and interesting to read, like a duel, but instead of swords, they're yap with a grace demeanor haha. Each character's personality fits their background and makes sense (they're not the type of characters who really have extraordinary powers. Clifton and Jared still have to be polite to each other even if they're rivals, Jared still obeys and intimidated by the queen even if she's a Duke from a big family- u know in most of webnovel, most of the north duke usually have a really magnificent soldier/money/power and not obey even the emperor, clifton is not restrain from s*xual relionship before he met eve, Evelyn isn't an amazing social butterfly or really bold to every noble even if she's smart main character type, she's quite shy and less talkative too because she is a commoner, if you compare her to other FLs. They're not perfect, they're realistic and I think that frustrates some readers. I admit I couldn't read all the chapters completely, I only read the scenes with Jared (trust me I felt stabbed every time), but I can't help but wonder if I had read the prequel first, maybe I would have enjoyed this work more. Because all aspects are good except I can't stand seeing Evelyn, I get sick remembering Rosalyn's suffering haha. I want to read this prequel because of windburg after all. After I read the prequel too, I became understand how every scene mean and psicologycal dilema every character come from.

I think that Jared and Eve is simply not good at communication. Well if you read windburg, you can see all of the progress in Rose and Jared relionship is mostly because rose take initiatife. But Evelyn, as a commoner I think it's really make sense that she is more passive, so maybe their dating era is not far from how clift and eve relationship going, there is no deeptalk whatsoever. With that contract marriage, she can't trust jared enough to think that other live route will give her a happier future. But it's still hurt the one that hurts the most is rosalyn instead. Well, it was more Jared's fault, Evelyn was wrong for leaving without proper communication, and making Jared still stuck in his "free" days. But Jared still had the choice to heal first before meeting a new lover. And yeah, if you think about it, who wants to marry a guy whose family doesn't accept you, you definitely won't be accepted in his social enviroment in the future, and your only dream of becoming a writer is dashed, he never told you about the contract marriage before and he said it was his decision to forbid you from becoming a writer, even though he knows that it's the most important thing for you? Realistically, I would leave too. But evelynn, at least say a proper goodbye and have a deeptalk beetwen you two T.T he want to talk to you when you guys had a breakfast right when you in stable condition, it's not even 24 hours to wait.. But still, even after getting married, Jared still can't and DOESN'T WANT to heal his wounds, instead making innocent people suffer (Well, at least Rosalyn understands that Jared acts like that not because she's worthless, but because he's an as*hole who still has trauma).

The painful part is I think.. In windburg that's just naration and dialoge about how Jared fell in love with his late fiancee, we can brush it off, but in in this prequel, you realized how truly great his feeling is. So it's gonna been better if Jared simply getting sick, hurt, and hate her until rosalyn heal him. But instead, you can see how pure the love was (maybe before the time skip idk, Jared himself said he doesn't know when his feeling became obsession), but still, the pain that his endure is not resent to evelyn but himself. Well that's not even a displeasent side of him. It's a really lovely and typical 2nd male lead demeanor haha.

But, dispite I know all of this (im not FL like rosalyn after all, I just a ordinary human, woman hahah I felt jelous), after read this webnovel, I know that Jarred can be very romantic.

He proposed to Evelyn for one year since the start of their dating, he made a writer village with her fav flower, they spend a full week together in a villa after their engagment and do the ehemehem all the time (even after side story ends rose and Jared never even to holiday once haha how ironic), he always this side of obsession to evelyn (i think his far expressive in this prequel) - he call her my eve all the time in his monologue, he praise her all the time, serve her fav tea- chamomile tea for her when the 3 characters having dinner because she can't drink wiskey (rose had to drink coffee everytime they breakfast together before she mention she want to drink tea? He doesn't even bother to ask, and she want to close to him so she tried to drink the coffe), don't want to mention how he flirt to proposed to her again in isen, and you guys have to read Jared's letter to eve 2 months after she runaway! He says that she is the first and last his true love hahaha.

So why he still looking like that in windburg? Likeee rosalyn have to mention that she felt unfair she doesn't falling in love before, and only after that he offer to take her on a date. I want to see a violet garden in maxvile too for roselyn (since he built a rose garden for eve) - ugh! Initiative jaredd, come onn. But u know, duchess, she more want to see his husband and children to live happy and do her role perfectly than all that sentimental gift. It's the same to Evelyn, more than romantic feeling, she want to be a writer, even if she not meet clifton, or if clifton not support her dream, maybe she not gonna choose him too. And she can at the end. She grow, and still firm with her choice. She find a suitable partner and achieve her goal.

Maybe i'll change my review in the future after I can read the book troughly. Maybe the only way to read this prequel is thinking that Jared in here is different jarred we all knew in windburg hahaa <<less
