Jared L. Windburg

The 13th Duke of Windburg, known as the “King of the North,” and heir to thirteen titles.

Master of the grand Maxville Estate, an ancestral home with 800 years of history.

A man who had failed spectacularly in his first love.

“I am considering hosting a ball.”

Faced with the unavoidable duty of producing an heir, the Duke of Windburg decides to hold a ball to select a duchess.

He chooses Roselyn Eleanor Fairfield, the eldest daughter of a viscount.

“Expect nothing. That way, you won’t be disappointed.”

Thus begins a marriage bound by duty.

Tuesday nights become the designated time for their sole obligation: to produce an heir.

As the weeks pass, the Duke, who views it merely as a duty, and the Duchess, who dutifully plays her part, find their lives increasingly entwined with these Tuesday nights.

OMG I really love this novel. It's perfect for those looking for stories that don't have too much drama. It doesn't have an over the top kind of story, which is something I really like. It feels really different from the other novels in here and I'm confused as to why this has such a low rating. The pace is great, it's not slow nor fast, just right in my opinion. They don't suddenly become close and we could really see their love blooming. It's quite angsty and not overly... more>> romantic but I really do like it cause it feels more realistic that way. The characters are great, they are not perfect and that's what makes it special. OVERALL: 9/10 <<less

A gem angst.

I’ve been reading since middleschool. And I've read many beautiful stories. But This is the first time I've been so crazy for a novel to even create an account and write a review. Right now, its still on-going, and I've tried to find another novels/manhwa that similar to this to wait for the next update, but I still couldnt find any novel as good as this one in terms of plot. Maybe I can say that it has similar vibes as Remarried Empress, but its not THAT dramatic... more>> and complicated. Yet it is complex in its own way. There’s no harem, no cheating, throned nor dethroned, supporting this supporting that, this is just about two person with their own perspectives and upbringing, and how they try to get to know each others world (though the process is quite long). A man struggling to move on (not just any moving on) and uphold his duty, and a noblewoman who’s nobled to her bones, also trying to fulfill her duty as a Duchess.

This is not about transmigrating, isekai, regressed, strong/smart FL, innocent, etc. This novel plot is typical yet NOT common. And why I love this novel so much?

1. The world-building. I love how elaborated the world is. No words. Even though there may be some of you who thought differently, but for me, as a reader, I can understand the world building.

2. The consistency. The aspects of world-buildings in a story is not just about how detailed it is, but also how the author can make the characters really living through it. How their actions stay LOGICAL within the story.

3. The characters. They have their own POVs. They’re not just some characters written for a novel, but it feels like they truly a person with those various perspectives and emotions. And you know what makes this novel brilliant? Its how I still havent noticed any unillogical plot armor.

So in summary, I really admires how this novel is very logical in its own way. No forced plot, and etc. Its just flows naturally and realistic. It also touch the complexity of a “woman” itself, and I really love this part. Its just shows that this novel is not just any novel you can read then forgot in a day or two, but instead instilled thoughts of woman and patriarchy to my very being.

If you want to know a glimpse of the MCs:

1. Roselyn. A refineand cultured noblewoman. Just as I told you, noble to the bone. But she’s not naive, and she’s not “particular” neither. She’s not that strong and smart like any FLs. Because what I understand is she’s just a noblewoman. Trying to live her best as a noble. Taking care of her family, fulfilling her duties as a Duchess, and a wife. But her story, her composures despite her inner turmoil makes up for her complexity and that made her a lot more than just a character. She’s the very idea of an ideal noblewoman, and I think that is just the most appropriate description of her characters. And THAT makes the story more interesting, because the ML hates aristrocracy. Add to the story settings where they’re in an era of revolutions where patriarchy begins to be questioned and where women can “own” their life as a person (not just as a labelled commoner and nobles). From the latest chapter that I've read (ch67), the FL as the ideal noblewomen, can respect those values and even intrigued but at the same time feels ‘insecure’ by it.

Because she’s just a noblewoman. Who’s very life itself depends on her husband. And her husband, the ML, despise aristrocacy. WAAAH idk how to express it properly, but this novel is a GEM. The simplicity of their standings intertwined with each others values just add complexity to this sory.

2. Jared. Third son of the duchy. Who’s adventurous and content with his future of not being able to inherit the duchy as the third son, and see that as a blessing. Who’s in love with a commoner and experienced the reality of loving bounded by status. Because he have to inherit the duchy because of an accudent, thus unable to marry the woman he loves.

His character is also quite complex. What makes him kind of frustrating is how he’s not good in expressing his fears. He truly put on a facade of a Duke to his Duchess. Hardly ever let himself succumb to his emotion. He’s a yellowflag. But I can reasoned with his actions. I’ve yet to fully understand his characters, but as far as I can see, his character is pretty reasonable and realistic. Their interactions and their thoughts are so realistic that sometimes its uncomfortable for me to read more. Especially the scene where they have their first interco*rse. Its very painful to read : (Yet, the scary part is I can understand them. And thats why I see this story as a realistically uncomfortable romance novels HAHA.

Anyway, in summary, I gave them 100/10. I know I have yet to finish reading it, but I hope the author stay consistent. Right now, im just very intrigued with how the FL can comprehend with this era of revolution as a noblewoman.

That is all. I hope you check this out. And please do recommend me stories like this gem. Thanks for reading and im sorry if there are some incorrect english because its quite hard for me to express it as English was never my first language.

Notes: Im not sure if this story can be adapted to a manhwa, because each character’s POV takes a huge part in making this story more interesting. Because in manhwa, artists tend to brushed over the character’s thoughts and just go straight to scenes. I think its better to leave this as just a novel.
