Rodin, abandoned by his parents and sold to a special forces training facility.

“Your score is 58. You have a genius-level talent when it comes to magic, so you should be proud.”

Honestly, I wanted to like it, but the MC's reasoning at many points in the story just doesn't make sense. It's silly.

Let me elaborate.

The MC decides early on in the story to not reveal his entire power. This is sensible, if others don't know his limits, he can display more power than they expect at critical moments and that might save him from danger.

Spoiler

But soon after reaching 5th circle mage rank he just blurts it out because he found that he had read all the books that had been made available to him until then. And he was frustrated about it so in a smoothbrain moment he blurted out his main strength.

[collapse]

Seriously silly.

The war s*ave facility MC is in is controlled by 5 main people, called the committee. They are 3 5th-rank mages and 2 5th-rank knights. It's a significant force, but most of these folks have gotten used to a decadent lifestyle, haven't kept up with training and are completely out of shape.

But the MC is absurdly cautious of them. Like he comes up with ridiculous scenarios that are hard to take seriously. He thinks that if they (the ens*aved war-s*aves) run away directly without a good coverup, then they will become lifelong fugitives and will always be chased. It's genuinely a silly idea. This world has a large number of countries and a very large landmass. The country they are in is a relatively mediocre one. And it's facing a chaotic war situation. Does he seriously think these knights/mages in the committee who are used to a decadent lifestyle and have significant property and estates of their own will drop everything and chase him to the ends of the Earth? Does that make any sense? Unless he has mu*dered their entire family, putting this much effort into catching/killing an escaping s*ave during wartime where your entire estate might gets destroyed is ridiculous. What they would be most focused on would probably be avoiding the flames of war and escaping with most of their property intact to a different country. How could they bother to care about an escaped s*ave.

Not to mention MC is also a 5th rank mage by then. And he is far more competent when it comes to combat. It's just ridiculous how he thinks and behaves.

Spoiler

Later, a friend of his gets sent out on an assassination mission, his friend manages to obtain the device that controls his s*ave mark (The device, called a s*ave rod can be used to explode the s*ave mark embedded in a s*ave's head by breaking the rod). The assasination mission is one in which there is no chance of returning from. But after his friend retrieves his own s*ave rod, MC still tells him to carry out the assasination mission on the f*cking Chancellor of the kingdom they are in because otherwise the committe will chase his friend. Seriously? You are worried about the committee chasing your friend and not the f*cking kingdom for mu*dering the Chancellor? A Marquis level noble?

Plainly ridiculous.

It's like agreeing to mu*der the president of a country to avoid being chased by a gang that raised you. Bro, why the hell do you think the country's forces wouldn't chase you for killing the president? Why the hell would you think the country's forces would be less scary or capable than some gang's. A country has FAR more capability to chase you to the ends of the earth. And the crime is far more serious. For the gang, the crime they might chase you for would be desertion. The country meanwhile would be chasing you for mu*dering it's most significant figure. The severity is on a completely different level.

The story begins with the MC, Rodin, being sold by his parents as a s*ave at the age of 4. The people who bought him take him to a training institution where the kingdom aim to train usable forces for an impending war. Rodin is a genius not only in potential in magic but also in his understanding of the situation and the people being different from normal children his age (the institution want children on the mature side, normally bringing children aged 9-10 yet he was brought to the... more>> institution in the age of 4)

Spoiler

The beginning of the series follows rodin in the institution and includes many short time skips spread over 9 years for the entire arc and begins to show the war between the 13 nation alliance (that rodin country is a part of) and the empire around ch 30. (The arc of the training institution also include a lot of details on the rest of the world and his history, making great world building for the future)

This novel is quite great, it reads nearly like novels such as genius warlock in some aspect but a slice of life in some. As the description says the MC is a genius, but not only in magic affinity but also in intellect, and he is taken as a s*ave by a kingdom to fight in war, though the s*ave branding on him was applied incorrectly and he can probably break it in time. The story progresses quite slow and even though there are many time skips, the story just... more>> reached the start of war by chapter 35. The whole 30 chapters are mostly training arc so maybe that's why it feels so slow, but nonetheless it quite enjoyable to read, the most frustrating part of this would probably insufficiency on readable chapters. You can read it as a slice of life and it wouldn't feel off, at least for now.

In summary, the overall novel has very slow event progression but are filled in between by a lot of very slow character progression, great read but feels unfulfilling and is easy to crave for more chapters. (This may also be because of how chapters are chopped up, rice feels unfulfilling if eaten grain by grain instead of a whole bowl given right away, I don't dislike it tho as it could bump up activity and frequency so more readers leading to more chapters hopefully, I really want more chapters) <<less

Seeing these five-star reviews once again, I thought someone should write about the problems of this novel and give a truthful assessment.

I write after reading 100 chapters. It was a good start. I liked the classic world of magic, but the story lacks depth. We are not told much about the politics, culture, economy of the Kingdoms and the Empire, basically everything is limited to a couple of sentences like "the s*ave trade is flourishing in the Kingdom and the cast structure is strong" it is difficult to form some... more>> kind of map in your head. On the contrary, some situations are given more attention than expected, such as an attack on the commander of the empire by the comrades of the main character. The characters are also superficial. In my mind, I called them Teacher A, Rector B, Student C. After all, they are all a blurred background. The friends of the main character not better, except that they were given a couple of sentences more description, but in general they are ordinary puppets relying on the brain of the main character. I do not understand why the author decided to separate them if there is no reason for this. The main problem is the main character. He's too wise. Not to be confused with smart. It's like he's had the experience of a 40-year-old. At 4 years old, damn it. His mindset is like that of an adult. The conclusions he comes to don't make sense at his age. The character does not learn this gradually, but initially has a ridiculous insight not inherent in a child. In the last chapters, author tried to humanize the main character by imposing two boring children. After that, I couldn't bear to keep reading. <<less

So far it's been amazing. I really like the world building. MC is a genius, but the way he become stronger really takes time. And honestly, I don't have any problem with that. Despite the slow pacing, I really like how the story unfolds. It doesn't make me bored in the slightest.

If there's any criticism it's the side characters. They all really not explored enough. There are good people and bad people but we really didn't get the chance to know them more. Like, what motivates them? What they're thinking?... more>> What values do they have? What goals? It's like, they're just there to move the story along.

To be truth the whole story is just like MC diary. Bcs everything revolves around him. It's not bad per se, I like it in fact bcs MC journey is really fun to read. It's as if you're on a journey with him and see the world from his point of view.

I just hope in the later chapter we can learn more about the mysteries behind the perished civilization. Or maybe potentially a good rival or enemies for MC. For now i'll leave this novel to marinate and then come back later. <<less

Chapter 13.5 and there is finally some decent comprehensive mention of magic! Wow was that slow. This is not an action or adventure novel, that is for sure. Not entirely sure what the mystery is either... Maybe, whats the name of this world? Are there any Gods? If there are any mysteries, they aren't mentioned or crucial enough to influence the story.

Characters are plain - somewhat defined by their powers and the plot is currently non-existent. This is an extremely slow novel, personally, I am gonna drop it, but it... more>> might be worth something to someone. There is no angst in this novel. <<less
