“I… I like you no matter what you do.”

Nicholas White, a successful lawyer, is suddenly hit by an unexpected heat cycle one day. The problem? He has lived for 29 years as a Beta.

‘You’re not telling me I’m an Omega, are you?’

That’s not all. To make matters worse, his heat overlaps with the rut of his longtime childhood friend, Kyle, leading Nick and Kyle to do something that friends shouldn’t. I first discovered this story through the manhwa DTR and I was more interested in this couple than the one in DTR. So, I went reading the books without finishing DTR at that time... ahaha now I have read both of them.

I really loved how the story was written and how the characters were depicted. They have their flaws, their qualities and their own worries, through the story we get to know them and understand them. The story was heartwarming and I really enjoyed reading it. I wished it was... more>> more popular.

The translator does a pretty good job at translating and I like reading the book again. I have bought the books on Google by the way.

The side stories were also so cute and it was so much fun to read them.

We also get to discover/see others characters from Mind The Gap, another story of Flona which shares the same universe.

Hope my comment will get you to give a try to this book. <<less

The storytelling, the romance, and the character development were all great. There are a lot of factors why I came to love it.

One of the good things about the novel is how it portrayed well the aftermath of the characters/victims emotions when it comes to the traumatizing and distressing things that happened to them.

Kyle Frost, who pined for Nick, just started to make a move with his feelings when Nick's second gender changed and they had s*x. Although he's someone who's possessive when Nick has someone or is in a... more>> relationship, Kyle knows his limitations when he's being overbearing. What I like about his character is that his trauma wasn't brushed off throughout the whole story. You can tell it was something serious. They had counseling and such. And although Kyle got better, it didn't erase everything—it's still there. His trauma. He was also mostly self-loathing. He blamed himself for something that wasn't his fault, even though he was a victim of the unexpected or circumstances.

Kyle didn't get better immediately, rather, he gradually got better together with his love, Nick.

Nicholas White, imagine becoming an omega when you've lived as a beta for 29 years? I can't imagine the shock and the overwhelming emotions of such a sudden change. I don't think I could accept it, but at his age, he didn't have a choice but to accept it maturely. He still wanted confirmation, even though it was obvious he was an omega, and that's a good thing. Although he became an omega, and being one with an alpha in the same room is dangerous since things could happen, his mind and body still chose to stay with Kyle. After they did the deed, that was also the start of his feelings changing romantically well, not really. He's such a great character because he thinks before deciding to do it. He doesn't rush things.

The love triangle also showcased that even if you love someone, you can still feel conflicted by others because of attraction and how charming the person is, because they're your type. Some moments of Nick with Ash (the main lead of Define the Relationship) made me feel that.

SophieLovenOr's review was also right that the characters from "Mind The Gap" were shown here. Briefly when they were in their high school, and years passed later, mentioned when Nathan and Alex were already together. Nathan is actually the Younger brother of Nicholas White The MC of Egg Benedict. Plus, Karlyle and Ash together as husband. <<less

I'm not the biggest Define the Relationship fan but I was very intrigued by these two characters. I think this story is more to my taste than DTR, as someone who is more into friends-to-lovers rather than fwb types of stories.

I didn't know that Nick and Ash sort of dated for a bit lol I might have missed that part in DTR if it was mentioned. He is definitely less annoying here than at DTR (I wasn't very fond of his character and mainly stayed through it because of Carlisle).

I have a very soft spot for love stories between a character with extreme trauma + his savior, and this is definitely one of those.

Spoiler

Kyle's mental "imprinting r*pe" was just... so traumatic. It's a wonder he didn't go totally crazy.

I love how their relationship develops, that slow, gradual process where they realize things. The rut/heat cycle was just a catalyst and readers know from the start that they were in love, but I like how they don't just jump into it. And I also like how they avoid talking about it lol, it's so incredibly realistic. It also makes things more interesting.

Highly recommended read, 5/5.

Something I want to mention: Kyle and Nick sort of remind me of Chase and Josh (of KMIYC), although the dynamic is different. Both Kyle and Chase experienced

, while Nick and Josh are their saviors. It's another reason I was so drawn to this story. <<less
