“I love you. My feelings haven’t changed.”

He thought it would end quickly, but Denev’s pure love lasted quite a while. There was nothing more enjoyable than trampling on that love and playing with it. But…

“I heard a marriage proposal came for Denev.”

He thought he could easily regain her heart just by reaching out his hand.

“Ophelia Denev won’t leave me. She’ll be back in three days.”

It was a bet he had started with the intention of discarding it once he regained her. But it was he who ended up being entangled. At the end of the mental battle with Denev, who could be held but never captured, Robern earnestly wanted to ask.

“How can love change? How?”

What started as a fun story of an arrogant playboy becoming confused when the girl who always loved him decides to move on, quickly devolves into a super toxic and immature mess.

I personally love a good regretful ML and a grovel story, but this was just not entertaining. The most important thing any author writing a regret-redemption story needs to be careful of is making sure that a character doesn't cross the line too badly and become irredeemable before the redemption arc even begins. ML here crosses all the lines,... more>> and then crosses new lines that the reader didn't even see coming. Also his "redemption" arc is entirely unsatisfying
Spoiler

esp since he shows that he's still the same manipulative jerk who burns letters written to her and tries to control how aware she is of what's going on outside his mansion

[collapse]

Also, as someone who enjoys a yandere ML, I'm rather flexible about consent stuff in stories (ONLY IN FICTION) so long as there's justification for why the character is behaving as they are and there are appropriate consequences. Unfortunately, the casual attitude this ML has while literally thinking about his own actions by using the word r*pe, was downright gross. But you find yourself unable to even get angry or upset at just him because FL is entirely nonchalant about any of it.

I specifically avoid stories with weak willed or wishy washy FLs because I cannot stand them, this FL is perhaps one of the worst I've ever seen. She monologues throughout the whole story about her pride and how strong she is, but not a single moment or action in the story proves that she has any backbone.

I'd give this a 2.5, and regret buying the entire novel in one go. If I had been paying for chapters, I'd have dropped it; but since I paid for the whole thing I pushed through. The plot is a mess, side characters have no consistency (I'm pretty sure the author straight up forgot FL had a family for like 20 chapters), and our lead characters are immature and messy. Grateful that the rational and sweet sub male leads got rejected because FL didn't deserve either of them, and my thoughts and prayers for their child and anyone working in their house. Yikes.

The cover art is absolutely stunning tho. <<less
