One day, I woke up in an unfamiliar body.

‘Isaiah Díaz’ wakes up one morning with a terrible headache.

The man staring back at him from the mirror is a pale, gloomy-faced, unfamiliar young Asian man.

On top of that, a corpse lies by the front door, accompanied by a mysterious note.

Two men break into Isaiah’s house before he can even report the situation to the police due to his confusion. They claim that he is ‘Isaiah Cole,’ a cold-blooded killer and the lover of Chester Kalisz, an underboss of a mafia organization known as the Kalisz family.

To make things worse, they say he has a job to assassinate his lover’s rival the very next day?!

But I’m just an ordinary college student who’s never even held a gun before!

Isaiah, Chester, and Chester’s right-hand man, Manny, pool their limited reasoning together and conclude that Isaiah is suffering from dissociative amnesia.

As confusion, panic, and fear overwhelm Isaiah, another underboss and the rival (a.k.a. assassination target), Bran Wiseman, appears before him.

“So, what’s your answer?”

Bran presses Isaiah for a reply.

It seems that something important was agreed upon between the two last night, but unfortunately, the Isaiah of today has no recollection of it.

Will Isaiah be able to navigate through this crisis?!

Glad to find these gem 💎💎💎

Really, I finished it like a flash. The author has detailed way to explain everything, either psychology, technical about guns, medical, even hierarchy in mafia. I found it fascinating how detailed is it, and imagine how the author did some research about it before write this story.

The plot was fabulous, thick and full of plot twist, and the comedy in it really really fresh, not cringe at all.

... more>> I hope to find another story that will make me immersed in it like Bugs In Amber.

Nonetheless, the translator doing really really great job.

I will recommend this story for all BL Action lover, really from deepest of my heart. <<less

I really need to write a review for this story.

This story is simply perfect! The plot twists are incredible — every time a new drama was revealed, I was in shock. The protagonist is wonderful. At first glance, he may seem like a “damsel in love, ” as if his passion came out of nowhere. But as the reading progresses, we realize that it is something much deeper than a simple crush. Little by little, we understand where this seemingly sudden love comes from.

ML is also incredible — a true... more>> gentleman, but with that touch of danger that you expect from a mafioso. I don’t even know how to praise this man without giving away spoilers, so I can only say: read it!

The villains are also excellent. They are not just bad for the sake of being bad. They have history, context, and the hatred we feel for them is justified. It’s not that kind of shallow dislike, like “they’re bad and that’s it.” The author builds their personalities very well, and this allows the reader to form their own opinion.

The writing is very well done. It has a style that reminds me a lot of American books. In fact, it seems more like a book than a web novel. It reminded me a lot of "White Star" by James Thayer. And the translation is impeccable — the translator did a brilliant job, even explaining some technical terms used in the work.

And the hot stuff? It's really hot! The scenes are very explicit and long — just the way I love them. Everything happens slowly, engagingly and extremely sensually. If you like hot scenes, you'll definitely love this work.

Anyway, I don't have a single complaint. The story has a very well-defined beginning, middle and end. I highly recommend it! <<less

the story is pretty good but—and I don’t know why the other reviews are glossing over this—has incredibly ignorant, racist/colourist undertones.

one instance they deadass say the ML belonged to an elegant race (i’m pretty sure he’s white/irish) far too different from latinos from a movie.

MC has a personality disorder and believes himself to be a latino man and ML blatantly says he’s “better now” as east asian the moment darker skin is mentioned...

on another instance, they’d mention a cute little east asian boy obviously looking cute and innocent surrounded the... more>> burly “dark men” in response to african-american people that adopted him and raised him...

it’s honestly pretty fuxking gross having to read these microaggressions in a novel that was supposed to be a satisfaction read <<less

I don't understand why the rating is under 4.0 for this one.

Is this novel perfect? Not at all. But it has depth, plot twists, and realism. I should nuance that last point though. The realism lies in the way the plot unfolds: events don’t occur due to plot armor or mere coincidence, but as a result of the characters’ choices. Sometimes, a seemingly throwaway line or action from ten chapters earlier ends up shifting the entire direction of the story. So yes, there’s realism in how events progress... but I... more>> have to admit, the setup isn’t always convincing. I won’t go into detail here, but some characters are simply too s*upid, careless, ignorant, or apathetic to be believable members of a powerful mafia family.

About the protagonist, Isaiah: it's hard to talk about him without spoiling the first half (literally) of the novel. What I can say it that he is deeply flawed and very stubborn, but also the best in his line of work. I like his flaws. He's not a perfect self insert protagonist, but makes mistakes, isn't always right, and says s*upid and embarrasing stuff to his crush.

About the love interest: honestly, I didn't like him at certain times. Even Isaiah admitted he could be quite annoying lol. He was a bit too perfect, always one step ahead of the rest. But the love was there, and it changed everything. Or perhaps it's better to say that it gave him the courage to change what he could.

Some spoilers under the tag.

Spoiler

Chester was obviously a villain and a bad person, but my heart kind of bleeds for this idiot... or rather for who he could have been. You know those possession novesl where the protagonist wakes up in a story they've read in the body of the villain? Chester is that original villain. His end was tragic, but he was doomed by the narrative from the moment he appeared and proved he couldn't change who he is as a person.

[collapse]

The novel isn't very action packed. If you're expecting a lot of guns and assassinations, you'll be disappointed. That stuff does happen, but only at the very end (it's so worth it tho). It starts of as a mystery. Who is Isaiah really and who should he trust? Around the halfway mark, those questions are answered and from there the mood changes and our cute Isaiah turns into a badass :').

All right. That's all from me. <<less

Didn't expect to stumble upon this gem. The ML have unique characteristic and memorable. The MC is also strong and good at his job.

I was expecting a basic mafia story, but it's actually something more and better. The plot twist, the connection between the leads, their dynamics, it's all good!

Also, I think the author really did their research. The way they describe the techniques of shooting a gun and everything is really detailed. It's not just "mafia, cool, evil", but it's deeper than that.

Despite all that, I feel like some... more>> part may be dragging. Sometimes there are too much dialogues, but it's not too bad. <<less
