Cove’s Raven, the assassin Gio.

After presenting as an omega, he is given a final, dangerous mission:

Assassinate Grand Duke Bayshark—the only ultra-dominant alpha in the empire, cousin to the Emperor, and the feared monster of the North.

Disguised as a bride, Gio attempts to poison him on their wedding night—

But instead, he is caught… and offered a new proposal:

“The Emperor sent you to marry me. Don’t you think it’s your duty as a loyal subject to make it look like a happy marriage? Just become my bride, assassin.”

A command to pose as the fake Grand Duchess, fooling the Emperor’s eyes.

Pretending to be a loving newlywed, performing with poise in high society—

It’s unlike any mission he’s taken before.

But that’s fine.

Gio has always completed every assignment perfectly.

For the story: I quite liked it. The set up was good and the story kept me reading. I only wish MC had more scenes where he showed his skills or people close were impressed with him. Maybe take down a monster or prevent an external assassination. Even though MC had a very hard life, I didn't have to read any torture scenes, which is good.

Spoiler

I was mad the ML didn't ask his name for so long, especially when he was pushy about his own name in bed. I don't think it's realistic though to never wonder someone's name like this. People learn to NAME living (or close to living) things they encounter regularly, even swords, dolls, or stray animals. It might make sense if ML deliberately didn't ask and gave him a new nickname himself, but he was actually shocked to realize he didn't know his name later when he needed something to yell down a street to get his attention (which a nickname would have worked for). I guess there wouldn't have been enough to regret without this? But the regret would still have worked if ML had given MC a nickname and then wished he had "truly known" more about him.

For the translation: Generally poor romanization choices of names. Added a completely absent R sound to ML's name (I can't take Bayshark seriously). Used raven instead of crow, when crow is tonally waay more correct (tr*shy self-image, name is demeaning as used by the assassin order, "can't wash a crow clean" line doesn't really work for raven), Ivan instead of Evan when the story establishes his name starts with 5th letter of English alphabet per their year cohort/order conventions. Cole Lass vs something like Kohl Ras which feels way more "foreign prince assassin leader" energy.

Plus excessive, clearly AI em dashes and garbled phrasing that doesn't match context. Female pronoun for male Gio sometimes. Wrong gender entirely for Chris (consistent, clear evidence he's male in original Korean, female in this translation). Overall, feels like AI did this (which is fine, more translations thanks to AI) but it needs a final critical proofread. Better than Google Translate though. <<less

An excellent mix of action, plot, intrigue, and romance. The author leaves just enough breadcrumbs to keep the reader engaged and excited when more pieces of plot drop and they can put together the whole picture. A smattering of angst that is well-done and appropriate for the type of life the MC has lived. ML has to grovel a little, which he should. Overall very enjoyable though the translation could be better (pronouns and names are all over the place)
