Yu Lan transmigrated into a novel, becoming the real young master in a urban fiction where true and false identities are intertwined. Normally, the real young master, after being found by his family, should enjoy a splendid life different from before.

However, the protagonist of this novel is the false young master, and Yu Lan is merely a gloomy, malicious cannon fodder despised by everyone, destined to never rise to prominence.

Not long after being brought back by his family, he was once again “invited” to leave:

– He was to replace the false young master in a marriage alliance, marrying the major antagonist Chu Wang, who had caused panic in the entire City A and became a vegetative after a car accident.

Fortunately, according to the subsequent plot in the book, Chu Wang would wake up three months later.

Yu Lan: This is easy. I’ll just build a good relationship with the major antagonist during these three months.

But how to build a good relationship with a vegetative became a problem.

One night, as Yu Lan was contemplating strategies to win over the major antagonist lying on the bed, he suddenly heard someone say by his ear, “You’re pressing on my leg.”

He looked at the antagonist lying beside him and then at Chu Wang floating above, calmly observing him, “!!!”

The book didn’t mention that the major antagonist had a spirit behind him while in a coma!?

From then on, Chu Wang became Yu Lan’s figurative military advisor, pointing wherever he wanted, and everyone said he was using a chicken feather as an arrow, waiting to see his misfortune. The entire City A was eagerly anticipating the show.

At a banquet, Chu Wang pointed at his former fiancé who had abandoned him not far away, “Splash wine on him.”

Yu Lan: “Is it okay? Has he offended you?”

Chu Wang remained calm, “He offended you.”

“…”

Three months later, the dreaded major antagonist unexpectedly woke up. The entire City A couldn’t wait to witness the drama unfold, but instead of a show, they received wedding invitations:

“I heard that during my coma, everyone took good care of my wife. Thank you all for your hard work.”

People who received the invitations: ??? Clearly, it was your wife who was taking care of us everywhere?!

That night, Yu Lan blushed with intermittent speech, “Now that you’ve awakened, we can… um…”

Chu Wang: “Didn’t you say it yourself? Now we can ‘build a good relationship.’”

Yu Lan: He didn’t mean this kind of relationship back then!

I was a bit surprised by the rating of this story after reading it. It does have it's issues and I won't repeat them as you can find that in other comments but I honestly liked this story. For me, the relationship between MC and ML is lovely and based on straightforward communication without the usual coercion that is happening in so many stories with an overbearing CEO. MC realising that there is people that want him even if he is not perfect at all times was honestly touching. I... more>> might have teared up once or twice. So, if you don't mind a little cliché trope then read this. <<less

Very short, basically most times spend on MC and ML developing their relationship while ML is in his soul form.

s*upid fake brother pulling small stunts and gets face slap everytime.

Also abit emotional with MCs journey when he was growing up as an orphan. It was very emotional.

Basically MC becomes likeable to all those surrouds him.

It's an enjoyable read for this one

It's a typical green tea MC face slapping the white lotus fake young master. It's not even really satisfying because the fake young master isn't very smart in his plans. ML is the usual powerful CEO figure that dotes on MC. It's not bad, it's just not very good either.

The face-slapping is a side dish here. The main thing is the adorable interaction between our main leads. They are precious. MC is so funny, he's a natural comedian. And ML is the most caring ghost (spirit) ever. I really want a ghost like this!

The story itself is very light-hearted, like a gentle breeze.

I found this quite entertaining. About a 4.5 star story.

Yes it is the standard OOP CEO and cannon fodder just with a twist but it doesn't try to be anything but a nice, tidy, funny, little story.

Things that I definitely counted in it's favor: There were only two real green tea characters, and a few others that showed up for a paragraph not a whole bus full of schemers and plotters - that gets very tiresome. The emotional development of both MC and ML was interesting. The ML is forced... more>> to let go of his 996 career focus and develop and EQ while the MC has some issues stemming from growing up in an orphanage. Being forced together with not much to do but talk gradually opens up a lot of trust and emotions. And neither the MC or ML expected the other to change their character.

The half star deduction is actually because of sloppy editing. I am pretty tolerant but it's frustrating when names are wrong (Especially the ML's) all over the place. I never could figure out the why the MC's mom called him Xiaolong when his name was Yu Lan, but called the fake brother Xiaoling when his name was Yu Ling. <<less

I love this, but I realistically cannot rate it higher than 4 out of 5.

General Thoughts:

In no way, shape, or form is this novel bad. It's not. I didn't deduct a star because this novel lacks quality.

It's well written, not too dramatic (and by that I mean I see a distinct lack of dog blood plot points where there could have been some), and the emotions of our main characters were well portrayed in the narration. There aren't many glaring plot holes, though I would've liked some subplots to be... more>> explained further.

However, there is something to be said about... the lack of content, so to say. Simply put, this novel is barebones. Lackluster. However you wanna spin the wording. There's a lot to like, not much to hate, but it still somehow feels... incomplete. Well, maybe not incomplete, just basic.

I'll go into why exactly it feels this way in the technical aspects of my review.

Technical Aspects:

Plot 3.5/5 - Let me preface this low rating by saying that I love the setting. The twist of having the ML be in a coma but also able to communicate with the MC through some unexplained (spoiler, no it really doesn't get explained) supernatural aspect of his nature is really captivating. The summary is what drew me in to start and complete this novel in less than a day.

Nothing is inherently bad about the plot.

But, again, there is simply not enough... intrigue. Keep it between you and me, but around the 60th chapter, I started getting bored. I was nearing the end, and instead of dreading it, I felt relieved. I think that speaks volumes.

Though, I have to say, it felt like the author knew when to stop and didn't let the story overstay its welcome. Hats off to that.

There is not much except the base premise keeping this novel's plot afloat. It's novel (hah, see what I did there?...I'll see myself out) that the ML is... some sort of spiritual projection for over half the novel, and, yes it's also interesting to see that condition manifest into the ML's mindset as insecurities and desires regarding the MC (like wanting to touch the MC's hair because he couldn't before, and wondering how to be interesting enough that the MC will keep him company because the ML hasn't interacted with anyone in a looong time, AKA a year) but...

Honestly, other than how the ML actually has feelings and insecurities outside of being the cold, original antagonist typically portrayed in the CEO trope (though there still are traces of that stereotype), not much is different from other novels in the genre. MC transmigrates, goes to school, is an orphan, yada yada yada. Though, MC's inner narration and personal feelings and conflicts were really well done.

The whole illegitimate son plot thing that the MC's family in the novel world has is kind of boring because the actual antagonists (MC's biological mother and his illegitimate brother) are s*upid and uninteresting. They (the antagonists) lack agency in their actions and honestly felt like a small side dish of drama to spice up the romance and get the MC to act all badass then aggrieved with the ML. I found it fun, but others may get bored more easily, so I'll mention it.

The whole supernatural aspect was never really elaborated? Small spoilers, but
Spoiler

the MC had some kind of dream where the ML was in his original world by his auntie's (from the orphanage) grave in an alternate universe where MC didn't transmigrate, and maybe it was the translation or something, but it was never really clear whether that was simply a dream or some kind of supernatural insight. Also, the ML's astral projection state was somehow connected to cinnabar (being able to touch the ML with cinnabar on his hands, gifted by a charlatan, and also the cinnabar bead that the MC gets at an auction), which was never explained.

[collapse]

Then again, a certain amount of belief suspension is needed for the supernatural setting.

All that said, I don't particularly mind that the plot was simple. But because of its mediocrity, I can only rate it slightly above average, no matter how much I like it personally. Excluding the whole comatose-soul-state, which I assume is unique and is this novel's main selling point, I think you could find the timeline of events in this novel almost anywhere else. Therefore, despite it not being bad, I cannot with good conscience say it is an asset this novel possesses.

Characters 4.5/5 - I love the main characters.

The ML possesses feelings and isn't at all shy in expressing them. He feels like a person, not just the caricatured "cold, emotionless, CEO, " though it did feel like that at the beginning. He can get insecure, reasonably upset, reasonably jealous, and is considerate and sweet and naturally inexperienced. It was so sweet to read the realization and confession of his feelings for the MC.

MC is a tough cookie and I love him just as much. As much as he feigns indifference, he's obviously at least somewhat affected by his past in the orphanage. He was abandoned by his foster family, his auntie died, and he was obviously afraid of holding onto immaterial things such as love and hope, just as the ML is. His philosophies in life are well thought out and so are his actions: from wanting to run away, to being afraid of his feelings for the ML, it's realistic and bittersweet.

ML and MC are a great match for each other because they feel human. Their romance is adorable to wade through and the development of their feelings was chef's kiss.

But, I have to say, the side characters, especially the supporting characters, lacked dimension. It's the sole reason I didn't rate this category a 5 out of 5.

Zhong Jiale, some family member to the ML, felt a bit like he only existed in relation to the MC and ML. He didn't get much more than that in terms of character development or even character relations. So did the ML's mother and the ML's secretary--they truly felt like supporting characters, the former for emotional support and the latter for a bit of humor and convenience.

Song Sijue, the original ML of the novel world story thing that the MC transmigrated into or whatever (you get the point), was a bit better in that he had some kind of job or life outside our main CP. And, despite being kind of annoying, Sijue was the most interesting character to me (apart from our CP) because his character was well executed. He acted like a human with flaws, not some shitty protagonist-turned-antagonist, like authors often do in similar stories.

I admit, this novel felt fresh in that the antagonists' situations did garner sympathy from me simply because I felt their emotions, their desperation, and how they're human and s*upid and s*upid humans make mistakes. I liked that the author made us feel sympathy for the characters, especially for the MC's character's biological father. I liked even more that the MC never let go of his conviction to not forgive this biological family for a recent apology born out of regret instead of affection. Too little, too late, you know? That was a refreshing breather since I was worried the MC might actually accept their apology and "make amends, " which would have undermined his character development that consisted of learning how to accept whole-hearted support and to exercise his independence from other people.

So. Hats off.

Writing Style (which may have been lost in the TL process) 4/5 - I don't have much to say here. Some parts were confusing, and I think for around half a chapter, the ML's name changed in spelling or something, but, all in all, it was readable. The inner monologues and jokes were written entertainingly and the dialogue between the characters felt sweet and natural.

TLDR; This was short and sweet. Just how I like it.

Although the plot provided no more than what was on the tin, it didn't overstay its welcome. Only around the last 2 or 4 chapters did I feel even remotely bored. The characters and their motives felt human, like this novel could come to fruition in our world (minus the whole soul projection thing). All in all, I enjoyed this novel. It was a short read with minimal drama and the adorably developing romance and the light-hearted mystique kept me engaged throughout my read. <<less

The story is quite typical with a small twist, ML was in a soul-state for half of the story. There are a lot of face-slapping, but some of them do fall short because the antagonists are dumb, or flat cider, if you’re familiar with the korean euphemism.

MC really felt like his age in this story. He is mature in some aspects but also childlike in others, a realistic orphan. You can feel the age gap between them and the story works with it. ML is typical CEO, but his changes... more>> in temperament made sense when he has been in a soul state during his coma, even before he met MC. The relationship developed nicely, but very typical. <<less

It was nice. There for sure was room for a lot of other things that could have been added, but it also isn't missing anything. It ends completed and while it could have longer, it doesn't leave you feeling like your missing anything. It was sweet and at certain parts I felt like crying (sweet baby MC you deserve all this love your past makes me cry 🥺)

MLs personality isn't at all Villain like and MC mentions it a few times but never really thinks about it XD

Spoiler

Personally I believe the reason ML became a "villain" was because the original "MC" beat up ML a lot. I mean trapped in a room with your only company someone who beats you? Yeah I'd go insane to XD

Nothing ever happened with that one master fellow but at the end MC did do what I was hoping would happen with the cinnabar powder XD

Put it on his lips 😏

Translation quality - 3/5

Plot - 3/5

Now for the actual review:

The suspension of disbelief is extremely strong in this one. A comatose vegetable patient is easily rolled around, put on a wheelchair & taken around to show his presence? Forget researching the medical side, has this author ever watched a medical drama? Such absolute nonsense. No weakness or issues due to come just sheer plot power protection. Even after ML wakes up ... more>>
Spoiler

he's talking, sitting up even attempting walking after a night?

[collapse]
there's nothing about how he's being fed, I mean he's in a comatose for f's sake!! MC is happily taking care of bathing him, taking him to sunbathe, attend auctions in a wheelchair? He's rolling him around the company - the comatose body & this is to be expected? Not a single person bats an eyelid?

The interactions are sweet, the villains are brainless. The translation gets annoying at times with names switching. I guess it's mtl that was somewhat edited.

It's okay to read but my goodness the medical aspect really made me want to throw something <<less

Interesting but not enough excitement.

If you have a time this a little short story is good but if you don't like some kind of OP ML so don't read it.

The translation not good enough because half of the translation chapter (if I don't forget) misspelled but for me is bearable. So, don't bother give this novel a bad review just because the translation is not good.
