“The person who succumbed to binge-watching until four in the morning, Su Li Mo, might just be the first.

Upon waking up, she found herself transformed into the Pure Consort of Emperor Qianlong’s harem. Not only was she 32 years old, but she also had an eight-year-old eldest son, a son barely two years old, and, oh, a new-born daughter who hadn’t even reached a month old yet. It’s utterly heart-breaking.

To make matters worse, historically, this Pure Consort only lived to be 47 years old! And her children suffered even more! Her second son passed away at the age of 47, her eldest son at 26, and her youngest daughter at 23…

Save me! Save me!”

“Emperor Qianlong lived to be 87 years old, and there were several concubines in his harem who managed to live past 70, with some even outliving Qianlong by an additional two years.

Upon calming down and carefully considering it, although the harem may be wicked, as long as one earnestly perseveres and takes good care of their health, perhaps one could still live to a ripe old age of 99… as a seasoned old salted fish.”

PS: Genuine Salted Fish Daily Life: What’s the Meaning of Palace Intrigue When Lying Flat and Living Until 99 Sounds so Blissful?

The entire harem is in turmoil, while only the female lead is leisurely lying flat, living a salted fish lifestyle, and eating melons.

As long as we survive, we’ll make it!

The goal: to live a peaceful life until old age, surrounded by descendants!

I'm always scared when I read the "salted fish" sentence in a title because most of the time we get a FL too passive where everything fell into her lap and is indifferent to all matters.

So I hesitated to pick it up... but it was a pleasant surprise. What I like the most is her relationship with other concubines, children or husband. Her mentality is to live an ordinary long life but she's in the harem so of course it's not so easy. She decided to garde her heart and... more>> avoid falling for the Emperor and invest in her children and try to create some friendship with other concubine who will stay with her until the end (and even after hubby die~).

Spoiler

When I said "ordinary life" that because we have two ways of living clashing.

The Ancient China one/Imperial family one, full of rules, where kindness is mixed with desire of power (and self preservation) and the obligation for the Emperor to have many wives and children (the famous balance)

And the modern one where children are not tools of power but just children, who can be taught. Also a favor that can be given and taken is not love and not worth pursuing.

Of course the Emperor who is used to battles of power and not giving his heart will fall to our FL who show warmth and sincerity (well not to him most of the time lol), who disdain power struggles. He's so cute and childish, maybe because he never could be before.

Yes it's more of slice-of-life type of novel but I like it. She is generous, trying to live well and by extension her children too. No big drama or truly venimous (female) character so if you're into palace fight-to-death intringue, not your cup of tea.

I love the ML the most and he made the greatest growth in the entire novel. I love the children too, maybe I would have liked to see more about them and the future.

Spoiler

The only sad thing is that she will never fully love him, like maybe but not love. Not because she can't trust his feeling but because he can never be truly her. He's the Emperor and can never only favor her, if he was a minister maybe but not as an Emperor. In a way the ML too can't love her 100%, he has an Empress, mothers of his several sons and daughters and a necessity to balance the harem so that the court doesn't guess and support differents sons and concubines which would lead to a bloodbath.

The ending is a bit frustrating and the best of both worlds.

[collapse]

So no big drama but more of small obstacles to clear for our FL, it's refreshing but I can understand it can be boring too. I do recommend it. <<less

I think this story is trying to be like The Job of an Imperial Concubine, only that story is much better as it is more interesting with great side characters. This one is very dull and boring imo. I dropped it as I couldn't bear to read on anymore.

It is more like a slice-of-life with nothing much happening.

Basically FL transmigrate into a noble concubine who just delivered her third child, a princess. She then realizes that she's in a particular time period where the Emperor lived to 80 years of... more>> age and she knows what happens to everyone. It was in the history books. The original owner of the body died quite early and her kids perished early too. Not because of assassination or whatever. Just health issues.

So our FL's aim is to live well and to have her children live well.

In that particular era, the Emperor and everyone else only eats twice a day as overeating is an indulgence. Emperor also hates fat people. He is a facecon.

FL doesn't care and eats well till she's plump. She also breaks the rules and feeds her children so they're not too weak. She basically cooks a lot and eats well and somehow attracts the Emperor's attention that way.

What happens next? Basically FL maintains her casual nonchalant smiley face "I'm a good wife" attitude but the Emperor kinda knows FL is actually faking it. He thinks she's a hypocrite but he can't actually figure out the truth. Cause she doesn't want him to stay with her, nor does she purposely grab his attention. Even when he wants to favour her, she doesn't want it. And this egoistic man is like "my concubines are mine and must want me". -.-

Anyway the story goes that way. Emperor slowly falls for our FL while FL just doesn't care and lives her life.

That's why its boring. The harem doesn't have much happenings too as the one with the vicious thoughts is Concubine Jia whereas others don't do very much. Even the Queen's early birth to her son is because an enraged concubine rushes into her and pushes her down. Like, there is no secret miscarriage drugs or whatever. It's blatant. Nobody has deep schemes like the other novel so it's kinda boring to read.

Even the childcare factor is lacking since the FL's sons are not allowed to stay with her and she meets with them twice a month. She is most often with her daughter.

Dropped it as I found it tedious to read with such a boring storyline. Skipped to the end where the Emperor finally admits he loves FL but FL thinks of him... as a friend.

Spoiler

All she ever wanted was to live a good life and die in peace with her children and grandchildren.

But she didn't expect that. Unexpectedly, Qianlong fell in love with her instead. He went from being indifferent at the beginning to having petty emotions and even duplicity later on, then he acted with her in a bloody romance theater at eight o'clock, and finally he showed his sincerity to her and praised her for her. He no longer accepted new concubines, and searched for all the rare treasures in the world for her, keeping her in her heart for decades.

Su Limo cherished this friendship, and it finally warmed her for these decades.

Translation is... not great. Meanings of sentences are distorted. But MTL isn't great either. <<less
