What’s it like to be stuck in a car with your sworn enemy for sixty days?

Yu Tianbai doesn’t want to answer that question right now.

Two years ago, a chance encounter during a “carjacking” incident led Yu, the owner of an adult novelty shop, to cross paths again with the yellow-haired punk from back then. To his surprise, the punk turned out to be the young master of a powerful funeral industry family.

“Young master, what’s with the interest in a novelty shop? Thinking of selling pills together?”

“Just warding off bad luck for the family.”

With that curt explanation, Xiuma slid into the passenger seat of the van, and their journey as mortal enemies began.

Left stranded at a highway rest stop in the freezing snow, stuffed into a supposedly haunted guesthouse in the bitter cold—Xiuma endured it all. But when they encountered a group of stranded yangko dance aunties on a frozen lake, Yu Tianbai swung a chain and click—locked Xiuma to the car door.

After heroically stepping in to help and being endlessly praised by the aunties, Yu Tianbai crouched down, tilting Xiuma’s chin with his finger:

“If you want to make it back from this road, you’d better obey every single thing I say.”

Condescending, domineering.

But the moment the words left his mouth, the ice beneath their feet let out a sharp crack.

Genuinely a novel with one of the best dialogues I've read. The characters feel very real and their personalities are distinct. It felt like I was watching a show. I really, really enjoyed the couple dynamic because it's one I've always wanted to read about but is hard to find.

They're verses!!! (Switch is for dom/sub, verse if for top/sub.) It feels so natural. None of that "Can I be on top now?" or fixed dynamic and it works so well! I can't lie, I actually didn't read the sypnosis and... more>> only mid read did I realize they were actually verses and that I wasn't confused. Yun Tianbai once said something like top/bottom dynamics aren't fixed and that it's merely a stereotype. I felt this resonate with my soul.

Alas, personal feelings aside. The MC and ML are like two lonely comets drifting with no purpose in space, unexpectedly meeting each other and becoming a constant in their lonely, inconsistent days. Neither of them had a 'home' to return to until they met each other.

Yu Tianbai (the one I consider the mc), is 29. He used to spend most of his days having fun, often with no purpose. Why? Because he's lonely. He is also prideful and values his image, he doesn't like losing face. He isn't exactly a saint but he's certainly not a bad person either. Yun Tianbai can be a bit disrespectful with his words but he has his gentle moments. He cares a lot, and he shows it in his own way. Despite his age, he is a bit immature. Worry not, he became more mature throughout the novel by acknowledgeying that his actions and words affect other people. Sarcastic, witty, and fun.

Xiu Ma (Ml) is 21. He is considered a young master but he isn't spoiled and wasn't necessarily raised like one. Saying more would be spoilers. Just know that much like Yun Tianbai, he is lonely and longs for a home he can return to. He became more mature as well. He wasn't that childish to begin with, it's just that compared to a 29 year old, you wouldn't consider a 21 that mature. Eight years might not seem that different to some but the life experiences they had are different. So just because they're both adults, it doesn't mean they're on the same level of "adult." What I like about him is his persistence. He isn't willing to give up on life, nor on Yun Tianbai. He has this fear of abandonment, which is understandable since Yun Tianbai is like the wind in my opinion. Xiu Ma has a lot of love to give but he has never felt very loved in his life. There were moments but when the bad outweighs the good, it's a bit hard. His family situation is complicated. In short words he is: explosive, youthful, and intelligent.

It's not the best idea to describe the ML and mention the MC every couple of sentences but it's hard not to. They're two connected puzzle pieces. The literal definition of "perfect person, perfect time."

There is plot and it is surprisingly good. Of course the main focus is going to be on how the two main characters develop as beings and then develop their own relationship but things happen outside of that too.

The relationship itself isn't perfect, and I like that it isn't. There are some communication issues they go through but it's nothing abnormal. Just normal couple stuff. Also, Yun Tianbai is Xiu Ma's first but Xiu Ma isn't Yun Tianbai's (naturally, he is almost 30 after all.)

Overall, it was a very playful story with its up's and dawn's. I haven't had a good read in a while so this was a breath of fresh air. Okay, now onto two quotes that perfectly describe our deal couple!

"I like things that have been prosperous and have also declined, but can still push forward with their own vitality." (Yun Tianbai describing Xiu Ma.)

"I like things that have their own style, no matter how the times change." (Xiu Ma describing Yun Tianbai.) <<less
