When the Cannon Fodder Male Supporting Role Picks Up the Script

In the book, Yun Zhuoran is described as an immortal beauty, cold and ethereal, a disciple of the greatest cultivator under the Heavenly Dao. He is also destined to form a Dao bond with his senior brother, Shen Lingshu, who possesses an innate Dao bone—a match made in heaven, the pinnacle of success.

However, Shen Lingshu, his seemingly perfect senior brother, is actually the protagonist of the story, cultivating the “Emotionless Great Dao of Taishang” technique. After their marriage, Shen Lingshu will heartlessly “kill his wife to achieve Dao,” paving his smooth path toward ascension. Along the way, he will gather a harem that includes a young disciple and the Demon Palace’s heir. In the end, Shen Lingshu will ascend to immortality.

As for Yun Zhuoran, in this book, he’s nothing more than a disposable tool, a foolish, venomous vase—the original wife doomed to be discarded.

Closing the book, Yun Zhuoran observes his always dignified and jade-like senior brother and indeed hears his proposal. At the same time, a frantic voice sounds in his ear:

“Brother, don’t believe Shen Lingshu! He just wants to deceive you and take your life!”

Yun Zhuoran: ……

A few days earlier, under the dark rolling clouds, Yun Zhuoran had just emerged from the lighting tribulation when he met another version of himself for the first time—

At first glance, Yun Zhuoran’s heart demon, who had manifested, sees his famously beautiful face, flawless as the rumors say. In an instant, all the demon’s menacing aura vanishes. With a dramatic flop, it falls at Yun Zhuoran’s feet, exclaiming: “Oh no, little heart demon has fallen! I need a kiss and a hug from brother to get back up!”

#What do I do when my heart demon loves me too much? (just kidding)#

#Raising a heart demon in the righteous path#

If I don’t work hard, I’ll have to return to Penglai and inherit the immortal island (?).

The beautiful and cold shou

【Lively and adorable little sweet heart demon gong】

——————————————————

Main character + heart demon, selfcest (top and bottom are the same person), mutual pampering.

Strong shou, with overpowered abilities, beautiful yet tragic + adored by everyone. Slow burn. The gong is initially a clingy, spoiled little demon, but the romance develops later.

Cultivation levels in the story: Qi Refining → Foundation Establishment → Golden Core → Nascent Soul → Out-of-Body → Deity Transformation (Split Deity) → Integration → Great Ascension → Ascension (Not a traditional xianxia, with a lot of custom settings).

Ps. The plot leans towards story-driven rather than fast-paced action. Not marked as fluff or power fantasy. If you want to subscribe, take your time reading chapter by chapter.

Surprised this doesn't have any reviews yet. 4.5 as of now for me. Writing this as of chapter 113.

It's really surprisingly good. I didn't expect much going in and there has already been a few times where I've been like "really? isn't this too much?" but then the writer always manages to make it work out so far.

The description really only covers the bare bones of the beginning of it, the major plot is actually that the MC's brother supposedly killed the MC's master/famed sect leader/most powerful cultivator in the... more>> world and then disappeared, the MC's been more or less held hostage for years because of that, and now that he's gotten his demon/the book that reveals some things, he's plotting to free himself and find his brother. Except, of course, there ends up being a much larger conspiracy along the way, going back farther than just the master's death.

The MC is cold and largely aloof/uncaring, but not cruel, which is a hard thing to pull off but works really well here. He's had a sh*t life and he's a victim of a horrible system/culture, and he just has no f*cks left to give. He does care somewhat for some people, but the only one he's really sweet with is the ML, because he's a part of him and all.

I'm not actually a fan of the ML. Not to the extent that it ruins anything for me, but at the beginning he's this fuzzy demon ball that I'm perfectly okay with being the ML and then when he first takes human form he's...a teenage boy. And he's way too naive and childlike most of the time for an ML this far into the novel for me. Especially since there's this one side character that I desperately wish was the ML pretty much from the moment he shows up. Really, the only thing I like about the ML once he's human is his possessiveness and creepiness factor (he's a very powerful demon, after all). I can't wait for him to age/be less childlike, I hope it's soon and before they do anything more sexual.

Also, it's recently revealed that

Spoiler

Not only does the ML look exactly like the MC did, but he acts exactly like a 7 year old MC did and has the childhood memories that the MC lost. Which, I'm fine with selfcest, but kinda squicked by the child mol*ster type vibes that gives off.

The side characters are hit or miss, some are great, some aren't. This has the danmei issue of pretty much all of the female characters existing either as villains or love interests to more important male characters, which is annoying because if you swapped genders for a lot of the side characters it just would not matter at all, so there could have been at least one or two others. Also, while I do like whenever these things get into the "dark side" of cultivation tropes and the hypocrisy and power hungriness of cultivators and stuff, it feels like too many of the recurring characters are either horrible people or kinda inept.

My fav side characters are: the elder young master of the demon palace (his father was the previous leader and his uncle is the current one), who is totally unstable and kinda evil, but great at acting polite/gracious when he wants to. No idea if he'll end up an actual antagonist in the end, yet, thought I'm hoping he isn't. He isn't really presented as a rival but he's the one that gives me 2ML syndrome.

And then (spoiler up until like 80s/90s I think?)

Spoiler

The heart demon of the dead sect master, arguably the antagonist of a good chunk of the story, who shows as much affection for the MC as possible and clearly appreciates how the MC is so sweet towards his own heart demon.

For those wondering when the ship gets together:

Spoiler

Chapter 131 they agree to be Dao Companions but not much has happened between them, and the ML remains incredibly immature.
