Transmigrating into a wasteland ravaged by infected creatures and relentless natural disasters, Cheng Ye becomes a border inspector in Happiness City.

Every survivor seeking to join Happiness City must undergo rigorous questioning and inspection to prevent infected from infiltrating.

But soon, Cheng Ye discovers these infected are nothing like he imagined!

There are Deathwhisper tent**les that resurrect the dead, sustained by obsession.

There are Death Dandelions that can instantly infect everything within a two-kilometer radius.

There are Fiery Sunflowers that emit bio-deconstructing rays, melting everything in their path.

And there are Laughing Mandrakes that grow stronger the more they make creatures laugh…

What? I have to inspect these monsters?

Fortunately, Cheng Ye acquires a special Civilization Collector.

As long as a creature’s cooperation level is high enough, he can search and replicate their information, items, skills, attributes, abilities, or even facilities…

Even a failed search accumulates action points, which can be used to upgrade items, equipment, or shelters.

Wait, what? It can even search for a spouse?

Staring at the city lord’s wife appearing before him, Cheng Ye is dumbfounded!

Not as shallow as the description makes it sound! Chapter 190, and not a hint of romance, and it’s not a short-vision power levelling novel.

Genuinely didn’t see where this novel was going to go, but I’m sincerely enjoying it. Rather than a bestiary and shallow power-stealing level up fighting novel like the description implies, the novel actually has political strategy, settlement management, restricted resources and pretty solid worldbuilding with a reoccurring cast with actual depth and complex motivations.

The political machinations aren’t too deep that this can’t be read on a... more>> casual basis, and there’s definitely action and occasional power-level speedruns, but I very much enjoy the balance, and the long-term approach the MC takes towards his relationships, strategy and life goals. Too many protagonists focus on ‘be strong. Do what I want. The end.’

In this world, the implications of that kind of approach has already demonstrated and even directly contributed to the condition of the world. The emphasis on community, infrastructure, capital management, and political power as keys to building better, comfortable lives, with physical power being an aid in implementing these strategies is very, very refreshing. He’s not reinventing products or strategies from his old life either, but genuinely using existing technology. He’s a genuinely smart protagonist that exists without giving every other character a lobotomy.

9/10 from me. <<less

I've read up to chapter 190, and it's not bad. It's quite unexpected, but in a good way.

I like:

    • The world and world history are quite interesting.
    • The power system. The super-strong characters here suffer major backlash from their abilities. (If you've read LOTM, it's similar the stronger they are, the higher the chance of insanity or losing control, though not exactly the same.)
    • No "young master" type crap, aside from one character.
    • All the side characters actually have working brains.
    • The world is dark, yet people are still full of hope.
I dislike:

    • The story is quite political. I'm not really a fan of politics, so whenever the MC talks about it, I usually skim through those parts.
    • The MC is like those KR protagonists who "can do everything" types. It feels a bit weird. The author tries to flesh out his life before transmigrating, but it doesn't really work for me.
    • Recommended if you:
like mystery

    • like post-apocalyptic settings (though it's not hardcore maybe later?)
    • prefer stories with no romance
Not recommended if you:

    • dislike wordiness; there's a lot of explanation (though not exactly long-winded)
    • are here mainly for action or adventure for example, the MC's first time going outside the sanctuary is around chapter 100+
    • don't like politics, even though it isn't the main theme. Since most of the story happens inside the sanctuary, politics becomes important.
I thought this would just be about the MC collecting "things" based on the summary, like collecting Pok

mon made of ash. But no, it's much more than that. Maybe that's why it has a low rating. People expected something else and wanted more action. So forget about the summary, just give it a try and decide for yourself.

4/5

P.S. Don't mistake Western and Eastern factions for racism. It's a purely political move and not based on race
