Lin Shijin transmigrates into a “stock-investor” novel and becomes the cannon-fodder male wife betrothed to the main shou since childhood. He gets only two lines of description and survives less than three pages before being killed by one of the stock-investor gongs. Wanting to avoid the impending love-rival nightmare, he joins a cultivation sect—only to encounter the protagonist again and be dragged straight back into the fray. Our protagonist, Lin Shijin, has one goal: survive until his inevitable divorce. He plays the part of the silent, obedient spouse, hoping to be forgotten and set free.

However, the script flips when Sheng Liuguang, instead of following the original plot, becomes intensely focused on the wife he was meant to scorn. Now, Lin Shijin, who was desperate to be thrown away, must navigate a husband who refuses to let him go. Can he escape his doomed fate, or is he trapped in a new, unexpected story with the formidable Sheng Liuguang at its centre?

Reviewing since there aren't any yet.

I'm very close to dropping this.

The characters are one dimensional, the writing is poor, the plot is uninteresting, and the pacing is weird. I read a ton of these sorts of novels and have a VERY high tolerance, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't get over how bad this one is.

The MC at first is perfectly fine! I went back just now to look at the first chapter again and was surprised because it feels like it's a completely different novel.... more>> Because by this point, the MC has devolved into basically every bad review of an MC in this sort of novel you've ever read, but it's 100% true. He's an actual salted fish/pretty vase/complete waste. He makes everyone else have to work harder and take greater risks just because he exists and barely appreciates any times they do. He's incredibly selfish, despite the writer makes a bunch of very sloppy attempts to make him look like he's a selfless, good person.

It took me awhile to figure out why this particular MC got to me and I realized it's because by the time we're like in the mid-20s chapter wise, he is coded exactly like he's a rich, spoiled middle schooler: he's incredibly immature and naive (despite knowing the plot!), and his hobbies are comic books, junk food, whining about opportunities everyone else would kill for, skipping class/not doing homework, and flaunting spending massive amounts of money he is freely given while having zero interest in the actual value of currency. He gets carried through literally everything he does by the other characters and any time he wants to take the initiative, it's also in the worst possible way that causes the most trouble for others. Because he's so very, very immature, a lot of the older characters' interest also comes off as extra creepy, like the shizun gives groomer vibes despite the fact the MC isn't THAT young.

There's also zero chemistry between him and the ML or any of the other characters and the ML is also just really weirdly written. The most interesting character is probably the one creeper r*pey villain who appears for a few chapters, and that's mostly because he's not magically more into the MC than the ML.

It's completely baffling why anyone would care about the MC and seems to be more connected to some sort of unknown past connections/identity or something than anything actually shown in the writing. If we didn't get his POV, I'd think this was one of those novels with the evil MC who is using the system, or their golden finger, or the actual MC's stolen fate, or something to trick everyone into liking him best.

Also, this is nothing against the translator, who has translated some novels I really like. I'm especially appreciative of their notes and how they sometimes leave the original characters for common terms, as I feel like if I see those enough maybe someday I'll remember them lmao This is purely critical of the novel itself. <<less
