I’ll be rating up to chapter 200 of the novel, i’d say thats high enough to give a solid critique for this story.

for the exact rating, it would be 3.5/5 and to be honest, I wanted to rate this a 5/5, even stating it as something close to a masterpiece, but I’m glad I didn’t immediately rate it as such, because it fell off.

If I had to say the selling point of this novel, or what sets it aside is the premise of the story; I’ve been wondering why haven’t... more>> anyone made a ‘meta’ story like this, basically it is the typical fantasy story with a twist where there exists an author, director, player, a protagonist, and with our MC being someone outside from the original work, and with the setting of this world including an alternate ending for WW2 which the Soviets and even the na*is have strong influence in the story.

Now reading that at the start really pushed my expectations, and since the story really came out strong in the beginning, I was thinking that it might be something close to a masterpiece.

If that was the main selling point, then the actual strength of this novel is the world-building. Since the author mixed both the fantasy world, and our alternate real world, it really helped flesh out the world, and it really strikes you on how the Allied, the Soviets, and other superpowers interacted with the fantasy world.

Now, let’s talk about what really pulled this story down, which is a shame because it really had that much of a potential. The Characters.

In contrast to the interesting premise and world-building; the characters are incredibly lacking, in both personality and dialogue, you can still somewhat distinguish each of them, but if I had to describe to them all in one word, it’s just boring. I think the reason for this falls into the author’s inexperience in writing interactions between characters, because like I have said, you can distinguish them which means its not that they have shallow depth, but more like it doesn’t really show on the dialogues or chemistry between the characters.

You can see this problem sticking out especially at romance scenes, since this is how I really realized what made this novel flawed. It’s too cruel to say it was slow burn, because there were no scenes that insinuated or at least justified a reason for romance between the MCs and any love interest? At most it would be just fighting together or having the same goals. But somehow, feelings bloom and they start catching love for each other? That’s the author’s formula for an interaction - create conflict > fight together > affection up.

This isn’t just for the love interests but to any major figures in the story, which is a shame because from the story’s description of them sounds great, as if advertising a good character, but they fizzle out the moment they interact with the MC.

Next, the MC. They made the MC very interesting, with a background shrouded in mystery, then thrown it all away to become a self-insert nonchalant mary sue. With how they introduced the MC at the beginning, I was expecting some personality born out of that history, but nope, all his interactions are reactive, nonchalant or getting flustered when a heroine flirts with him. Can’t even write anything anymore because its that shallow.

You know that the interaction is bad, when the s*x scene is even written as a cryptic 10 year old poem about sunshine and rainbows lol.

It’s still a decent read, but don’t expect something different from any other slops these days. It’s been coated in multiple colors, but it’s honestly the same bland flavor. And lastly, it’s so dragged out that most chapters are honestly feeling like fillers. <<less

Really intriguing and dark at the beginning.

Sets up an interesting world where WW2 ended differently, gates to another world appeared and changed the course of history. It does a good job of sprinkling historical information without making it feel like info dumps that slow the actual story down. The buildup of the mystery for the world and the MC's origin is quite strong.

Overall I was really into it, that is until the first heroine enters the story.

... more>> Check this out:

Heroine shows up and immediately attacks MC and his party for no reason. Initially beats the sh*t out of MC but then starts losing as MC is getting stronger from fighting.

Then she's like "If we keep going I'll have to kill you which I rather not. I just wanted to beat you half to death and force you to do what I want so let's make a deal instead!"

To which dumbass MC is like "OK"

And she's like "rude answer, didn't your parents raise you right?" (says the woman who attacks people to get what she wants).

MC is like "I'm an orphan"

Heroine is like "I'm reaallllly sorryyyyyy I.. I didn't mean anything by it!!!"

- So beating people half to death to get what you want is fine but calling them orphans is evil. Cool.

Then she tells some sob story about her dieing sister and MC is like "well she seems like a nice person and fighting her really helped me train so I owe her, fine I'll help"

Are you a f*cking imbecile?!?! She ATTACKED YOU!! In what universe do you owe her something?!!?

Personally this interaction was all I needed to know this is a novel I would never enjoy. It tells me exactly what kind of forced and nonsensical relationships MC and other heroines are going to have and it's just not my thing despite the interesting setup for the world. <<less

It’s too confusing and convoluted and tries too hard to be deep and sophisticated, just leaving us with a bunch of mysteries that will likely never be solved and seem so out of place because they have no context

Summary (Taken from the Youtube Preview) :

250, 000 won. That was price tag put against my life to level up a 'Player'.

Thanks to my colleagues who took in an orphan like me, I was able to survive while making a living as a janitor. Cleaning up corpses was part of the job, but it didn’t bother me. Ironically, I was now one of those corpses.

... more>> What the hell...?

I was definitely supposed to be dead after having my head chopped off by a crazy bastard who called himself the 'Player', but I was resurrected!?

My colleagues, who were like family to me, were also slaughtered by the Player. So... I killed the higher-ups who had sold off me and my colleagues for a mere pittance.

Thus, I vowed to make the Player pay the proper price for his level up.

And before I set off on my path of vengeance, I set fire to the warehouse they used to store the bodies of my colleagues and took their bodies for a proper burial, but then, someone appeared before me. She said that she'd gladly accept the ones I dealt with as offerings and told me to serve her from now on, promising to help me get my revenge.

My Review:

One of the most distinctive features of this novel is its unique setting. Here, a Dimensional Portal opens during World War II, connecting Earth with a parallel world with medieval fantasy elements. This premise allows the author to compelling explore Earth's political scenario, intertwined with fantasy and other elements such as nobles, royalty, and mana, as well as the conflicts between races and nations in the fantasy world influenced by Earth’s ideologies (communism, capitalism, democracy, etc.). One of the highlights is how all these themes are skillfully woven together, so that they do not clash. And while the novel includes an academy setting, it notably subverts many of the clichés typically found in traditional academy stories.

The author, Shining, is particularly adept at subtly hinting at various key elements within the story, especially in the early chapters, before the characters enter the academy. Although most of the major settings and plot points are introduced in the early chapters, this section is often criticized for being dull, leading many to skim through it. However, those who revisit the story after learning of the later revelations, the early chapters are filled with hints, making it a classic example of the 'You see as much as you know' writing style.

My Opinion:

Love fantasy? Read it.

Love Alt History? Read it.

Love Anti-Hero Protagonist? Read it.

This is a pretty fun read and time just flew by as I binged the first 50 chapters.

The subtle hints, figure working in the shadows, character interactions, world building are all well executed. It may seem a bit random and a lot of information overload at first, but let me tell you. It is worth it. And the team working on this novel have even taken the time and effort to add a lot of footnotes to the chapters. So, why are you still reading this review, go and give it a read. Now!

Fun Fact: When this novel released on Novelpia, it had 0 views for the first 50 chapters. Yep, ZERO. And now, it in the top 50 of novelpia's life picks. <<less

Highly recommend this, looks really promising as of chapter 15 and I doubt my review can do it the proper justice.

It's a revenge story focused on our main character, Dung Beetle, trying to avenge his co-workers who were killed by a player. The world seems like an urban fantasy but is quickly revealed to be the inside of a game, at least according to the player.

Spoiler for chapter 12-ish:... more>>
Spoiler

The world is also a novel. And a movie. And a comic.

So far we have a player and a writer who have both transmigrated to their respective "works."

[collapse]

There's also some questions regarding the main character's background, which gives us something fun to slowly uncover as the story progresses.

One thing of note is that it does seem like it might go down the academy route—whether that's a positive or a negative is up to you. But overall, it looks to be a really unique, gritty revenge story. <<less

Pretentious and a complete mishmash of tropes.

Every two seconds the author invokes some concept or philosophy or political history like it makes the work better, it's all the depth of a 13 year old delving into wikipedia. Oh and the Story is meta as hell to boot.

But it just fails to be intriguing. From the very beginning the story fails to have a proper purpose, a premise or a cast of actual characters. And apparently it's on chapter 990 at the time of writing this, and for me that is... more>> proof the author himself has no clue either.

Just not worth a read. One of the worst novels in genesis' lineup. <<less

I'll begin by saying, that everything which I will be writing is from the 5-10 first chapters, so no spoilers. First of all our MC is dung beetle, crazy name I know. He is a janitor, not cleaning houses or buildings, but dead bodies instead. His life, as well as his foster brothers. Was traded by the government higher-ups for 250k won (which for you Americans is 179$, or 158€ pre-Trump economy). The reason is explained in the novel quite well, but anyway the mu*derer calls himself player and killed... more>> them for XP, yes it is what you are thinking.

Our main characters dies, but is resurrected by an existence, which I'll be honest, we still do not know a lot about. Dung beetle, as you can probably guess, goes kind of insane, only wanting to avenge his family by killing the player. The existence, probably of Divine origins, grants him the talent to easily copy others, as in their martial arts.

Now, I know this might sound like your typical KR novel, but do believe me, it differentiates from the other overpowered MC KR novels quite well. First of all the characters besides our MC are enjoyable to read. They feel humane, are not there to be his trophies and are capable. This is already a big plus, because this IS a harem, which can either go to heaven or h*ll depending on the authors capabilities. The romance is fleshed out, slowly coming in pieces. As of now, beetle has eloped with only 1 girl, ahem best girl, and the romance with another is shaping slowly.

The raw novel has around 1000 chapters, as of writing, and so you can guess that it will be a detailed novel. The story is amusing, because historical events such as WW1 and WW2 are mushed together with fantasy elements such as elves, dwarves and so on. Hmm, the story is a bit complicated for my pea-sized brain to summarize it too much without losing your interest.

So moving on from the story, I've seen people complain on the patriotic aspect of this novel. Now, as you can imagine, reading our main characters sucking up to his country every breathing moment is unappealing. Luckily, our MC detest the government due to killing his family (found out in chapter 1-3), so yeah. The patriotic aspect is prevalent on the Koreans who, are beetles enemies, so if anything, the patriotism is a key aspect in the lore, but is tastefully done in my opinion.

I believe I covered everything, some shallowly because I do not want to spoil your my brethren, so I will talk about something a lot of people cry about 'Harem'. So, I personally read Harems because I'm scared of liking a character very much but they never acquire the love of the MC. Now, I understand those who hate the genre, because in a nutshell, a lot of harems DO spiral to sh*t and basically the MC is collecting Pokémons/trophies who are there to stand beautifully next to him. If you hate the genre due to this, I can wholeheartedly understand that. But, if you hating just for hating, get out. I'll repeat it again, the MC does not in any way, shape or form collect women due to their beauty. So if you hate harems in general, stay away. If you want to see an MC who f*cks every single hole he finds, this one is not for you either. If you want for a slow but tastefully done harem, with actual emotions packed in it, then stay. If you stumble across me in other harem novels, they are probably nicely written harems, and if they are not, believe me that I will be the FIRST one to tell you that. If our opinions digress, then it is unfortunate I guess. In this novel, until chapter 150, it feels like a typical romance between a man and a woman. It does evolve into somehow a love triangle, legit triangle, since the third woman likes both the 1st fMC and MC. Anyways, do try this novel. I was holding onto this novel for some time to read, and it did not disappoint. Have fun reading😺 <<less

You may find some spelling mistakes, so I apologize: (

Those who know it, know—but since it's not widely known, I thought, "This isn't a work that should be stuck at this ranking... " so I decided to write this review to encourage you to give it a try!

The story begins during World War II, when a dimensional gate connects Earth to a medieval fantasy world, altering history. The protagonist is a janitor living in Incheon, Korea, and one day, his story begins when his employer—muttering about status windows and leveling... more>> up—kills his coworkers, who were like family to him.

If written like this, you might think it's just a typical game-fantasy NPC perspective introduction and wonder how this counts as alternate history. However, the setting starts with the premise: "What if a medieval fantasy world connected to Earth during World War II?"—and it unfolds in an incredibly fascinating way.

For example, na*i Germany is defeated in Europe and escapes into the fantasy world, where hi*ler becomes a Demon King. The real gods of the fantasy world are degraded into "mental lifeforms" by Stalin. Vampires and dwarves are massacred by the Soviet Union. Communism spreads into the medieval era, inspiring serfs to dream of revolution. Elves, targeted by the United States for their elixirs, have their World Tree struck by nuclear bombs and turn into communist guerrillas... It's truly a "what is this?" kind of worldbuilding. Personally, I found the setting incredibly captivating.

There are also elements like the empire's collapsing economy influenced by the Great Depression in the United States, magic towers shaken by the "air conditioner revolution, " and the story of a hero who left descendants among all races... Clearly, it's full of such fascinating ideas—so it's quite strange that it had 0 views even up to chapter 50. The author must have found that odd too... it's honestly surprising. Personally, I'd call it a novel worthy of being ranked #1 on Novelpia. It makes me insanely excited for the next chapter, while also worrying about the author's health.

I'll leave the rest for you to enjoy while reading the novel and end this review by sharing a few memorable lines. Since it's It has already been completed, I feel cautious about spoiling too much or explaining further.

[The World Tree is just a big tree]

[A ghost once wandered, and now it wanders within Asha's world. Its name is Communism]

[How can someone's name be Dung Beetle?]

[The hero saw descendants in all races. All.]

This strangely "reddish" novel, [There Is No World For ■■], is one I strongly recommend. <<less

So far I’m enjoying it a lot, our MC is great and seeing him build relationships with new that from where he started is really wholesome. There are a lot of unknowns but there being slowly explained as you keep reading, sort of like LOTM you discover more of the world alongside the MC rather than just being info dumped while the MC is clueless.

It seems very promising and the level of talent our MC has is reminiscent of cheonma from “Myst, Might, Mayhem” and it’s a revenge story anti-hero... more>> protagonist what more could you ask for. <<less

As of now, I must say that it has been going absolutely great. Especially after it got itself a proper translation but don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discredit Fenrir in any manner as they do have a lot of series that I enjoy under their belt. But that aside, the novel knows what it is and it is adept at doing what it does best, the world building. I believe that this stories greatest strength is it's world building and the way it weaves multiple things into... more>> eachother and creates something truly great, atleast to me that is. And another thing I've come to enjoy about this story is that it never makes you feel as if you know everything, you learn along the way. You never know more than what you see, and you might think that you know something but plottwist, you actually didn't. But yeah, I would recommend it if you enjoy anti hero protagonists like me and all the things I listed above <<less
