【Highlighted Reminder】 ABO story, Alphas do have organs—if you don’t like it, don’t read!!!!!!

The rumored Second Young Master of the Guan family is the most notorious playboy in Chang’an—born into prestige, heir to billions, and the next head of the Guan clan.

Guan Yunyu, who differentiated at eighteen into a top-tier Alpha, hides her identity from everyone. She only wants to live as an ordinary little beta, not inherit billions.

Her ambition: to break away from the Guan family. If she’s going to make it, she’ll make it as a self-made rich woman—not as some second-generation heir!

She wants to become the wealthiest person in Chang’an, the city’s number one rake, a free-spirited bird with no legs, living happily without restraint.

But fate has other plans. By accident, she saves the current Emperor, who discovers her real identity, and from then on she embarks on a path of endless face-slapping with no return.

Before meeting Gao Yingmin:

Guan Yunyu: Who wants anything to do with this AO nonsense!

Guan Yunyu: Love is so vulgar! If we’re talking, we’re talking money!

After meeting Gao Yingmin:

Guan Yunyu: Your Majesty, I hear the state treasury is running low lately?

Guan Yunyu: How about I donate another hundred million taels? What do you think?

Guan Yunyu: If you make money but don’t spend it on your wife, then what’s the point of making money at all!

I don't know if you have ever seen the memes about "the friend that's too woke" and "can't help noticing misogyny bleeds through the cracks of normal interactions" but those were at the forefront of my mind while reading this novel.

I think if you read novel to chill and don't mind or even enjoy slightly problematic relationships, you would find that this novel is pretty great. The interactions between the main couple are cute and you can especially witness Guan Yunyu's growth throughout the novel (makes sense, considering she's 18... more>> at the start of the novel while Gao Yingmin is 28) (okay yeah that's the first red flag, but I raised a brow at that and moved on since the setting is in ancient China and that was a different time).

I honestly won't judge you for loving the novel. Hell, I thought I'd 5 star the novel myself.

And then it screws up one of my favourite characters, Guan Yunqing. The second (and possibly biggest red flag to me).
Spoiler

I could stomach one age gap relationship but then the author does it again! More vague this time I think, since I can't recall if they've mention Guan Yunqing's age. But why oh why did they have to match her with the spoiled princess... just because she's an omega? I don't see the redeeming qualities that would endear her to Guan Yunqing, I honestly don't. Maybe if she's more capable to a general like Guan Yunqing I can see it. You'd say it's not about the achievement, it's the person/the soul. Teeeet. The princess also helped to drug her and basically assaulted her. Even if it's to "help her out or she'd die", like come freaking on. Really? REALLY?

[collapse]

Actually now that I've started ranting, let's move the butcher of Guan Yunqing's character as my second biggest red flag. My biggest red flag of the novel is how overused the trope of "somebody getting drugged, causing adverse side effects" is. The novel literally starts with Gao Yinming being drugged, ended with someone else getting drugged, and even in the extras, somebody got drugged!!!!! What's with the author's obsession to this trope man. It's like the only way they know how to move the plot forward/introduce conflict. I'm so mad about this actually oh my god.

Now re: misogyny. I'm not sure if it should be classified as a red flag because I'm soaked deep in it everyday (lewls) but it really, really bothers me that in a world where a female alpha (Guan Yunyu) marrying a female omega (Gao Yingmin) is normal and nobody bats an eye about them both being women... why is it that only them and the side couple are the same-primary gender couple in the story? You'd expect someone prominent to have 2 moms or 2 dads... nope. In fact, Gao Yingmin's 'love rival' is a female omega (quickly forgotten, barely relevant) while Guan Yunyu's love rivals are male alphas... could've at least made one of them as another female alpha. But now the novel does have a little bit of "actually a straight novel, but let's change the male lead to a woman to make it revolutionary". It's probably unfair to say this about a wlw novel.... but read it and maybe you'll see what I mean.

The extra chapters are actually a whole other novel, an AU that's not even connected to the main novel, I actually don't see the point. The conflicts are simpler and all that but the reason I believe it's not connected at all to the main novel is because the ABO rules in the extras would conflict with the rules established in the main novel. In the extras, if it's not a mistranslation, it's mentioned that omegas go into heat every 15 days while in the main novel, it's mentioned that an S-level omega's heat could last up to a month. If the rules coexist in the same world, might as well just let Gao Yingmin resigns from being the emperor goshdarnit.

Oh yeah, that's another thing. The ABO rules are pretty flimsy and annoying. Apparently alphas have to go through second differentiation before they can imp**gnate an omega? But they can choose to repress the second differentiation? Then how would they imp**gnate an omega? Maybe I've misread that part because wtfff. It's also said many chose to repress the second differentiation because it's dangerous then there should be less AO babies around. Also a little creepy considering apparently it'll take 4-5 years usually for alphas to have second differentiation, meanwhile omegas can be imp**gnated after their differentiation at 18.
Spoiler

Guan Yunqing....I will mourn your potential always. Author, Dong Xin was literally right there! But yeah match her with a man I guess.

Anyways that's my rant for now.

TLDR; I did largely enjoyed the main novel though; the extras are not that good. <<less
