Overall, this was an entertaining story. The MC did make me laugh every now and then. However, there was one scene that made me really uncomfortable and it was:

the s*x scene with the coming-of age mermaid. The description and overall vibe felt weird especially when the author mentioned the little baby teeth it made me cringe like hell

Reading an ongoing novel feels like standing mid-journey far enough to see its strengths clearly, yet still curious about where it will lead. On that note, I genuinely want to thank the translator, because they've made this story an absolute joy to read.

I started this novel without much expectation, but honestly? This is a hilarious gem.

The story begins with our MC, Miguel ... more>>

, who transmigrates into a pirate era world. After being rescued with the help of Fante (a minor character who plays a surprisingly important role), Miguel ends up saving an injured pirate whom he promptly names "Dog, " later upgraded to "Big Dog" because he doesn't know the man's real name. He nurses him back to health, openly thirsts over his looks (which Big Dog is very much aware of), and struggles with a language barrier. Once Big Dog recovers a little, he leaves with only a note behind:

"I remember your face."

And yes our ML is that Big Dog.

Caesar, the infamous pirate captain, is very much his Big Dog. A self-proclaimed straight man with a "hole is a goal" reputation (not entirely accurate mostly fueled by his equally pe*verted fisherman), Caesar is a menace in his own right.

Now for the dynamic because this is where the novel truly shines.

The MC is pe*verted but sane, selectively shameless yet boldly unhinged when it comes to his Big Dog. He openly declares Caesar as his, fantasizes about putting a collar around his neck so the whole world knows he's taken, and does things that would normally get someone thrown off a pirate ship. He genuinely loves his dog. So much so that he somehow survives everything and even ends up working as the navigator on Caesar and Rick's (the first mate) ship after signing a s*ave bondage contract with the ML.

Yes. That happens. And our ML? Another certified pe*verted s*umbag.

After being badly injured, Caesar is rescued by this "pe*verted fisherman" (MC). While he acknowledges Miguel as his savior, he remains convinced the man is an absolute creep. He repeatedly rejects Miguel's advances (not really), all while being far too obsessed with his "little s*ave" to function normally. He's a capable, bastard of a captain who refuses to confront his feelings deep in denial, quite literally (yes, that river in Egypt).

He insists he doesn't want a relationship with his navigator, yet proceeds to:

shove his head underwater because someone (his half-brother) kissed Miguel,

strip him naked because someone touched his skin, and do absolutely everything in his power to keep his s*ave happy.

Make it make sense, Caesar.

In terms of romance, they are equally down bad obsessive, jealous, and completely unhinged for each other. The MC falls first, but the ML follows just two chapters later, though his annoying ass refuses to admit it. They bicker constantly. There isn't a single chapter without back-and-forth fighting. The crew already assumes they're together and have done it

(spoiler: as of chapter 83, they still haven't gone all the way).

While often labeled a slow burn, it doesn't quite feel like one. The pacing stays engaging, the premise feels fresh, and the story has been absolutely worth my sleepless nights even if it hurt to realize the translation is still ongoing.

Lastly, I really appreciate that the story isn't hard to follow despite the setting. It's funny, chaotic, and surprisingly addictive.

Update: 16th Dec 2025 I've finished the novel,

and I'm relieved to say this is not an open ending. They do reunite in the main story. While the extras explore AU elements, the actual reunion is handled differently and beautifully within canon.

They return to the normal timeline and meet again as professor and student, fulfilling a dream the MC once mentioned earlier in the novel. It feels intentional, soft, and earned.
