In the Heavenly Realm, there are two immortal lords whose reputations precede them.

One is Immortal Lord Qingran (Huan Xueyi). He is amicable, gentle as jade, and the epitome of a proper gentleman. As the trusted official to whom the late Celestial Emperor entrusted his orphaned daughter, he serves as the Heavenly Chancellor. His absolute devotion is witnessed by heaven and earth.

The other is Immortal Lord Xingyao (Kun Fu). A spiritual crane taken human form, he possesses a unique and peerless lineage. Appointed by the late Emperor as the Imperial Preceptor, his beauty is unmatched across the four seas, and though his temper leaves much to be desired, his face alone is enough to stun the world.

After the late Emperor unexpectedly passed away, leaving his orphaned daughter to succeed the throne, these two immortal lords stepped up to assist her—one as the Chancellor, the other as the Preceptor.

However— these two are actually a divorced couple.

In front of Her Majesty, they are a picture of harmony. But the moment court is dismissed, they needle and snipe at each other with barbed words. In their worst moments, they’ve even brawled on the courtroom floor using their imperial jade tablets, disrupting the peace of the entire Heavenly Realm.

Unable to bear the chaos any longer, the immortal officials petitioned the Celestial Emperor: Why not ask the Matchmaker (Yuelao) to find new matches for these two, so the Heavenly Realm can finally have some peace and quiet?

After some deliberation, the Emperor made a decision: Force these two to marry each other again, lest they go out and ruin anyone else’s life.

And so, the two immortal lords began frequenting the Matchmaker’s Palace at least three times a month. They divorce, and then they remarry. They divorce over political disagreements; they divorce because Immortal Lord Qingran looked at another bird; they even divorce because there was no chili pepper in their lunch. The Matchmaker is so utterly vexed by them that his life has become a living misery.

Immortal Lord Qingran: “Kun Fu is a man with nothing but a pretty face. He is malicious, morally bankrupt, and entirely unfit for his station. He is truly the number one menace in the eight wildernesses. My past with him was simply a result of my poor eyesight back then.”

Immortal Lord Xingyao: “Even if I, Kun Fu, were to hang myself from the Matchmaker’s marriage tree, I would never associate with a hypocrite like Huan Xueyi. His sheer pretense is disgusting; looking at him makes me want to vomit.”

The very next month, the two remarried once again at the Matchmaker’s Palace. By now, the immortal officials have long grown used to the sight.
