Is it worth reading?

ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN YES!! I didn't expect anything from this novel at first tbh cause the summary isn't really attention-grabbing but dayuuuum the execution is chef's kiss

This fixed my 50-chapter long attention span

Anyway, on to my review...

PLOT: The premise is that 2 transmigrators are working together to be able to go back to their original world.

At first, they thought that killing Johan, the OG protagonist, was the only way. But then Isaiah told them about the dimensional map, which can take them back to their world. Having 2 transmigrators working together to kill the protagonist is thrilling! Cedar's camp is definitely evil and full of villains but I'm still rooting for them hahaha this is the first time I rooted for the villain camp so hard and wanted them to win and outsmart the protagonist's camp

I also like that not everything goes the way Louis and Cedar want it to be. In fact, most of the time, the tides are against them. There was even one point where everything goes to sh!t and I wondered how the author would try to remedy the chaos he had caused and even wished for plot armor to manifest on Louis, and he returns to a certain point in the past before everything went down (of course, this didn't happen)

NARRATION: The author knows how to write suspenseful scenes, like the scene where Cedar and Louis were so close to getting Johan but ultimately failed cause Johan had escaped or the scene where Cedar's body got possessed by the demon legion commander and Louis fought hard to bring Cedar back. There were also short scenes where it felt like I was reading a secret agent/spy story. Like the scene where Nadia's son acted crazy, grabbed Louis by the collar to secretly hand him a note to contact the Crow if things got out of hand, and Louis tore it into smaller pieces and ate them. I got so hyped cause of that.

CHARACTERS:

  • Louis (MC/bottom) - He is ordinary and sickly. Due to this, he had to set aside his pride and endure countless humiliating scenes and derogatory remarks. It frustrates me sometimes because he's surrounded by OP characters and he doesn't have any transmigrator buffs or privileges, so he's often just baggage. Sometimes, I just want him to awaken his dragon blood or something then show off for once. The only saving grace is that he's at least smart and clever. He has a strong will to live and is quick to adapt. But he also has some naivety to him, which is understandable since he came from a rather peaceful world with no wars, battles, demons, etc. In short, Louis is the type of character that's realistic if ever a normal person transmigrates into a book without a system or secret OP ability.
  • Cedar/Pyo Haejin (ML/top) - He's the one on the cover, which is not common but after reading, it felt more like Cedar is the protagonist rather than Louis... cause to me, Louis felt more like just a narrator, especially during battles (I know it can't be helped since he's not a combatant but still...) Cedar is a green flag. He's gentle to Louis, trusts him, and listens well. Sometimes though, his character feels flat, probably due to the lack of other POVs.
  • Johan (OG protagonist) - He's not normal. He has an obsessive fixation on Louis because he's the last family member he has left. Even though he's aware that Louis betrayed him, he still thinks that Louis was brainwashed. He almost lost it one time when Louis said that he would just die. To Johan, Louis is his lifeline and the last thread that's holding his sanity together.
  • Supporting Characters - Most supporting characters are not fleshed out, but some were, like Cedar's subordinates. But honestly, they're not that memorable.
  • Villains - The main villain is clever, cunning, sly, and manipulative, with every trait a villain must have. I like how she's not third-rate and actually puts Cedar and Louis in a bind whenever she makes her move. It makes the story more thrilling.

BATTLES: In contrast to the occasional suspenseful scenes, the battles are subpar. They're not bad, but I couldn't feel the same excitement and thrill I feel whenever I read the suspenseful scenes. The author doesn't shy away from killing characters, even the supporting ones, so it makes the battles more realistic.

ROMANCE: There's not much romantic scenes tbh. Almost forgot that this was yaoi cause the plot is plotting. But the few romantic scenes so far were fluff and that one kissing scene was for survival. The slow romance tag is real. But I actually like it cause the gradual closeness of Louis and Cedar is realistic. I like their relationship. Cedar is the only person Louis can truly rely on & whom he can trust and vice versa.

SMUT: There's s*xual as$ault & noncon sighs TAGS SHOULD BE UPDATED! Specifically, it started on c90 and escalated quickly on c91. This had me on edge cause the end of c91 was the part where the as$ault was in full swing and I was praying vehemently for Cedar to wake the f*ck up.

To clarify, the one who as$aulted Louis was the demon residing inside Cedar's body. Cedar had no control over his own body and had no memories of what the demon was doing.

This was disappointing. Why do some authors always have to include noncon when it's not even necessary nor bring anything that furthers the plot?!

TRANSLATION: There were occasional uses of incorrect names. Particularly, when talking about Cedar but the name in the chapter is Johan. Anyway, aside from those few mistakes, the translations are great. Thank you for your hardwork <<less

but I am VERY curious about the ML's identity in the real world, is he a gangster? A CEO? like he is super mysterious?!?? I can't wait to find out cause the stuff he is okay with doing.... he stays cool as a cucumber (most of the time) like... he can't be a normal person? LOL

Anyways this is one of my favorites lately, very cool concept/plot and like the other review said Cedar is so main character coded! I enjoy how slow their relationship is developing as well. <<less
