Surviving as a Maid

When I opened my eyes while cooking ramen, I woke up as the Queen’s maid who was treated coldly by the King in the BL novel where the King was gay, the concubine was gay, the knight was gay, the servant was gay, and the librarian was gay.

Will she be able to survive safely after becoming an ordinary maid, Ash, who has no main character buffs?

How will the maid survive!

The novel isn't very good. And if you look at spoilers the end is downright terrible. The there is no misunderstanding in the king treating the queen like tr*sh, he genuinely doesn't care about her. She isn't very important though she isn't the main character and the king isn't a love interest. Only read if you like heartache.

edit.
I guess I wasn't clear and just ended up sounding like a troll or like I didn't even try to read this so here:

Spoiler

While yes most of this novel is about her just surviving as a maid and taking care of a cute baby. But in the end it's all for no reason. It doesn't matter who you like as ML because she just goes back to her own time, and the baby is just a reincarnation of the king if that makes any sense which of course it doesn't. I was using the queen as one of many examples of heart ache in this book.

[collapse]

I do say the queen isn't very important and just cannon fodder anyhow. I also clearly state that the queen and king are not the main leads of this novel... Please don't think I'm trying to troll. I'm just giving my opinion. Please don't take my word for it, try it yourself. <<less

I am being generous with this rating. I'd give it a 0 if I could. The setting is everything I dislike with some BL novels. I am not going to read about women being treated like sh*t by female authors, just because they happen to be in the way of the BL couple. The Queen was not even interested in the King, she was made into a freaking incubator and treated like shit. It makes me sick

Why is the rating so low? Does anyone know why? At the time of my reading, everything seems like a good story, there is even a mystery about the true past of the body in which she is, since she does not have the memories. Anyway, I don't see a strong reason for having such a low rating.

Edit:

Reason for my change of opinion.

Spoiler

The queen had the same ending as in the original plot, I thought that was what would make me sad, but the story got more and more contorted, for example, the baby prince is the son of the sh*t of the concubine, the baby prince is the reincarnation of male concubine, so he will be the king's lover in the future. And MC had a harem, then went back to the real world with two beautiful boys.

[collapse]

I'm not going to be wordy, I got this information from the spoilers so I'm not sure, but this isn't my cup of tea, so I'm going to abandon it. Sorry, it's just my personal opinion. <<less

The book is pretty good. Its a suspense novel about a maid trying to survive in a dangerous place like what the title says. This is a story about an MC who got suddenly sent into a different world and is just trying to get home while solving the palace intrigue. She meets the guys who will help her solve the mystery. This is not a story about a cannon fodder queen who is not even that innocent to begin with and just lost all her hope and just want... more>> to live her life alone and in peace waiting to die. I mean seriously? MC had to save her when she could have saved herself from the explosion. Everyone has a very sad backstory, queen not only you. The least you could have done is not lose hope.

And to be honest, you only read about the queen in the early chapters of the book to set the mood that's just about it. You don't even read much about her except the start and end of the book. She's just part of the setting to see that MC got into a dangerous place where she could die if she mess up and act impudently. This is not a romance about a queen and her cheating king.

The MC here after all is the maid trapped in this world while taking care of a baby prince who is unloved by his parents. If you look at the spoilers, you read about the main character maid not a queen who gave up on life. So for all those dissing on the story who did not read the whole book, you could at least find another book about a story about a queen instead and not hate on this book because that's unfair to the author. <<less

I first read was the manhwa. Few chapters in and everything seems okay. I wanna know more and I went looking for spoilers. And I thanks the heavens for those spoilers! So I can save myself from investing in this story! I truly don't care what will happen with the MC. All I wanna know is what will happen to the Queen!

Spoiler

but the same thing will happen to her! She dies miserably!

I have read the novel countless of times so my review is based on what I read from the book copy and webnovel. I think, I like the book version more because it contains some important parts that you will not see in the webnovel - parts which also contains POV of other characters. The webnovel left out a lot of information so it appears too mysterious with lots of questions about the characters- which didn't get answered in the end of the story (example: Ash salary)
Anyway, my rating would be 8/10 or 4/5
I read it a lot of times so I cannot say it's bad but of course it is not perfect either. I like the start of the series.
It started with mystery about the original characters and even question about the OG Ash.
I love seeing FL's everyday life as a maid and her struggle as a nanny - I actually like that part bcoz it made me feel like, I was part of that story - in that story where the OG MC's doesn't appear much, it's just you and the other side characters living their life without drama. I love that part the most. IMO, I think this series would be better off without romance- although I love her chemistry with Mio and the wholesome relationship she built with Mio and Ciel while taking care of the prince. I think I would prefer it without romance.
Spoiler

near the end of the story, the story started to focus more on romance. And Ash' focus seems to be more on romance instead of just survival. It doesn't help that the ML is not that likeable. What does she really want? To survive? Experience romance? Just plain protection from the ML? Or more?

And I will never understand the love story between her and ML. ML seems to be trying so hard to appear romantic, his dialogs are extremely cheesy.
He love Ithica, then after she passed away he started to miss her and then started to miss the OG Ash, and then went obsessed with her: "Everything I do is for her. All that I have is for her. I am her s*ave" - it's just so annoying to read his dialogs. And that's how he felt for OG Ash, before he met with FL in Ash body.

So, after spending time with this current Ash (FL), he fell for her again. He just kept falling for anyone related to Ithica: Ithica>OGAsh >FL
And FL who seems so hungry for love just accepted that.
He knew she doesn't have her memory, she doesn't remember anything- so instead of telling her information about herself, he decided to keep it - afraid of telling her bcoz apparently she was in love with someone else and he do not want her to remember!! - It feels like he just manipulated her and took advantage of the fact that she remembers nothing so he can keep her. When she told him about what she knew about his family (that he and Caesar are half brothers), he was so scared: "Ash, I thought you lost your memory?" and again, doesn't want to tell her anything until she started to make him talk. Imagine how easy her life will be, if he just told her everything.

And there was even a scene where he told her "I love you. Even if you don't have the face that I miss the most" - so in the end he still miss Ithica the most.
He needs therapy and learn how to move on properly without using anyone as a substitute. He is just using her to fill in his longing for Ithica and FL who seems hungry for love - just fell for it.
Yes, he was kind, yes he was sweet, yes he will do everything for you but are you really okay with that kind of love? Klein would've been more likeable if he had a character development and stick to his love for Ithica or allowed himself to move on properly. After all, he romanticized his love for Ithica so much and the author even stated that Ithica's name was inspired by Ithaca, the homeland of Odysseus and the place where his lover waited for him until he returns from war, see how even her name fits the hero of their Kingdom? (Klein)
So, I honestly think it will be more romantic if Klein just died in the end of the novel, get buried next to her (since that is his dream) and meet with Ithica in the afterlife (instead of Mio dying of old age and met with Ash and then have an open ending)

I think the story would be if MC just fulfilled her role and returned to her world without that love. Near the end of the series, the FL seems empty to me.
The main charm of this series is her wholesome relationship with Ciel, Mio and the prince. They were like a family despite not being blood related. But the author decided to change that trio and that's when it started to lose it charm.

The villains were okay. I honestly love Yurigel as a villain. He didn't appear much but each time he appear, he doesn't look scary nor showing that "I am villain" face and he wasn't even trying hard to look bad. He was just there always looking pretty. Which makes you understand why others like him.
Because in the end, he didn't really hurt anyone or bullied anyone- except of course the Queen and FL. To other people around him, he was kind and caring. In the end, you will realized that yes, he may have bullied the Queen and FL but hey - all he was trying to do is to survive. He just wanted to live. And then, in the end - you get that question- why didn't he harm the FL when he knew from the start that she will ruin his plan? Why did he bully fl? He could of pretended to be nice to her so she will not end up doing anything against him but he did and he didn't stop her despite knowing she was doing things behind his back.
King stayed true to his character. Just like many ML who will do everything for love. The king was a bad husband but he wasn't a bad king, so it explains why his people loved him. Even FL was able to go against him because she trusted the fact that he wasn't a tyrant. Of course, in the end, he also made a lot of mistake and started acting out as a tyrant (much to FL's surprised) but he stayed true to his character "I did it for love" - but even when he loves Yurigel, he would rather have both of them dead if it meants saving his kingdom.
I love how the FL didn't have her bluff. She didn't suddenly turn into a master manipulator. Didn't suddenly turn into genius tactician, she stayed true to the role. She is a nanny. A commoner with no strong family connection. She doesn't even have friends outside of the palace because she basically grew up in seclusion. Doesn't have any charm, money and not even physically strong.
The villain is powerful and know her every move, so how is she gonna survive?
I love that the maids are good with each other. No jealousy, no fighting over power or money. They are humans so they also got jealous of Ash when she suddenly got promotion and have all these guys around her, but still they are happy that one of them is having a good life. I love that community.
Anyway, I love all the characters in this series, especially the maids.
I just wish the romance part wasn't included or didn't end up like that.

'A girl gets isekai-ed into a BL world where all the MC's are gay'. The summary sounds fun and like it would be a great comedy. It could've been great, but... falls short...

There are some cute parts, like the female MC becomes the nanny to the prince, she manages to rope in both the knight and the wizard to the point where they are all sleeping in one room together and raising a child together. All the baby scenes - top notch. All the scenes where all these people who... more>> are not related to each other are doing their best to raise a baby, while taking care of each other - it's super, super sweet. I really wanted to see the Prince grow up and meet his caretakers.

The part where it falls short is character development. The two BL characters are essentially 2D villains. In fact, you could've changed the gender of the 2nd person in the BL couple to a girl villainess, and it would not have made a single difference. It would've actually made more sense, since supposedly the knight and wizard are also gay in canon, and yet they manage to fall for the female MC anyway. They slept in the same bed together and show no signs of actually being gay, or bis**ual, so IDK. The whole world also supposedly accepts this BL couple, but in the story there are no other LGBT pairs - all the ballrooms dancers are male-female paired, the other kingdoms have Kings and Queens, and yet there is no explanation given. The story could've gone deep into LGBT themes and issues and completely missed it. The wizard shows some signs of character development where he gets over his PTSD as he takes care of the baby, and I would've loved to have seen the knight grow as a person, or even the female MC slowly realizing that she loves this baby after all, but there is none of this. The neglected Queen clearly suffers from post-partum depression, and depression overall, and there could've been a great character arc with her realizing that she is loved and she doesn't have to put up with this bullshit, but it never happened. There could've been an arc where the baby realizes his parents don't love him, but that love doesn't need to come from his parents for it to be real, but we also don't see this.

The ending was also unsatisfactory. MC was essentially the baby's replacement mom. She saved the baby, but also abandoned it. It's a love story which does not show any real understanding of love. What should've been either a lighthearted comedy or a story about female empowerment and growth turned into a generic harem. <<less
