“I don’t need your hand, so f**k off, you son of a b***h.”

After tasting a bitter defeat in the Champions League final for the second time in his career, Jerim rejects the hand of the opposing team’s striker and previous teammate in the youth academy, Aaron, causing rumors of discord to swirl again.

In truth, their relationship wasn’t good, so it wasn’t just rumors—it really was discord. Since they were in different leagues anyway, he had never been particularly concerned about it.

“Let’s try to get along again, Jerim.”

…Until a month later, when Aaron came to the same club as him via free transfer*.

It was already infuriating enough to be on the same team with the guy who had humiliated him in the recent final, but to make matters worse, that guy happened to be his ex from way back.

And they had broken up in the most terrible way possible.

*Free transfer when a player’s contract has ended and they move to a new club without paying a transfer fee

I got recommended this novel after finishing Halfline (하프라인). To be honest, I like this better than Halfline.

The ML (Aaron) and MC (Jerim) truly love each other. I like how their character/relationship is not picture-perfect. It doesn't mean I want them to be toxic or abusive, but it's refreshing to read a character that feels realistic. They love to bicker and are not afraid to bite back or be sarcastic when they're fighting. It's a breath of fresh air for me because a lot of MLs who are considered green... more>> flags are usually so perfect in their speech and manner to the point of being a little boring, while Aaron is playful, sarcastic, and also soft. He's not afraid to stand on his ground, and so is Jerim. Their fighting went from unbearable to endearing. I like it so much because we can see how they compromise or figure out their problems. Their relationship also has passion, like I can feel it when reading it.
Spoiler

The smut is good. Aaron is a real lover, he just loves to give Jaerim a bj or eats him out. He also loves using petnames like mi cielo (my sky) which makes me heart melts every time I read it.

[collapse]

Although I feel like the misunderstanding that resulted in their breakup is a bit weak/underwhelming, it's still okay for me.
Spoiler

Turns out Jaerim's former coach from his youth sent a message to Aaron pretending to be Jaerim that he doesn't want to hear Aaron's explanation about his cheating scandal. ML is not cheating, it's his half sister in the photos. Aaron looks like a player, but he is very loyal and sincere. He has never been with anyone since the breakup while Jerim has been with a few women, though his relationships never last long because he's a bit detached.

[collapse]
They both are young, hurt, and angry, so they can't think clearly. I'm just glad Aaron decided to reach out first after all these years because there is still a lot of unfinished business between them.

Spoiler

I also love the difference between their reason for playing football. While Aaron plays because he loves it, Jerim plays because that's the only thing he's good at, and his family, specifically his mother, has given up so much for him, so he needs to succeed for them. He ended up enjoying it for himself at the end, but I think it's just a nice touch. I wish we get a side story where they come out to the public since everyone is shipping them already.

Edit: A new vol was released on Aug 2025! They retired and got married. Everyone found out about the marriage because their friends were rowdy during the party so the neighbour called the cops on them and it became news lol Aaron became a coach and Jaerim became a sport commentator.

[collapse]
Overall, it's a 4.5 for me. I think it's a very good novel and worth reading. <<less
