Then, the tone gradually shifted… When his best friend was mu*dered, the dragon resurrected them! When he went to work over winter break to earn a little money and was outmatched by a dark mage, the dragon saved him! When he fell ill, the dragon nursed him!
Rainer thought he had finally found a piece of driftwood to cling to in this strange world—until he looked into the dragon’s eyes and saw a reflection. Those eyes were beautiful, but the person reflected in them wasn’t him.
It was someone… strikingly similar to himself. Rainer comforted himself: Being a stand-in is better than being beneath his notice.
From then on, he began a desperate campaign to replace the lover in Ercashu’s eyes. But as the tide rises, the waves only drown the breath of those caught in the sea; they do not bring a beautiful view.
As the truth surfaces… The one the dragon truly adored revealed their true face—an identical countenance to his own. He had stolen…
