In the virtual reality RPG [The Frontier] , a player named Salt begins his journey as a beta tester. After completing a hidden quest, he makes a small wish to the God of Abundance, who emerges from the Well of Wishes.

“Please… don’t let the game end…!”

The moment the god nods in response, Salt is s**ked into an endless darkness—only to wake up on the day the open beta test begins.

But.

“I said I wanted to play longer… I didn’t ask to be trapped in here….”

Just as Salt struggles with their unwanted imprisonment, a strange player appears.

[‘[User] Zinon’ has entered.]

“Village chief, your husband is here.”

“……”

“My darling is as beautiful as ever today.”

“……”

“Did you miss me?”

A lunatic player named Zinon, who insists on calling himself Salt’s husband, visits him every day, rambling on as if talking to himself.

Then, one day, a glimmer of hope descends before him—

[Congratulations! You have met the conditions to unlock a hidden quest!]

_____

Tap—

“Darling. Your husband is here.”

“…….”

As Salt slowly lifts his head, their eyes meet. A devilish smile.

“You know, taking something back after giving it away is really cruel.”

“…….”

“But why did you abandon me twice? I almost lost you again. That pisses me off.”

“Uh, um….”

“You won’t ever do that again, right?”

Zinon tilts his head as he asks, closing the distance between them. His face is lit with a dazzling smile.

_____

Top: Woo Jinhon (Zinon)

Current Rank 1 Avenger, Guild Master of the Ranker Guild [Chain] . In reality? A first-year office worker who only shows up to work as a hobby before inheriting his father’s company—a true silver spoon.

Through a friend’s introduction, he starts playing a game and unexpectedly meets his ideal type of a thousand years. The fact that his crush has a male avatar? Completely irrelevant.

For the first time, Jinhon wonders if it’s time to leave his reckless life behind and settle down. The only problem? His soulmate is an NPC.

Hopelessly falling into an impossible love, will Jinhon be able to claim the one he desires?

Bottom: Moon Yiyoon (Salt)

The young village chief of Elche Village, now living his second life as an NPC.

On the day of his high school graduation, Yiyoon stops by a PC café alone and sees a recruitment ad for beta testers of the VR game [The Frontier] .

But the moment he becomes the first player to complete a hidden quest in the closed beta, he finds himself trapped in the game with no way out.

Determined to leave his past life behind and find peace in this new world, he tries to settle down… but peace is nowhere to be found. This world is too dull, and the universe refuses to leave him alone.

And now, he’s entangled with one very persistent man.

Can Yiyoon escape his relentless pursuer?

Read this if…

You’ve ever wondered what goes on in the minds of NPCs in your favorite fantasy games.

This is the first time I wrote a review but I would like to thanked the translator for introducing and translating this novel because I am hooked. I actually went to read the raw novel but was only able to read the r15 version 😔. I would definitely come back to read the translated version to re-read it properly and to read the r18 parts that I missed. (Hopefully the translator would put "R-18" on the chapter title huhu)

I feel like the novel is pretty light hearted where you... more>> won't feel like you're going to get a headache.

Genuinely would recommend to read the raw novel to support the author if you are able to.

About the MC

Spoiler

He is trapped inside a game where he played as a beta player. He was stuck for 2 years I believe. He will return to RL after the ML finished a hidden quest. MC will woke up inside his home in a state of starvation and dehydrated. The company of the game, Rise, send a staff to look after MC when he is still trapped in the game. After MC woke up, he was sent to a hospital in a vvip room which the company pays for. His room is next to ML's room where ML was admitted because of heartbreak after MC disappeared from the game.

About ML

Spoiler

ML is a chaebol who fell in love with a NPC (trapped MC) from a game. He is a nutcase btw, I mean look at how he was behaving in the game lol. When he found MC in rl, he was afraid MC would disappear again (salt in game disappeared after he finished a hidden quest so he is traumatised) so he tries to follow MC back home and actually manage to find MC's house. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO BREAK IN THE HOUSE 😭. With a bloody hand and feet after breaking and stepping on the glass, he immediately went to hug MC.

[collapse]

Any ways I enjoys this type of novel so I'm okay with ML being like this HAHA. Everyone in the novel are silly as it's a comedy novel. Even the MC who have
Spoiler

No sense of danger cause he just let ML hugged him after he break into his house 😅 ML actually get MC to take responsibility of ML's injury.

[collapse]

Something's I don't like about the novel is
Spoiler

there's a bit to many fillers where some information are not that relevant. I mean of course it's to make the novel look longer and well thought but as someone who paid for the chapters, I'm kinda upset when the whole chapter is irrelevant and no progress at all huhu.

So while waiting for the English translation, I browsed through the raw and reached chapter 75. The plot starts out fresh and nice, with the MC being trapped in the game. Later, with the help of the ML, he managed to escape and went through rehab.

Spoiler

The MC and the ML are both hospitalized at the same hospital, one due to malnutrition and one due to a heartbreak *like fr???*

[collapse]

The MC is quite adorable, but his personality is meek and shy. Maybe due to his upbringing
Spoiler

his mother leaves him behind, his alcoholic father dies later, then his chronically ill grandfather also dies, then his grandmother as well

[collapse]
but the MC often found not being able to speak his mind and being pushed around easily. Dunno why, but this personality is quite a common setting in KR novels, maybe it's just their taste???

I personally like the relationship between the MC and his bird, Whitey. What they share is truly lovely and admirable. In the recent chapters I'm reading,
Spoiler

the MC receives a mission with the whole saving the game world troupe with the 72 demons that were released blah blah, and he said that the reason he wanted to proceed with the mission was because that game world was Whitey's world *awwww*

[collapse]

Next is the ML. Oh boy, I don't know where to start LOL. The ML has many, many problems, and up to ch 75, he's still a huge red flag to me. Again, maybe it's just the KR taste, BUT, a big but, does the author need to portray the ML as a huge walking red flag with many loose screws??? Like seriously, setting aside his perviness, he's also a stalker, a self-delusional freak, a trespasser, a manipulator, and a money-get-all rich kid.

*Update to chapter 145:

Spoiler

Whitey is the one who trapped the MC in the first place!!!

[collapse]
Oh wow, I didn't see that coming. The end is right around the corner, and the ML is a little more bearable now. Still, both the MC and ML need to work on their communication skill. They can avoid ridiculous misunderstandings that way.

Personally, I think the imbalance in this relationship is prominent, like the MC literally addresses the ML with -nim while the ML only uses -ssi. If you're familiar with KR culture, you'll know that even though both are the polite ways to address others, -nim is a little bit more formal than -ssi, like -sama and -san in JP. Thus, the MC is constantly plagued by the thought that the ML would abandon him after playing with him, while in truth, nahhhh. <<less

The translation is great, very understandable.

MC Salt's POV is great, I enjoy how the story was told from his point of view as an NPC, how he used the key he obtained during beta testing to unlock a major map in the game, how he interacted with animals in the game.

I'm also glad that even after Salt stopped being an NPC, the author did not remove the NPC elements but allowed Salt to have a mysterious ability to communicate with NPCs. I can't wait to see how this turns out!

Sometimes... more>> the writing is choppy, with some paragraphs from later chapters jumping back in time to previous situations which confuses me when reading sometimes, but that's not a major issue.

What I dislike is the male lead, Zinon, Woo Jinhon for the reasons: he's a pe*verted, delusional, guilt tripping psychopath.

Spoiler

Pe*verted: he's 29, MC is 22, he met 22 y/o MC when MC had a small body, and spouts pe*verted words to MC when he was an npc. Thinks of kissing and possessing a vulnerable MC.

Delusional: he met MC a couple of times and treats himself as mc's husband, in the literally sense, having a severe sense of possessiveness and repelling anyone who is close to MC.

Psycopath: he broke into mc's home, forcing the door open by bashing mc's window.

Guilt tripper: he got injured from breaking into mc's house, and still had the cheek to say that it was mc's fault for making him misunderstand, even if the cause was his own delusions and possessive nature.

I dislike this kind of male lead, extremely, and I have no idea what is so appealing about him, or if he will even get better with time. His behaviour upsets me so much, with his lack of respect towards fellow players, friends, and people in general. I don't even know if he will treat our cute Salt with respect. Currently, I feel that Salt is seen as merely a possession.

[collapse]

The adventure in this story is enjoyable, but the male lead has so many red flags that are glossed over in the synopsis, I don't understand why korean authors keep writing such men into existence. <<less

OK I'm mad. 🤬😤 The first half of the novel was definitely interesting and fun to read but my review is mainly abt the ending. This god-awful ending.🫥

If you wanna know other stuff just look at the other reviews.
Spoiler

The author build all this suspense and mystery to the game for nothing. It's never revealed why the NPC's in the game treat Salt diff, the gods, what happened to darkness after the virus, absolutely no explanation for the book besides it being op and summoning material, the egg being totally forgotten (I hypothezise it was for Whitey to rebirth into or smth cause I'm pretty sure darkness itself won't dissappear so easily), and more.🙄😮‍💨

It's like the author got tired and decided lets end it here. I'm so annoyed. This had so much potential but it got wasted.😑

Also the side stories while might be a joy for other ppl who wanted to know more abt the guild, added almost no purpose to the story besides a marriage proposal and telling the guild what happened to Salt fr. The side stories were just abt then going on that group vacation and having fun and I just skimed it bc it was so filler and annoying.😒

I have so many questions but they're just left unanswered.😵‍💫

The ending rlly ruined this novel for me.😩😡

[collapse]

Highkey my fault for wasting my sleeping time reading this.🥱🫩
